Downham Celebrates

Downham Celebrates a Non-profit Organisation built in 2002 to provide festivals and events to the families and people of the community and surrounding areas, a small group of volunteers plan each festival with the aims of eliminating the cost for everyone

The festival is an opportunity for everyone in the community to come together and have some fun. We find that the feedback from those who participate is very positive; with many people coming back year on year; people really enjoy the day. Local organisations and small businesses book to come along to offer and promote what they are doing and residents get to know what is happening for them in the community. Local residents with disabilities are able to access the majority of activities.

We provide a fun filled day which in the main is free so that our target audience have the opportunity to do something together. The fact that we are able to offer many free activities for children and young people in particular helps local families; many of whom are below the national poverty level.

We do attract a range of older people; some come just to enjoy the atmosphere and meet other people. Other older people used the day to come and see the Surrey Dock Farm which really does give people the opportunity to talk to each other.
