My husband and a good friend got to Cottons in Camden on Saturday after 10pm and we were able to have some delicious food and drink and also enjoyed the friendly vibe. The only negative thing is I wish it was a bit bigger, it does get very crowded, but still loved it!

User

Me and the girl friend popped in on the way to the station. We popped in by chance to have a drink after liking the look from outside. We both had a couple of cocktails each which were excellent quality. Very welcoming and friendly staff in there as well. Will definitely go again.

User

I went there with a group of friends I had an open mind. The staff were very courteous, my food was not very hot and it was no problem for it to be heated up.

The food was very tasty and everyone enjoyed their meal. I had taken cake for one of our friends birthday and we were given plates and forks and allowed to eat the cake there. My first visit was positive and I would definitely go again.

User

Had a lovely dinner celebrating my aunt’s birthday. The food was amazing and the service was fantastic. Especially our waiter who carried my son all the way to my car while it was snowing, in the freezing cold with no coat on. Please thank him and tell him he was amazing I would highly recommend this place.

User

Great place to relax and enjoy a few cocktails. Atmosphere is buzzing and everyone is on a good vibe, possibly because of the mature crowd that this place attracts. Food was very tasty and the portion sizes were just right! Will definitely be returning to try out the Jerk Pork.

User

Great place for a real caribbean fix, food was amazing, Chef Colin Browns fantastic menu added to the evening being extra special, everyone enjoyed the vibes will definitely be going back

Walking in, first impressions of the vibe were good. The space is decorated really nicely, in a relaxed decor which makes you feel at home. Staff were friendly and helpful when asked questions, and although being relatively new, they were knowledgeable about the drinks and foods on offer.

I'll run through the foods I had. The first was a rasta salad which had mango, pineapple, pomegranate, chia seeds and half an avocado. These are all really nice ingredients, but I would switch the leaves they were served on with something less bitter. This could be a winner.

The Ebony Wings were big and tender, with fall off the bone meat and some grilled pineapples on the side. The sauce was perfectly sweet yet spicy, and I couldn't get enough!

The jerk pork ribs stole the show for me as the sauce was sweet, while the meat was hot and spicy, which worked well. They were cooked more than you might be used to, which makes they dryer and hard, but as a bbq style, I loved them. Again, fall off the bone meat, with a bone so well marinated you might want to eat it. The crispy fried plantain on the side were a perfect crunchy compliment.

We also got to try three fritters: chick pea, black eyed bean and callaloo. Fritters in general are not my thing, but the flavours were nice and the toasted coconut chutney on the side stole the show for me, but didn't help with the fritter's dry texture. I would love a salad covered in something like that coconut mix- it was really good. We also had some salt fish fritters which I much preferred as they had a nicer flavour, and came with some sweet sauce to balance their dry texture.

My favourite dish of the night was the crayfish and lobster mac and cheese. It was the best Caribbean macaroni I have eaten, which can usually be pretty dry. This one was saucy, cheesy and delicious. The crayfish and lobster flavour was very subtle, and the crumbed topping was perfect.

The cocktails stole the show in beauty. The first of which was their signature Rum Punch, which was strong and punchy -the perfect way to start the night. They don't mess around with their drinks here, you're in for a treat. The second one I had was the Raas Berry explosion, which I ordered because the waitress told me it was the nicest looking, and she was right! Crushed ice with Appleton special, pureed berries, garnished with three raspberries, mint and confectionery sugar. It was my favourite of the night!

User

Very friendly and attentive staff, although a bit tight on space in the upstairs seating area. Meal was good, having tried the vegetarian curry. Water was offered without being to be asked for and when i needed to leave to catch a show, the waiter sorted out my bill promptly. There was a built in service charge of 12.5% which wasn't declared before paying. Overall a good experience, and would take a friend there in the future (Camden branch)

User

The food was good and service was prompt. I had the salt fish fritters, jerk platter and banana fritters. But the service was exceptional there was a large group of us celebrating a birthday the manager and staff were welcoming, friendly and accommodating.

User

Loved the place. Great cocktails served by friendly, cheerful, bar staff. The food looked great although we didn’t have time to eat on this occasion. I will definitely be going back though. Background upbeat music added to the atmosphere and the sunshine was streaming through the open front windows.

User

It was my first experience at this property with the famous Executive Chef Collin Brown at the helm. The restaurant is cozy and feels more like your in the comfort of a Caribbean home than a restaurant. The atmosphere was lively as we were shown to our table upstairs for six. The cocktails took a while but are worth the wait and had us geared up for our starters. All dishes were well presented and great portions sizes. A few of my guest made it to the deserts and even Chef Colin Brown paid us a visit to top off the evening. Friendly staff but could do with maybe a front of house manager to coordinate things a bit more smoother and guest service control. However definitely will be back to the Rum Shacks Tony Jazz

User

Had a party on the 21st of July for 14 of us. The whole process of getting everyone's pre-orders was tedious but no fault of Cottons' as it is understood why they have this in place- well it was explicitly explained to me by the manager, Roberto.

