Desperate times call for desperate measures in battle against childhood obesity? https://www.washingtonpost.com/…/9d956f 48-851e-11e8-8553-a3…

I enjoy reading and try to read one book per week. This was recommended to me by one of my clients. The All-Blacks have a culture of 'no excuses', one which I'd like to instil into my clients. I'm really looking forward to learning tips from the best sports team in the world. #allblacks #learnfromthebest #reading #coaching #fitness #Marylebone

'All or nothing' when it comes to training? Try and 'walk' towards your fitness goals rather than 'sprint' towards them for longer and more sustainable results. #fitness #training #coach #marylebone #fitnesstips

Looking to maintain your training program whilst on holiday? Now is the time to book accommodation with access to a good gym. Ensure that the facility pays more than just lip service to its equipment and email or call your hotel before booking and ask EXACTLY what equipment it has and whether it's in good working order. Unfortunately some hotels have gym facilities just to gain stars and don't maintain its equipment. A good facility should have a good range of dumbbells, kettle bells and cardiovascular kit. Happy holidays! #training #exercise #workout #holidays

I always get asked 'what do I need to do to get fit?' According to the World Health Organisation in order to improve cardiovascular and muscular fitness, adults aged between 18-64 need to do at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic exercise or 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic exercise each week. Bouts of at least 10 minutes is advisable. Furthermore, the WHO suggest muscle strengthening exercises should involve major muscle groups and be performed 2 or more days a week.
Now all you need to do work out your 'why', 'how' and 'when' you get fit ...

According to the American College of Sports Medicine (2012) performing kettlebell swings (KS) for 35 seconds followed by a 25 seconds rest for 10 minutes could provide sufficient exercise stress to improve aerobic capacity. However, oxygen consumption, METS, pulmonary ventilation and calorie expenditure were all higher in a 10-minutes treadmill run when compared to the 10-minute KS protocol. Always think about your training goal before actually training! #training #goals #objectives #specificity

I'm off to live in Hawaii ... or Minnesota! Whether we smoke, what and how much we eat, whether we drink and/or take drugs are major contributing factors.

Stress is often seen as a bad thing. However, exercise should be a good type of stress (eustress) if prescribed sensibly and effectively. When training new clients I almost always assume they have a 'training age' of zero. So volume, intensity and load are sub maximal to begin with. A steady progression will result in exercise being a good stressor rather than being ANOTHER bad type of stress for someone.

A National Weight Control study found that a highly successful group of people who lost at least 27 kilos and kept this weight off for 5 or more years, displayed the following consistencies:
1. They weighed themselves once a week. 2. They were all physically active. 3. They monitored how much and what they ate.... 4. They all kept some kind of weight chart. 5. They all ate a healthy breakfast.

Suffering from poor shoulder stability or general shoulder pain? These 2 exercises from my '21 Days to Perfect Posture' ebook could help. Poor shoulder stability or chronic shoulder pain is often a result of weak rotator cuff muscles. These isometric exercises target those specific muscles. If problems persist, see a physiotherapist or osteopath.
