After launching our coaching hero campaign, we are excited to reveal our club winner Sophie Bloomfield PT nominated by Jackie Welsh
“I joined last year as a 50th birthday present. On joining I told the membership team I wouldnt be using the gym part but he said to look around it anyway . On entering the gym he introduced me to Sophie Bloomfield and I instantly liked her so thought I had nothing to loose by doing my four induction sessions with her . Well over a... year later I have taken inches off and reduced my metabolic age to 36. This is all to Sophie, I would not be using the gym if it wasnt for her . For a lady in her 20s she has a really mature head on her shoulders and remains professional whilst being super caring and friendly . I believe she could inspire any gym phobics into loving working out with real confidence . She has also done wonders for my knee having torn the cartilage twice shes got it to where I can exercise without support bandages and walking my dogs again . I could speak forever about the positive life changing influences this lady has made to my health . She is amazing xx “

WIMBLEDON BALLOT ūüéĺ
OPT IN FOR 2019 ūüó≥
As you may be aware from this year the LTA are requiring existing British Tennis members (BTM’s) to opt-in to the Wimbledon ticket ballot in order to be eligible to be included in our clubs annual ticket ballot.
... David Lloyd Colchester is an affiliated club to the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) and if you have a Vantage or Platinum membership you are entitled to a FREE Lite British Tennis Membership or alternatively you can pay £20 per year to be a Team British Tennis Membership. The number of opted-in members at each club will determine how many pairs of Wimbledon tickets are allocated to the club. A low level of members opted in is likely to mean that we will be allocated less pairs of tickets. Opting-in does not oblige you to buy a ticket if you are successful in the ballot but it will hopefully increase the number of tickets that are allocated to the club for those members that do want to be included in the ballot.
Please can we ask all current BTM members to login to their BTM account and check the opt-in box.
The deadline for opting in has been extended to 22rd February, 2019.
If you have not yet joined as a BTM you can do so at www.lta.org.uk

Have your children tried our new Mini Drama class on our DL Kids programme? Judging by this snapshot it looks lots of fun.. We’re just not sure who’s enjoying it most!?

It‚Äôs with great pride that we have this week wished good luck and goodbye to our leader and chief Jon Kohn who has moved on to bigger things within the world of David Lloyd. The dream that once was ‚ÄúDavid Lloyd Colchester‚ÄĚ would‚Äôve never realised its true potential without the hard work, passion to succeed and drive of this man! From the early stages of planning, to the emotional pep talk he gave the team moments before opening the doors to the public for the first time to the present day where he still walks around the club with pride and undoubted high standards we just want to thank you Jon! ūüĎŹūüŹľ

ūüö® Inspiring Junior Member Alertūüö®
Alastair basically loves being outside. His hero is a man called Alastair Humphries who is an adventurer that has done things such as cycling round the world and walking from one side of India to another.
When Alastair Humphries was 9 he completed the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge, a 25 mile round trip climbing approx 1600m in 24 hours.
... Our Alastair wants to emulate his hero, but rather than wait until he’s 9, he will be doing it on May 4th this year when he will still only be 7 years old.
Alistair is doing it for The Tom Bowdidge Youth Cancer Foundation which is a local charity that helps children and young adults with cancer.

Huge Congratulations to our King of Sunday Morning GritCardio, BodyCombat and BodyPump Zac Idun who will be swapping his gym attire for something a little smarter when he visits The Palace later this year following his nomination for an OBE in The Queens New Year Honours List for his services with the Metropolitan Police's Counter Terrorism Command, where Zac led the family liaison response for victims following the Westminster and London Bridge attacks.
“Acting Detective Se...rgeant Zac Idun from the Metropolitan Police's Counter Terrorism Command, who led the family liaison response for victims following the Westminster and London Bridge attacks told BBC News he was "flabbergasted" when he found out he had been nominated for an OBE.
"The letter dropped through my letter box, and I was at home and opened it," he said.
"I chased after the postman and said: 'Look, you put this through my door, who's put you up to this?'"
Zac Idun was described as having shaped family liaison "both nationally and internationally‚ÄĚ
Act Det Sgt Idun is a leading expert in family liaison and deployed officers to the suspects' families as well as those of the victims. “

We (my wife,3yo, 5yo) joined in February after I was convinced by my wife who wanted somewhere that she could work out while the kids were entertained. Im not a gym goer or a tennis player, so was not keen and didn't think we would get value from the facilities. I was completely wrong.

The kids club is excellent with a range of classes and activities and my kids love the kids club team. The gym is never full and always has a relaxed feel with a range of classes and instructors available to help. The food menu is great with a good range of food and drinks. There are regular club events and the staff are always asking for feedback on how to make things better. I use the adults only business hub with wifi for meetings, emails, conference calls as well doing paperwork.

