About Dementia Adventure

Dementia Adventure specialises in adventures which connect people living with dementia to nature and the outdoors, taking positive risks.

Dementia Adventure Description

Dementia Adventure is a registered charity that is dedicated to supporting people to live well with dementia and have a sense of adventure in their lives. We believe in the benefits to be gained from regular, active engagement with the natural world.

We are committed to growing a charity that will enable people living with dementia and their carers to continue to live full, satisfying lives through access to the outdoors and nature. By raising funds we are able to assist in underwriting the cost of the supported holidays and short breaks so that more people, particularly those with limited means, can access the benefits. We are very pleased to have the support of players of People's Postcode Lottery.

Through our training and consultancy services we work with other organisations to help equip them with the evidence, practical skills and confidence to give people greater choices and live better with dementia.

Our work is grounded in research and we collaborate with academic institutions and the public sector to advance and contribute to the growing evidence-base for being physically active within nature and the benefits it brings to people living with dementia

Our growing team of staff and volunteers enable us to deliver adventures, training and bespoke projects all over the UK and beyond.

Isle of Wight Godshill Park Farm 5 days, Monday to Friday
Dates: 25-29 March 2019, £600 | 8-12 April 2019, £620 |13-17 May 2019, £640 | 24-28 June 2019, £670 | 8-12 July 2019, £670
... The Isle of Wight is a favourite holiday destination for many people. Situated just off England’s South Coast and less than two hours from London via the Isle of Wight Ferry, its mild climate, beautiful scenery and seaside makes it an ideal destination for a relaxing break.
Godshill Park Farm is located just outside Godshill village within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Godshill itself has pretty thatched cottages, a 14th Century church and tea gardens, pubs and little shops. A network of footpaths and bridleways lead from our accommodation across the downs if you feel like walking. We have chosen this place for its tranquility and wonderful hosts, Kathy and Mark.
New for this year, Kathy and Mark have invested in a whole new building, a barn adapted to include 4 double/twin en-suite rooms with ramp/level access and fantastic views out over the farm. There is an airy balcony and a light living /dining space for us all to enjoy!
We make packed lunches for picnics out and about each day, with our breakfasts and evening meals being served family style at home.
Our holidays get booked up fast, to avoid disappointment PLEASE BOOK EARLY. Deposits are £100. Full payment is required two months before the holiday. To discuss contact us on 01245 237 548 or info@dementiaadventure.co.uk

The Location: This year we have changed the accommodation and the emphasis in our Devon holiday, although we are delighted to report that our partnership with Sallie Rutledge and her wonderful team from The Mede will continue. We have tweaked the itinerary to make it more active and suitable for those with good mobility. There are gorgeous coastal walks right from the doorstep, water sports and a wealth of local attractions. We will visit gardens and Heritage towns well lov...ed by generations of holidaymakers, like Sidmouth and Budleigh Salterton, take a boat trip on the River Exe and have the opportunity to see the beautiful Devon Countryside. Enjoy the exhilaration of this beautiful part of the South Devon Coast.
This holiday would now be particularly suitable for people with good mobility. Please call us to discuss whether this would be a good break for you.
Your Accommodation: This break is run in partnership with Sallie Rutledge of The Mede.
The Beach House is full of character, quirky and luxurious with a pool and hot tub. There is easy access to the beach and the coastal footpath. There are a couple of steps to the front door, and along with the huge reception rooms downstairs where it will always be possible to find a quiet corner. Upstairs there are plenty of double and twin bedrooms, all spacious with en-suite bathrooms and some with sea views.

The Location We have chosen to base our Cornish Adventure in the Bodmin area due to its proximity to a number of attractions. The Eden Project, The Lost Gardens of Heligan and Charlestown, with its shipwreck centre and picturesque harbour, not to mention a wealth of beautiful beaches.
There are wonderful walks along cliff-top paths and the coastline is dotted with pretty coves and charming old fishing ports such as Mevagissey. Also close by are the Cornish moorlands for a bla...st of fresh air and old tin-mine memorabilia.
Your Accommodation For this holiday we have chosen the large and well-designed accommodation at Tor View Centre, a working farm set a way back from the coast up towards the moors. This is an upside down house, with accessible bedrooms on the lower floor and a stair-lift to reach the common areas upstairs, we can welcome people with some mobility needs on this break.

The Simplyhealth Great North Run is the world's biggest half marathon, with more than 57,000 runners pounding the streets of Newcastle.
Starting in Newcastle upon Tyne the 13.1 mile route takes runners through the city centre towards the River Tyne where thousands of people will cross over the iconic Tyne Bridge, where if you're lucky, you might get a glimpse of the Red Arrows passing overhead.
From there runners will travel through Gateshead while being entertained by Bands ...on the Run. The route, lined by thousands of supporters, leads runners to South Shields where at the top of Prince Edward Road the view of the sea is one of the most welcoming sights along the whole course.
From that point there is just over a mile to go and the crowds get louder as runners make their way down the final straight towards the finish line."
Are you ready for the challenge in 2019?
