Thinking of our Young Performer DEXTER REILLY this week in rehearsals for a verbatim piece of theatre called Other Guys produced by the wonderful Shireen Mula
The subject matter of the piece is masculinity and violence against women. The script does not in any way demonise or paint all men as perpetrators - instead it welcomes men into a conversation that historically, they've been excluded from and gives their voices a larger platform (the stage). In interviews we discuss ...things like what it means to be a man today, masculinity, emotions, mental health, women, attitudes towards women and girls, metoo, aggression and violence against women. All the interviews are audio recorded and then transcribed. All interviewees are anonymous. The range of men Shireen's interviewed is diverse and includes: scientists, social workers, policemen, lawyers, transmen, drag queens, wrestlers, soldiers, youth workers, men that have been in prison, men who have perpetrated violence and men who have been victims of violence.
