๐ Handbag dangers ๐
Here is a reminder of the items lurking in our handbags that could be dangerous in the wrong hands.
๐ผ Medication - Ibuprofen is pink, sugar coated and look very similar to pink Smarties.
... ๐ผ Batteries - Corrosive and if swallowed very dangerous.
๐ผ Keys - My keys have a window cutter attachment that could be extremely sharp and dangerous in little hands. Smaller keys can be a choking hazard.
๐ผ Pens - Even if they have a hole in the top they are still dangerous. The slightly chewy plastic may feel soothing for your teething toy to bite down on, but they pose a huge choking risk.
๐ผ Perfume - Most fragrance products contain alcohol; some contain up to 95%. Alcohol can cause serious effects in children. They can also cause skin irritation.
๐ผ E cigarettes- The liquid used in these types of cigarettes can be poisonous if this is swallowed.
๐ผ Coins - Loose coins can be swallowed, pose a choking hazard or completely block a childโs airway.
๐ผ Plastic bags- Nappy bags, doggy poo bags or general plastic bags for shopping can be swallowed and pose a suffocation risk.

Hospitals report that the number of children burned by hair straighteners has doubled in the last 10 years. Crawling babies, toddlers and young children are the most likely to be burned. The burns can be nasty and deep.
Hair straighteners can reach temperatures of 235 degrees celsius - thats as hot as an iron!
Most hair straighteners come with a heat-resistant pouch so you can store them safely while they cool down.
... What to do if your child suffers a hair straightener burn?
๐ผCool the burn for at least 10 minutes, the longer the better. A running shower is idea to cover larger burns. You can also control the temperature of the water a lot easier than a tap.
๐ผRemove any clothing or jewellery. Do not remove anything that has melted onto the skin or is firmly stuck to the wound.
๐ผCall for help - 999, 111 or your local GP for advice.
๐ผDo not touch the burn or burst any blisters as this can cause infection.
๐ผOnce cooled loosely cover the burn with cling film or a clean non-fluffy dressing (as long as the burn is not on the head or face).

True Story! ๐๐ผ
๐ป๐ฝ๐๐
๐ผThis is something many parents are still unaware of and I know how desperately we donโt want to wake our sleeping babies, but when babies are in their infant carrier their breathing and hearts rates increase and their oxygens levels lower.
๐ผ If youโre using a travel system and going shopping, then stop regularly for a coffee of even just a cuddle
๐ผ If youโre going on a longer car journey, take a break for at least 15 minutes taking them out of their seat or have an adult si...tting in the back with them to keep an ๐ on them
๐ผ When you get home with your fast asleep baby, take them out and lay them flat somewhere

Very informative course. Angela was very helpful and friendly throughout. Thank you ๏ฟฝ
Learnt so much this evening, highly recommend. Thank you Angela.
Had a fun morning learning first aid with Angela. Very informative for grandparents/babysitters (so much has changed since my days!). Feel up-to-date and confident now. Can recommend her courses to all.
Great training session. Good to update knowledge. Great trainer. Thanks.
Great training session, discussed lots of common scenarios as well as more serious emergencies from dealing with minor bumps and grazes to Bee Stings and CPR. The Practicals were good exercises, from applying dressings and bandages to CPR on dummy Babies and young Children . I would recommend this training to all.
