We had a wonderful week-end, the room was spotless, furniture, bed, bathroom all very good and well presented. The staff were polite and very efficient, we were very impressed, the whole atmosphere was very vibrant as we sat down to have excellent wine and food. Thank you Crowne Plaza, you did us proud.

User

My husband and I came for a 2 night spa break this week. The hotel was amazing. The Beds were so comfy. The view from our room was lovely. Staff in the restaurant were very attentive and polite. Reception staff were really helpful. We will definitely be back. Great package and value for money. Thank you!

User

Had a fabulous time, staff were amazing, food was excellent, beauty treatments were wonderful and very well executed with lovely, knowledgeable therapists. Setting is wonderful, the guests were all enjoying themselves and friendly. Lovely atmosphere. Nothing was too much trouble. Chef even did a Happy Birthday in chocolate for my mum's birthday. Second time visiting and will definitely be back. Well done Five Lakes, we feel fabulous.

User

Stayed here on a spa break with friends. Couldn't fault the spa, hotel and staff but the evening meal wasn't great. Had to wait for quite some time for our main meal then it was cold when we did get it. Meal said that it had salad with it but this was missing . This for us spoilt our evening an did were were going out after dinner this would of been spoilt as there was no evening left.

User

Lovely overnight break. Very relaxing. Stayed in village room with patio area. Dinner and breakfast very good. Room very dirty with large stains on the carpet and curtains. Bathroom had not been cleaned properly. Other than the room really enjoyed our stay for our anniversary

User

Went for a relaxing day unfortunately the steam room had no steam the jacuzzi no bubbles! The whole place needs a good clean and updating. However the massage was lovely and afternoon tea great especially my gluten free one we had a nice time despite the issues such a shame as has potential to be amazing.

User

Lovely but not as good as previous years, lunch that comes with overnight spa package has changed to afternoon tea which is just average food and you can only have one tea or coffee before having to pay for more. Rooms clean although graffiti in the shower and our room was issued to another guest who potentially had a key to our room. At dinner we were given a complimentary bottle of prosecco and then after it was poured told theyā€™d made a mistake and they tried to take it away eventually agreeing they couldnā€™t use it for another guest since it had been left in our possession! I did however have one of the best full body massages whilst there

User

Just returned from an overnight stay with dinner and breakfast. Was nice but not amazing. We stayed in a village room which had everything you needed and was clean and comfortable. BIG down fall however was no air con in the village rooms. It was 30Ā° yesterday and we were very hot all night. They did provide a fan but I couldnā€™t see anywhere on the booking that said there was no air con in the rooms. Dinner was nice, good selection at breakfast. Pool area definitely needs updating and the jacuzzi doesnā€™t bubble! For Ā£209 for the stay however I do feel that I didnā€™t quite get my monies worth.

User

I had a lovely day catching up with my friend, treatments and Afternoon Tea were lovely and staff welcoming but the Spa area, Changing Rooms and Showers are in need of some TLC you are a 4 star hotel so you need to reflect this in your Spa or you will lose out to others in the area whoā€™s facilities are much nicer. Also the layout is a bit haphazard, you need one area for just the Spa, I personally donā€™t feel comfortable walking through by guest rooms/reception in my dressing gown to get to lunch it should all be housed in the ā€œSpaā€ area. I canā€™t comment on the rooms as we did not stay but just some funds to be injected in the Spa area and it would be lovely.

User

At first impression good but afterwards it went downhill. Given a room without an AC for 4 of us and temperature at 34 Degrees and was only provided a fan and told to open the windows. It took a lot of persuasion to get the manager to look at alternatives after the check in clerk was adamant there is no other option. Loads of wasp which stung children whIch was distressing and there was no aftercare provided. It seems the staff were overwhelmed with the volume of guest and could not cope despite everyone making advance bookings which should have provided them with opportunity to prepare adequately.

Not a great experience for a first time guest but the event I attended at the venue made up the bad experience.

User

We got what we payed for. A Ā£59 deal including a 50min treatment & afternoon tea which were lovely and the spa staff really nice and helpful.

But only 2 star rating for me. One shower in the spa area! U have to go up to book the spa, down to use the pool, back up to have yr tea, back down to use a shower ļæ½ no little finishing touches that Iā€™ve had from previous spas. Eg tiny shampoo, conditioner body wash and a clean dressing area!

