‚ÄúI'm revolting. According to his mum. According to everyone.‚ÄĚ
We are proud to be hosting the Important play FABRIC, about domestic abuse, and its related workshops at Draper Hall. Leah is smart, kind, recently promoted, and finally seems to ‚Äėhave it all‚Äô when she gets to be the Mrs to Mr Ben Cavendish. But she finds herself revolting; revolting against a society and a judicial system that just won‚Äôt listen. Fabric gives voice to one woman‚Äôs experience of sexual violence and t...rauma. Through Leah we bear witness to how grey areas seep into everyday life, and how a million small things ‚Äď some seemingly harmless ‚Äď can result in one terrible act. The play is part of a larger initiative to support Solace Women‚Äôs Aid. After last year’s sold out concert, an ensemble from the world-renowned Chineke! Orchestra returns to Draper Hall to perform music by black British composer Samuel Coleridge-Taylor.
Chineke! Orchestra is a British orchestra, the first professional orchestra in Europe to be made up of majority black and minority ethnic (BME) musicians. The orchestra was founded by world-renowned double-bassist Chi-chi Nwanoku OBE who says: ‚ÄėMy aim is to create a space where BME musicians can w...alk on stage and know that they belong.‚Äô Chineke!'s debut concert was in 2015 at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank Centre in London.
Samuel Coleridge-Taylor (15 August 1875 ‚Äď 1 September 1912) was an English composer and conductor of mixed heritage; his father was a Sierra Leonean physician. Coleridge-Taylor achieved such success that he was referred to by white New York musicians as the 'African Mahler' at the time when he had three tours of the United States in the early 1900s.
He was particularly known for his three cantatas based on the epic poem by American Henry Wadsworth Longfellow; Song of Hiawatha. Coleridge-Taylor premiered the first section in 1898, when he was 22 which went on to play to over a million people at the Royal Albert Hall.
He married an Englishwoman, Jessie Walmisley, and both their children had musical careers. Their son Hiawatha adapted his father's music for a variety of performances. Their daughter Avril Coleridge-Taylor also became a composer and conductor.
An Ensemble from the Chineke! Orchestra will play Coleridge-Taylor's extraordinary Clarinet Quintet alongside quartets by Beethoven as well as 2 other composers of African descent Joseph Boulogne (Le Chevalier de Saint-Georges) and the African-American composer Florence B. Price.

The friendliest and yet most cutting-edge venue in London. Specialises in London premieres of wonderful shows but also hosts regular Family Days when shows for kids and grown ups alike are followed by an excellent meal. Keep an eye out for what they do!
