We loved it. The staff were so friendly. It was our wedding Anniversary and they made it very special for us. The place has lots of character about it and we will certainly be giving it a good review.

User

Having read all the previous reviews I have to say that their comments have been noted! I booked in yesterday with my daughter and I was pleasantly surprised . The room is large with comfortable beds . It is clean and has tea making facilities, iron and board and a very relaxing corner with two comfortable chairs. The receptionist on checking in was very pleasant and helpful. Last night we went for a swim and this morning sampled their Beauty Treatments. The staff in the Spa were exceptionally nice.

There is an upgrading process going on, but I believe it will be ‘absolutely fabulous’ on completion. Personally the Majestic wins hands down on the brand named hotels.

User

Absolutely brilliant hotel I have stayed here a few times now and decided to go for my hen party with family. All 21 of us had a great time the food was amazing, staff so friendly and helpful, and the rooms where spot on. I will definitely be coming back!! Thank you so much

User

having read some reviews we were a bit dubious abut staying here, but we were pleasantly surprised..... room spacious and clean.( paid extra for a garden and town view ). we opted for the 3 course dinner, service was very good, friendly staff, food looked and tasted great,, no lengthy waits between courses... breakfast, no queue at 8.30, plenty of choice, .... overall we enjoyed our stay, only criticism was the £8 over night car parking fee.... a lovely splendid Victorian building

User

This hotel will be fantastic when it is refurbished! It has a wonderful location ten minutes from the Montpellier district and Betty’s tea room. We had a nice refurbished room and the vast dining room is splendid.

User

Stayed with groupon bed, breakfast and dinner. There was scaffolding up on the hotel but we were not effected by it. The facilities were good, staff friendly and food delicious.

However there was building work going on in the room above our twin room so although we had a late check out we left an hour sooner than we would have liked due to the noise

User

Although the hotel looked a bit tired and is in the middle of refurbishment we still found it charming and was happy with our room etc . The staff are lovely and ready to help with your needs . The meal we had on the evening was so good I could have eaten it all again ( even though I was full ) . Everybodys tastes were catered for when it came to breakfast and I enjoyed a full English . Spent some time relaxing in the pool and the jakuzzi /sauna too . All in all a great stay , would love to come back when the refurbishment has finished .

User

There is work in process which meant some disruption to the car park and gardens. However the deluxe room I booked was really nice, the hotel still displays some of it past splendour and the breakfast was ok. I think that charging £8 for parking in the hotel car park when you are in resident is uncalled for and just not appropriate when you have already paid to stay!

User

The hotel is nice but the package we had was expensive for what we got... breakfast was ok and evening meal not bad but service was poor...bar staff not knowing red wine is not in the fridge and blunt girl showing us to our table for evening meal....would visit again if cheaper.

User

Lovely hotel, beautiful rooms. Fab location. Breakfast was delicious. Down falls were - swimming pool too cold, lockers were not working properly, no hot water on the shower/bath - just luke warm which meant I had no chance to bathe in it! Also £8 is a tad too steep for parking especially when your a resident.

User

Lovely hotel , granted it is in the process of beign renovated but it has to be done some time !! The staff couldn’t be more helpful nothing seems to be a problem for them, we checked in yesterday and didn’t catch the name of the lad on reception but he certainly went out of his way to make us feel welcome, he even phoned us in the room allocated room 437 to see if it was ok !!

User

The room was almost empty, no decor and a pair of mismatched chairs by a tatty old table. The wardrobe door was jammed shut, wall paper was ripped and the room smelt of damp.

The bathroom was old and untidy, the radiator towel rail looked filthy, the bath panel was a bit of old painted hardboard with several screws to hold it up and the light cover over the basin was hanging off.

The toilet was mouldy, the skirting board was falling off and the toilet waste was leaking.

The breakfast was barely warm and badly organised.

Every room/area we went in had pealing wallpaper, worn carpets, damp and general bad maintenance - there was a large silver duct tape repair on the main stairs carpet!

And then there is the £8 parking charge even though we paid top rates to stay the night.

There is no was this hotel is 4*, it looks nice from the outside and in the brochure, but in reality it's very tatty and dirty once you get through the door. Our room looked nothing like what we were lead to think we were paying for, it felt more like a student bedsit with no pictures on the walls or any other cosy/welcoming features.

Next time we'll stay in the Premier Inn next door, at least you know what you're getting for your money there.

