A while back we collaborated with The Leith Agency to develop Tottenham Hotspur's legendary typeface. Today, it’s a pleasure to see it still centre stage at the club’s brand new stadium at White Hart Lane.

Through effective refinement, and by introducing features to aid distinction, Anavon Ski's wordmark is much more versatile, designed to work both horizontally in most media and vertically when embossed onto skis.

Behind the scenes of our wordmark refinement for Anavon Ski AG, a producer of tailor-made skis based in the Swiss mountains. We worked closely with Swiss branding agency Cascadas communication to refine the wordmark's abstract shapes and curves, enhancing distinction, and improving legibility in just a few days.
We began by refining the original wordmark, adjusting the spacing, letter shapes and proportions to introduce optical consistency. We then experimented with the style to improve character distinction, helping the brand to communicate its name and personality across every touchpoint.

We’re an international team at Dalton Maag, with quite a few of our designers from Austria. Working with Stadt Wien allowed them to take design inspiration from a city they love, to create a distinctive typeface that’s typically Viennese.

Vienna’s new typeface, named Wiener Melange in tribute to the classic Viennese coffee, has round shapes and open counters for an approachable and warm expression, delivering excellent legibility at any size. Certain characters within the fonts have alternative designs, for exclusive use in wordmarks.

We were delighted to work with Saffron Brand Consultants, saintstephens and Instant, Design GmbH to create a font family that reflects the spirit of Vienna, and informs the new Stadt Wien wordmark, giving the city a single, unified tone of voice. Vienna’s historic shield sits at the heart of the identity, and directly inspired the typeface’s design.

A lovely use of Dalton Maag's #Objektiv typeface for the Scotch Whisky Academy designed by Touch, a Scottish design studio. Objektiv’s clean sans serif design treats the brand’s considerable heritage in a contemporary style: https://www.thetouchagency.co.uk/pro…/s cotch-whisky-academy/
Objektiv is now available as a variable font: https://www.daltonmaag.com/library/objekt iv

For variable fonts, as with static fonts, we carefully consider the construction of symbols such as $ to maintain legibility at all sizes. As Mokoko VF moves through the weight range, the central bar automatically switches from one long vertical stroke to two smaller bars. This keeps the symbol balanced and legible at all sizes, with no input or effort from the user.

Big thanks to the team at Civilization for hosting us to discuss variable fonts last week in Seattle. We took the group through a hands-on workshop, explaining the basic drawing principles of digital type design to help people understand how variable fonts are constructed.