Other reviews talk of the not being able to get a seat, this has never been the case for our family. The club is rarely full during the week although I can't speak for the evenings as I'm at home putting the kids to bed. There have been a number times that larger children have been in the soft play when they shouldn't have been but this seems to have improved in the past few months, but agree it could be policed better.

The spa facilities are great and the time I visit its always quiet.

I'm amazed that nobody mentions the tennis in the reviews. I had never picked up a racket until June and since then I have been given superb tuition from Alex, Amiee, Dan and Marcus. Always available to give 5 minutes of their time to help bring on your game. There is never a hard sell on lessons or courses and there is always available courts. My eldest Callum has now started tennis too and he is loving it as much as me. The tennis team are great so if you haven't tried it, get involved. If you use the facilities then DL is great value with my 20+ visits a month i'm averaging around £4 per visit.

User

The facilities are fantastic and lots of things to do for both adults and kids. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. I agree with the comments about children, but as a family with 3 children ourselves, we just find it works as there are lots of things for the children to do, which then gives time for the adults to relax or attend classes. Both the indoor and outdoor pools are a good size and the gym is great with lots of different top of the range equipment, which you'd expect for the price. I would agree it is expensive but having paid similar prices in the past in London, I just think you get a lot for your money. If you want that bit of luxury and to get fit, this is a great place to achieve your goals.

User

Spent a day on a guest pass and must say I enjoyed it immensely. The facilities are superb, the atmosphere is great. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I love the fact that it's family friendly, it's lovely to see families together enjoying themselves. I took part in a sh,bam class and made use of the pool etc. Fantastic.

User

I think the club is fantastic. Booking courts for tennis and classes for the kids is simple. I'm surprised by how few people use the pools. Staff are always friendly, polite and take the time to speak to you. Changing rooms are very clean. Best thing we ever did was joining.

User

I have been a member for 1 week

I joint with my 14 year old daughter and 11 year old son. I love how we can have family time that's healthy. The nice family vibe there is exactly the reason I joint.

Facilities are amazing staff are lovely and helpful.

User

I absolutely love DL colchester. To be honest it's changed our lifestyle and my life too being a new Mum off two when I joined.. it's not been easy & the crèche is genius, my baby girl enjoys her time there as does my son with other DL kids clubs. He also now does weekly tennis and swimming lessons. I do as many of my favourite classes as I can, they all work so well the only comment I would make is I would like to see a GRIT class be on at a time that's not early morning or tea time.. maybe that runs along side crèche but that's a personal opinion. The other classes I LOVE! All trainers are so friendly and helpful, always happy and polite..

It makes me so sad to hear the negative reviews based on the amount of 'children' there are in the club. The MAIN and really Only reason we joined DL is because of the fact it's a 'family' club. And we all go together to enjoy different activities, swim and it's also made us new friends and reconnected us with old ones! Yes it can be hectic sometimes on a Saturday morning but hey, it's family time and all children are enjoying the facilities that yes we pay a lot of money for (which by the way we get total value out of what we pay and we make the most of it)

I also go alone one maybe two evenings a week and never found children to be an issue, in fact it's nice for me to go and relax without mine and interact differntly with the club..

please don't be negative, DL is what it is, a 'family' club. The spa is 18+ and If I wanted to just use a 'gym' and relax I'd use any gym or have kept the one I already had in my garage at home..... my honest comments are maybe family's should be forced more to use the family changing rooms.. and please look into a toilet system upstairs but again personal!

Thank you David LLOYD colchester for making me and family welcome and I can't wait to see what the future holds for you! ÔŅĹÔŅĹ

Despite my disappointment at not being on the new logo Colchester is my new favourite David Lloyd Club & I might even be in the new advert ūüėć

User

David Lloyd really is more than a gym. I always feel welcome and the classes are fantastic. The instructors and coaches are energetic and knowledgeable and all the staff are friendly and helpful. Amazing atmosphere and worth every penny :)

User

Very impressed with the facilities the club has to offer- gym equipment is fantastic, the pool area always clean and spa is lovely. My only criticism is the timings and availability for the kids clubs. The organised classes for 3-4 year olds seem to always be 4.30pm or 5.30pm which seems very late for a pre school age child. Classes for this age group are fairly limited and spaces fill up so quickly that unless I set a reminder, they are usually full by the end of the day they are released. Hoped to spend more time here during our days off work but seem to be pushed to book very late classes at one of the busiest times of day. Otherwise 5*...