User

Stopped at weekend and was not impressed. Car park full and half closed so had to wait to get a space and cost me 8quid for the pleasure renovations were happening but was not informed. Booked a premium double but when I entered the room it was small and basic and not like the pictures, so I complained and was told they don't do premium only deluxe but that's not what is on website, got moved to 2nd room it was better but still not what I paid for and a horrible view of the room and scaffold. Food was nice so complaints there hence 2star. On to top it of no hot water for shower in morning.

User

Stayed here last night. The only reason for giving this hotel 2* is for the food which was lovely. Where do I start with the rest ... the room ... falsely advertised on your website! The images were definitely NOT what we got. Our room (223) was a tatty, run down room that wasn't worth £40 per night let alone £139! The service in the restaurant was appalling! An hour before our starter came - soup and melon! Then 35 mins wait for the main course. Then another 45 mins wait for dessert. No butter with the bread roll. No spoon for the soup. Next morning...queued to get into breakfast despite the room been far from full. And having staff walking round with shirt tails hanging out too - just no! Not a good representation for your business. All in the details. Majestic your hotel is certainly not! More like Faulty Towers I'm afraid and we will therefore definitely not be coming back!

User

Stayed Friday night, very strange hotel indeed. The decor was appalling and the cleaning was somewhat to be desired, found a pair of used tights left on one of the seats, so clearly hadn’t been cleaned although there was a random note left by the house keeping staff!!!

Also security is very poor, upon checking in we went to our room but the key wouldn’t work so I left my pal with the cases only when I arrived back she had been let in...

needless to say a return visit will not be happening... couldn’t be bothered to complain as couldn’t leave quick enough.

Why write on here? Well you asked the question......... I just answered.

My daughter has just had a overnight stay here. I was very disappointed. At first coming into the grounds were met it’s lots of building works , my first thought, I hope we weren’t staying above here . But guess what we had the room straight above that looks on car park and all the building works. But am sure the building works won’t start till at least 9am . But 7am it all started . So wide awake I went to make a cup of tea , NO tea or coffee facilities in room. I totally understand that hotels have to be upgraded at some point but to be allocated a room that’s above all the works is a very disappointing, surely a hotel that size would of had a vacant room elsewhere . All though the room was very clean it was very dated . Certainly not like the pictures on there website. The staff are very friendly and helpful Where the hotel is situated is great for the centre of Harrogate. Would I stay here again , well am not sure to be honest . Think I prefer a premier inn or travel lodge

User

After reading reviews I telephoned the hotel as I had booked for my mum 80th birthday as a special treat. The review had stated that the building work and scaffolding was a nightmare. I asked receptionist if this was the case and was assured there was hardly any scaffolding around...total lie! On arrival only 2 receptionists and huge queue to book in. On booking in and AFTER THEY get you to sign in the form saying you have a car in THEIR car park you are informed there is an £8 per day charge! When I questioned this was informed it was in small print on booking!! I noticed quite a few guests had no idea about this. So not impressed so far and only been here 1/2 hour. Let's see what the next 48 hours hold.

User

We a currently staying at the hotel at the minute and have to say what a disappointment it has been so far. The hotel itself seems as though its falling to pieces and hasn't had a lick of paint for a number of years.

We went for our evening meal last night and the menu was terrible to say the least. We waited over 30 mins for a bowl of soup to arrive and then 30 mins for each course after. The food was basic and had very little taste. There was hardly any staff and the ones in duty certainly didn't have any urgency about them. The same can be said for breakfast this morning.

We came down to use the facilities which were advertised very well on the Internet. What a let down. The gym is very poor and the sauna is in the individual changing rooms which isn't mentioned anywhere. So we aren't bothering with the facilities on site and are having to go off site and spend money to use others elsewhere.

For the price we paid we really expected so much more. I think there is a lot of false advertising for this hotel and certainly is not value for money. Considering my wife and I rarely get a weekend away we feel such disappointment and have wasted our money.

My husband and I went as a gift for Christmas. When we walked into the hotel we found rubbish on the floor in the entrance. Staff walked by it and didn’t pick it up. Once we finally got served and given our room, we found it to be a good size however, the bed sheets were terribly stained and looked like they had been there awhile, the tiles were hanging off in the bathroom and grout missing from the tiles on the floor. When we had gone to ask for another room we were told that this other room was the only one available. On inspection of the second room, we walked in to the smell of sick! We turned it down and just asked for the bed sheets to be changed. When we came back to our room. The bed was pulled out still and the bed side cabinet in the middle of the floor 😡. On the way to the restaurant you could see strips of wall paper hanging off the wall and again staff with no customer service skills. As a vegetarian I was offered one meal choice. When I asked if there was any other choice they told me no. The spa or anything wasn’t pointed out to us. Very disappointed 😔 would not recommend!
