About Department Of Twin Research, London Uk (Dtr)
TwinsUK, based at the Department of Twin Research and Genetic Epidemiology, is the UK's largest adult twin registry. We have over 13, 000 twin volunteers who help us study the genetic and environmental factors behind age-related traits and diseases.

See below for an opportunity for identical twins based in Bristol to take part in a project for an interactive science museum ⬇️
Speaking of twin hotspots.....there are now 9 sets of twins in a nursery in Stockport!

A twin study of a different kind. What's it like to be treated for breast cancer in the UK compared with the US? Nancy and Nora both developed breast cancer - and both had radically different experiences. So grateful for our NHS.

Conversation UK editor Gemma Ware took part in our PREDICT study with her identical twin sister Zoe. Listen to the podcast below to find out more about the study and their experience, and to hear from Professor Tim Spector. Thank you for taking part in PREDICT!

Which style of pancakes do you prefer? Is it the same as your twin? Love reacts for crepe-style ones or Like reacts for American-style stacks!
We're working to understand how our digestive systems interact with our gut bacteria, and how that affects our health. Read more about the first findings of our study ExHiBITT, and a huge THANK YOU to all of our twins who took part.

Identical twins Ana Fernanda and Ana Luisa Bernal cross an international border twice a day, every day - just to get to school. Listen to their story below.

Our very own Professor Frances Williams was invited to Clarence House for a celebration of leading women in arthritis research. If you've ever given us samples for an arthritis study, Professor Williams is the brain behind it all.

A small town in Tamil Nadu is home to hundreds of pairs of twins - and no one really knows why! There are a couple of known twin "hotspots" around the world and it would be really interesting to find out why that is.

Interesting associations found between the Mediterranean diet, gut bacteria and better health outcomes in people aged 65-79. This is an area we're also interested in, and our current nutrition study PREDICT will help us work out which foods are best for each of us.

Immensely powerful testimony from a twin who survived the Nazis' evil experiments on twins. Please be aware that the video contains graphic descriptions that you may find distressing.

Check out this letter from Aldous Huxley from 1936, sent in by one of our twins. He appears to be describing altering his microbiome to improve his health. Warning: do not read over breakfast/lunch (and do not try this at home!)
Happy half-price chocolate day!
If you have to eat chocolate, choose dark chocolate - your gut bacteria's favourite.

Did you catch us on BBC Radio Berkshire this week? They had a segment on twins on Monday morning, featuring TwinsUK's Professor Frances Williams.
The twin segment starts at about 9.20 minutes and Professor Frances Williams is on at 18.55 - 24.30 minutes and discusses identical twins, twin telepathy and non-identical twins. Listen in below!