User

I'm glad we joined this gym - I think the classes are brilliant and the instructors are very knowledgable. The downside is I can never get a place in the classes I want and I'm finding that very frustrating. I should perhaps do what I see others doing wjichbis just join in without booking. The spa is brilliant and I do really enjoy the gym and all the equipment. My biggest bug is the fact that when I was booked into a class and had to cancel my place I was given a warning because I cancelled under the 2 hour mark before the class - you get 3 strikes and then you aren't allowed to book in for a class for 7 days. On 2 of the occasions I had only just joined and had not read that this was policy and therefore hadn't realised - the 3rd time I had a choice either not go or cancel my place as I had a totally unexpected issue owing to train problems (hubsand had to get to work somehow) so I was told no classes for a week - personally I totally get that I'm complaining about not being able to get into classes and complaining about this policy - but what are you to do in such circumstances. I'm paying a lot each month for my membership and I can't book in classes for a whole week - this has really put me off. They say you are given 3 chances but that really isn't allowing for real life especially as I tend to do the 9am classes and can't really tell what life will throw at me at 7am. Other than that issue I do like the place and find the cafe staff brilliant as well.

User

I visited as a guest Tuesday and spend the whole day and night there! Amazing.... the gym was excellent and the staff everywhere was amazing and friendly. User

I enjoy the gym, sauna and staff are very pleasant. The food is good but expensive maybe a cheaper option would be good, or a free meal a month has we do pay a lot of money already.

User

Have been a member since they opened and enjoy the club very much. That said, I was appalled when they informed me, it would cost me £15 to bring my 11 month old nephew to the swimming pool. An activity which would have cost only £2 at my previous gym. I understand you want to keep it exclusive but this hardly encourages the "family" vibe which is allegedly part of the company ethos. At 11 months old he's not going to be in a class, or using the equipment, I think it's ridiculous. Anyway we're heading off to leisure world now.

User

Friendly and great facilities. At times however, noisy children do get a bit overwhelming and I've heard it said on more than one occasion, that the children's play area in the restaurant/lounge should have been separate from adults trying to relax and enjoy a coffee or a meal. This is the only failing but can impact on the enjoyment of those without children.

User

Fantastic club. Great staff, with a good family environment. Me my partner and my daughter enjoy our time spent here. I done my first synergy 360 hiit class this morning, which is highly recommended if you enjoy group workouts. Really pushed my limits. The whole club is very clean. The DL kids club is really good and staff seem really nice, which makes me feel more than comfortable to leave my daughter with them while I workout. Eating here is a must the food is really tasty, well cooked. But at the end of the day if your paying a premium price you expect premium service. The only thing I can fault in the whole club is that the children's classes are very limited.

User

Was fantastic at first but unfortunately they care more about money than the care of their clients , no space to sit down as they've packed it to the rafters , parents constantly leaving their children unsupervised and therefore hurting my children , they are even left unsupervised in the pool and myself and my children on several occasions have had either a hand in our faces splashing water , balls full pelt in the face or pushed by children much too big for the children's pool . I've complained several times to no avail it seems all the staff are 'perfect ' and they won't take any criticism , and am currently trying to leave which is really difficult , can never speak to the manager he's always busy and the lady we have spoken to has basically implied these things haven't happened .

It is an awful amount of money to pay each month to have problem after problem , your children getting harmed every time they go yet nothing is done ( it is our fault ) , the other day my three year old got squashed up against the wall by a 9/10 year old who wouldn't let him go even though he was crying , his Mum was sat there with head phones on ignoring everything( I have told one of the managers this yet it was dismissed )

User

I can‚Äôt believe ‚ÄėDavid Lloyd Colchester‚Äô are selling ‚ÄėKind‚Äô bars, they are American crap and you should be selling ‚ÄėEat Natural Protein bars‚Äô much better and made in Essex ÔŅĹ

User

Can‚Äôt wait for my membership to end(having to give 3 months notice)soon. Was debating to stay, but after having to justify why I wanted to leave and being asked ‚ÄúI really don‚Äôt see why you don‚Äôt have 30 minutes to come down a day to work out‚ÄĚ made my mind up. They have no interest in what the members want and this comes from the bad management where I feel that John does what suits him not the members. Constantly wanting to get money off you, complete rip off. Looking forward to my membership ending.

User

Be careful and wary of this club. If David Lloyd the company see fit, they will simply take more money from your bank account. Very poor customer service from admin.

Be careful and wary of this club. If David Lloyd the company see fit, they will simply take more money from your bank account. Very poor customer service from admin.

I have been a member for 1 week

I joint with my 14 year old daughter and 11 year old son. I love how we can have family time that's healthy. The nice family vibe there is exactly the reason I joint.

Facilities are amazing staff are lovely and helpful.

I visited as a guest Tuesday and spend the whole day and night there! Amazing.... the gym was excellent and the staff everywhere was amazing and friendly. Bit disappointed with the swimming pool as it was cold and I expected it to be better but still ok. The food was to die for!! It was the best and the lady that served me called angel was so friendly and kind. She made great conversation with me when she served me on the till and cleaned my table for me before I sat down as there was some crumbs on the table but overall excellent I will be joining soon I think

The only thing I can not fault is Jo and the children's clubs which have been fantastic , jo has always been there for any problems I have had regarding my children and I would give her and DL kids a five star .