The service was excellent as they waited for all of us to arrive to serve the starters which meant a speech could be said and a toast raised including each one of us, which was appreciated.

Their cocktails/mocktails are delish! Their portion sizes abundant for the prices, and the food is excellent with the meats so tender, the jerk at just the right heat level and their soursop cheesecake has left me still dreaming of it. The only killer is their 12.5% service charge added on top of the bill which some of the party found hard to manage (not all working).

However, the service was very accomodating and personal so in my mind was worth it.

I would recommend here, and we plan to revisit soon. Me, just to pop in for a cock/mocktail now and then too.

User

Went with some friends and ordered drinks and some starters to share. Staff were lovely and friendly and the food was good. Regarding the 12.5% service charge, when I directly asked the staff if they received any of it, they were uncomfortable and eventually admitted that they did not. Not impressed Cottons

User

The ambience, service and staff were brilliant. The food was average, as a vegan there was only one option available. As a restaurant serving Caribbean food, it is traditional to serve most dishes with rice and Peas etc, instead they had to be purchased separately. The desserts were abismal...luckily the birthday cake served us well as a quick dessert substitute.

User

I'm usually not difficult regarding food but except the plantain which was good, the rest - I had the mutton and the chocolate mousse - wasn't tasty. A lot of fat in the meat which was too dry as well. And the mousse had a very fade taste too. Cocktails were good though.

User

I heard about Cottons from friend's saying it was good.

It was my first time attending on 4th March with my partner too. I looked online to view the menu and everything looked tasty. So when we arrived only to be told it was only a Sunday Brunch menu we was a bit disappointed because there is nothing on Cotton's menu to suggest there is a Sunday Brunch menu.

Anyways we choose our cocktails first which was very nice and didn't take long to make.

We choose our food but took quite a while before it came out. Cause we was so hungry we just ate it quick. Both of our food was quite warm but cause we was tight on time we didn't bother to say anything.

I finished my meal before my partner and was thinking I'm sure I'm missing something from my course. I looked at the menu and saw I was missing yorkshire pudding. I told the waitress and she when back to the kitchen. My partner then finished her meal and said she is still quite hungry. So she looked at the menu and then noticed she was missing rice and peas with plantain. I mean the Sunday Brunch isn't a massive menu and it wasn't busy.

I told the same waitress that my partner we missing food as well. She came back and said she will bring the rice and peas with plantain. she also gave his a complimentary dessert each for what had happened.

We ordered our desserts. When she came back with the desserts my partner ordered a fruit cake but was given a chocolate cake. I mean this is just shambles.

As I said before tight on time so we didn't bother to say anything but as we was leaving a couple behind us had just sat down. The couple was ordering from the main menu not the Sunday menu.

So for overall very disappointed for our first time.

Had reservations for 9.30pm wasn't seen for 10mins, then was told to follow a random waiter who was delivering drinks to another table at the time! We followed all the way to their table - this is when i asked where our table was to which he said oh you can sit anywhere i told you. I am on crutches so walking around unnecessarily has me annoyed. From there on it didn't get any better! Waited 40mins to order, had to constantly ask for things we ordered - when the starter arrived (30mins after ordering) one element of the dish was bland while the other was over seasoned!

The main course of sea bream, king prawn curry arrived and again rice was bland and the curry was just pepper and nothing else.

Again waiting for someone to notice was a joke!

The manager (who was really nice) sorted all my issues, but whoever that waiter was needs to be fired- he had a bad attitude when confronted with the problems at hand and dealt with them incorrectly.

I will not be returning to any of their branches!

Standards have dropped dramatically ( I 1st went 12yrs ago)

Its a shame as there aren't many great looking authentic Caribbean restaurants around

Try Yeah Man in Bournemouth you wont be disappointed

User

Poor service. Rude staff enforced 12.5% service charge to be called fussy when food pre ordered days in advance isn't available. Uneven portion size of the same meal. And even forgot desert we had ordered. Nope. Not coming back (Shoreditch Branch)

And not only that served caramel ice cream (not on menu) but was in fact peanut ice cream. And when we complained about the fact it is dangerous to give people peanut ice cream when they are unaware. Could kill someone they completely dismissed it and didn't see the issue.

Very dangerous will not eat there again. At no point does the menu even say they have peanut ice cream