Steam room kept breaking down, the drinking water was warm, no fresh towels, changing area was filthy and stank of wee and thereā€™s no staff about. lifeguard sat staring at his phone and the jacuzzi/but not really a jacuzzi didnā€™t do much.

However the pool was warm and lovely.

And the massage was well worth what I payed.

Nice enough day but wouldnā€™t return.

Oh and we didnā€™t get our prosecco ļæ½

User

Probably our last stay at Five Lakes. Travelling with children and felt very unwelcome. New restrictions on visiting the pool during the day -only at tea-time or early morning which made it very inconvenient. Grubby changing area and no toiletries provided. Dinner very average and again, kids barely catered for with 2 of the 4 meal options unavailable - note: not all kids want chips! Arrived for breakfast to be told find your own table - none of which were cleared or set for service which you can't blame on being busy. Then to top it off when checking out - the DBB rate I booked for 4 people in a family room only covered 2 adults and I had to pay for the kids meals separately. I'm sure this is hidden away in your t&C's, but should be made VERY clear at time of booking -which it wasn't.

Time for a renovation - this isn't the premium hotel it once was.

User

Nothing lazy about this Sunday deal, more like a kids break, children bombing in and out of the pool, screaming and shouting, no direction given from staff as where to go and what facilities were on offer, room was BOILING, air con not working, over charged at check out, treated like we were on a budget deal, more like a cattle market.

Definitely wasnā€™t a relaxing spa weekend break ļæ½

User

I have stayed here with friends 5 times, the latest time was a big disappointment to be honest, based on previous visits. We stayed this time for a friends 40th, lazy Sunday package. Things in the package had slightly changed since my previous stays. Only one treatment included, previously always had 2 treatments included. Lunch has now changed to afternoon tea...which to be honest was fine as breakfast was lovely and filling but it was as if afternoon tea was a very new thing as no one seemed to know what they were doing & had run out of sandwiches etc so had to wait for more to be made, even though u have to book in advance so surely theyā€™d know how many ā€˜afternoon teasā€™ would be required? We had rooms down the side of the spa which was fine until the bin men came at 6am Monday morning, Hardly relaxing night away when u get woken by all that noise!! The whole hotel was freezing the entire duration of our stay. You can no longer go to breakfast in your dressing gowns which I found bizarre esp with the lazy Sunday package as this now meant u had to get dressed to go to breakfast then back to your rooms to get changed back into your dressing gowns and something more relaxing for your treatments & then changed again to leave after your afternoon tea?!? Standards have definitely slipped since my previous visits and I will be looking at other spas to visit in future rather than returning here.

User

Booked an overnight stay with spa treatments with my mum. First impressions are very good however once out of reception the place needed some updating. We'd booked for afternoon tea which was very pleasant, but the whole atmosphere of the place was overall not very friendly there were 2 staff members that were friendly but everyone else seemed as though they wished they were somewhere else. We were due to book in at 3pm into our room, but after much arguing with the receptionist didn't actually get our key card till about 3:30pm which we were not very happy about. Once in the room the bathroom was a questionable colour (orange) the room itself was nice, comfy bed and pillows but found our mugs to be dirty and our kettle had not been descaled in a long time. We then got dressed and headed to the pool area, why oh why do they make the floors around the pool so slippery twice me and mum almost fell over. We didn't have much time to enjoy the pool and sauna area as we were due our spa treatments and 17:30pm. The spa treatment itself was very relaxing and the girls were very nice. We then got ready for dinner, we got given a standard menu with sorry to put it this way but a crap selection of food (We had Ā£24.95 each to spend on dinner) we decided to go for the other menu and expensive menu (seriously Ā£28 for a sirloin steak) and the desert bloody hell Ā£6 and it was the size of a mince pie!! After dinner we decided to bed up to our room, only to find there was a party happening below our room and out in the terrace! Mid night it finally settled down. In the morning we went for breakfast which again was okay there was a nice selection but the full English breakfast had obviously been cooked and then just left so the sauages were rock hard, but the fresh fruit and ham selection was very nice. We had booked a zumba class which was very good the instructor was friendly and kept you motivated, she had asked if we could come back but it would be a long travel for a 1 hour class but thanked her for a great class. Overall for the price we paid we defiantly didn't get our monies worth and we will not be returning.

