About Cuba Solidarity Campaign

CSC campaigns for the end of the illegal US blockade of Cuba and the return of the illegally US occupied Guantanamo Bay. Tweet us @CubaSolidarity

Cuba Solidarity Campaign Description

For over 55 years Cuba has been subjected to an illegal blockade and sustained interference in its internal affairs by the United States. U. S. hostility towards Cuba continues despite 25 UN General Assembly resolutions – passed with overwhelming majorities – demanding the total, immediate and unconditional lifting of the U. S. blockade.

CSC calls for the end of the U. S. blockade of Cuba, the return of the US occupied territory of Guantanamo Bay, and respect for Cuba's right to national self-determination.

Manchester Cine Cuba presents: '638 Ways to Kill Castro' Monday 24 February, 7:30pm
Explores the relationship between the US and Cuba told through the numerous assassination plots, by the people committing them and those protecting him. A thought provoking film which says as much about America today as it does about their past.

The Trump administration further tightens the blockade of Cuba and attempts to strangle the islands economy by threatening those that do business with it.
The CEO of Spanish hotel chain Melia has been informed by the State Department that he is barred from entering the US because of his company’s business interests in Cuba.
Meliá Hotels International S.A. said in a statement it believes more than 50 other companies have received similar notifications, but didn’t name any.
... Meliá said the notification was linked to provisions of the 1996 Helms-Burton Act, which among other things allows Americans to sue companies deemed to be “trafficking” in property confiscated by Cuba’s government after the country’s 1959 revolution.

The Guardian reports on attempts by the Trump administration to sabotage and smear Cuba's humanitarian health programmes. You can also read an interview with medical volunteer Dr Vigil Fonseca who was in the UK in June 2019 to talk about this work on Cuban international brigades, and the money he was offered to leave his posting here https://cuba-solidarity.org.uk/…/fighti ng-for-the-right-to-…

US pressure is behind the coup government of Bolivia’s decision to break diplomatic relations says Cuba.
“From the very inception of the coup, officials from the US administration have been putting pressure on Bolivia to impose a deterioration of relations with Cuba, persecute Cuban doctors, harass diplomats and cancel the medical cooperation that benefited the Bolivian people. As was appropriately denounced, some of these repressive and violent operations against the Cuban health staff involved the direct participation of US “diplomatic” officials.
It s not by chance that the facts described here coincide with a brutal and politically motivated US campaign against Cuba’s international medical cooperation that is being offered in tens of countries, which has become a symbol of international solidarity.”

“My farewell message is to keep supporting Cuba. The Cuban people have been fighting for so long and so hard. Now we are living in such difficult times with the aggressiveness of the Trump administration. Every day we wake up with more bad news from the US. But we are not afraid. The Cuban people deserve to be supported.
"I know that you know it, but I still ask you to keep supporting the Cuban people and the Cuban Revolution. And of course, keep supporting the Cuba Solidarity Campaign; because the more you can support the Campaign, the more you are supporting Cuba. And finally, my farewell message is one of love for the British people and comradeship. Thank you.”

“A wealthy nation is not one in which there are a few rich men but rather one in which every citizen has a small share of that wealth”
Today marks the anniversary of the birth of Cuban National hero José Martí in 1853. Marti was a poet, writer, philosopher and political theorist who died fighting for independence from Spain in 1895. His role in the liberation of his country and his writing on Cuban and Latin American independence have made him a national hero and his image and monuments to him can be found across the island.

“Cuba has more doctors working in the developing world than all of the G-7 countries combined,” Kirk said. “Those calling Cuban doctors to defect and countries to end cooperation miss the point, which is that thousands of poor people have greatly benefited from it and would be negatively impacted without it.”
