Colchester Korban Page Description

Colchester Korban is a Christian based charity providing supported housing for 16-25 year olds who have found themselves in crisis. We aim to offer young people a home, support and guidance as they prepare themselves for independence. Colchester Korban was started as a churches' response to youth homelessness.

Nearly half of people living in supported accommodation are between 16-24. Young people have been hit hard by reductions to youth services and the welfare reform and assistance with accommodation is needed now more than ever.

Homelessness among young people is often a hidden issue and many people facing homelessness are still in education, training or work. The rising pressure that comes from being faced with life on the streets can have a devastating effect on all areas of life.

Colchester Korban has been providing young people with a place of care and safety for a number of years. We continue to see youth homelessness as an issue that urgently needs addressing.

Check out this amazing story of this motivated and determined teenager. šŸ¤©šŸ„³
Young people face so much when they have nowhere to call home and Korban works hard to provide stability, care and support to all our residents. Last year we had two of them go to university and another one has just been accepted this year...!
Don't forget you can support us if you want via the website.

We've seen the effects that waiting FIVE WEEKS for Universal Credit to arrive can have on our residents. We've also used Acts 435 to help raise funds for vital items for our residents before. They do amazing work and we heartily agree with the #fiveweekstolong campaign they and so many other charity organisations are supporting. #universalcredit #sortitout

Check out this report by homeless charity St Mungo's on the massive reduction in homeless spending and the effects on services...
"The research finds that almost Ā£1bn less was spent on single homelessness in 2017/18 compared to 2008/9, a fall of over 50 per cent."
"There is also less certainty and a serious risk to the sustainability of services."
... "The impact has been a reduction in the number of services, despite the growing demand, as well as forcing councils and service providers to focus their work supporting people in crisis, rather than on ā€œupstreamā€ prevention services to stop homelessness happening in the first place."
The need for grassroots, independently funded projects like Korban has never been greater. You can help us continue our work by clicking here: www.korban.org.uk/online-donations