User

Been to this hotel/ spa a few times now. Just returned but this has been the most disappointing visit. The pool was so cold so unable to swim, the changing rooms had an awful muggy smell, pool area full of water so can easily slip no supporting floor mats, had two yellow hoses putting cold water into the pool!! jacuzzi non existent no bubbles, so felt like no choice but to opt for sauna/ steam room but this had peopleā€™s plasters (several) on the floor so hadnā€™t been checked ( luckily wore flip flops ). I felt cold sitting in the spa area and could hear others saying the same. Upon arrival at spa bar no one greeted for the afternoon tea left waiting. Afternoon tea on arrival was very basic with crusts left on/ dry scones and no drink refills, best part was the buffet evening meal/ breakfast. Had the room next to the spa bar which was noisy at times & not relaxing! (141)

Left my comments at reception on checkout and considering a regular/returning customer I left feeling disappointed.

User

This place is very tired - reception is lovely then beyond that is old and worn. The carpet is all coming up with patches of threadbare! We went on a spa day - treatments were fine but the pool area is way away and you have to walk through loads of communal areas with your dressings gowns on to get to it! The pool changing rooms are old fashioned small dirty and dingy! Still have the hairdryers with the pipes - like council swimming baths! Nowhere to plug own appliances in - poolside is disappointing with mismatch loungers and dirty cushions. Poolside and the showers were disgusting and after seeing this there is no way I would venture into the sauna! We mostly spent the day sitting on a balcony by the treatment area - luckily it was sunny and warm - the balcony had weeds growing out of the patio - plant pots with weeds in them and birds poo on the rattan furniture! Bamboo on The wall that was falling off. Trying to get a glass of wine was a joke and then when we did it was Ā£15 for two glasses! We asked to speak to a manager in a private room and were taken into a therapy room -with the light on you could see how dirty it was - disgusting brown finger marks around and on the light switch and moths and flys in the lights which we pointed out to the manager! She said the areas I spoke about were clean until I showed her the photos and asked her if she would shower in there - to which she said no! We were offered a glass of cheap prosecco as an apology which we turned down as the point was the place was filthy and not fit to be called a spa day! We did get a reduction in the end on our bill but I wouldnā€™t recommend this place to anyone and have the photos to prove it!

Terrible!!!!

I came here for my birthday on my own to relax two weeks ago but have since arrived back from a 2 week holiday hence the delay in reviewing!

I arrived a couple of minutes late I apologised as I had come up from London and it was my birthday and getting out of the house took longer than expected and had taken longer than expected I was greeted by a stone faced therapist not even a happy birthday on reception being a therapist myself it was very shocking!

I said I needed to go to the toilet she said your already late that will eat into your treatment time!!! Shocking! I totally agree that I was late but thatā€™s so unprofessional and rude I said well I need to pee as I have been in the car all morning so it will have to be a shorter session I couldnā€™t believe my ears!

The masaage was basic and I just couldnā€™t relax after that!

I then was left in a dressing gown not knowing where to go so I walked back down to reception to ask where the hell or what was I actually doing? I was shown to the afternoon tea where there were a table of about 10 women complaining loudly about not having tea not very relaxing! I then had my afternoon tea cold hard scone with hard sandwiches!

I then moved onto the pool area it definitely needs a refurbishment! I couldnā€™t get into the jacuzzi as it was full I waited a while and left.

I had driven 2 hours and absolutely hated it the vibe was just miserable and I was upset and left by 12.30.

It was the worst Ā£59 + 40 Petrol to get there that I have spent!

User

Just came back from a spa day here and for the price we paid for three of us (Ā£240 altogether) we are really not happy with it.

Treatments were okay but were only half hour (if that) not 40 minutes as advertised.

The afternoon tea was shockingly bad.

First of all there was 3 of us and they gave us the same amount for 2 people.

The sandwiches were warm and crusty as if they had been sitting there for ages on the side. Cakes were small and very few.

The complimentary tea and coffee that used to be all day is now only served until 11am!

We would have complained there but there was no one around.

Would like it if someone could get in contact about this please.

Lovely overnight break. Very relaxing. Stayed in village room with patio area. Dinner and breakfast very good. Room very dirty with large stains on the carpet and curtains. Bathroom had not been cleaned properly. Other than the room really enjoyed our stay for our anniversary
