About Drs Dear & Begg

Drs Dear, Begg and Robertson

Drs Dear & Begg Description

We are a 3 Partner (Doctor) General Medical Practice based in Newmains Health Centre.

We provide all the usual range of medical services, with two part-time Practice Nurses, Sisters Ann Tennent & Debbie Hunter who carry out smears, Asthma, Diabetes, COPD & Blood pressure checks and a part-time Nurse Practitioner, Sister Vickie Hall who deals with most minor illnesses and prescribes accordingly.

Patients are registered with the practice as a whole but may choose to see any of the doctors (Dr Nicolas Dear, Dr Louise Begg & Dr Linda Robertson) as they wish.

We also have a part-time GP retainer, Dr Sarah Anderson, working with us 3 half-days a week.

Patients also have access to the usual NHS services such as Health Visitors, District Nurses, Podiatry, Speech Therapy, Physiotherapy. The Health Centre also has a Treatment room providing services such as phlebotomy (blood samples), dressings & ear syringing.

Appointments may be made in person, over the phone or online through our online booking facility - contact one of our receptionists if you are interested in this new facility.

The Health Centre contains a pharmacy, and we are piloting the Electronic Chronic Medication Service, whereby patients with chronic medication conditions can attend the pharmacy directly for their prescriptions, without having to order them first.

Rhona our advanced practice physiotherapist will be doing telephone consultations on Wednesday morning next week as well as Tuesday afternoon. If you have a musculoskeletal problem you can book a phone appointment to speak to her via reception on 01698-384482

We are starting the process of contacting patients who have received a shielding letter from the Chief Medical Officer to have a chat around this. We have a short template to complete and add to these patients' records and will do this by phone. We are working through the lists that we have alphabetically (as you do) so we will get to everyone in turn. If you have received a shielding letter and wish to be pro-active we have no objections to you phoning reception and booking ...a phone appt (today with Dr Dear, tomorrow with Dr Dear or Advanced Nurse Practitioner Anne Rodger)
If you have NOT received a shielding letter and think you should have - or HAVE received a shielding letter and think you shouldn't have - please use the askmyGP service and we can review this.

Free stress control classes available online
The people of Lanarkshire can take advantage of a free online stress control resource that provides advice and support and helps deal with anxiety and stress during these challenging times.
Stress Control is a six-session class developed in Scotland and now run around the world. It teaches Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) skills to help deal with common problems such as anxiety, depression, panicky feelings, poor sleep and poor ...wellbeing.
NHS Lanarkshire psychological services staff run free Stress Control classes across the 10 localities all-year round. However, the Covid-19 pandemic means these classes canŌĆÖt be held at present.
So, because you canŌĆÖt go to Stress Control, Stress Control is coming to you.
Dr Jim White, the creator of Stress Control, is running free online sessions beginning on Monday 13 April. Each session will be streamed twice a day ŌĆō at 2pm, repeated at 8:30pm ŌĆō on Mondays and Thursdays. All of these classes will be led by Dr White, a consultant clinical psychologist and world-renowned expert in common mental health problems. Dr Simon Stuart, clinical psychologist with NHS Lanarkshire, said: ŌĆ£Stress Control has already benefited thousands of people across Lanarkshire. In these very challenging times, itŌĆÖs more valuable than ever that people can continue to get access to this kind of high-quality intervention. Everyone will find something to benefit them from Dr WhiteŌĆÖs excellent idea.ŌĆØ Dr Gary Tanner, NHS LanarkshireŌĆÖs director of psychological services, added: ŌĆ£With people currently unable to attend Stress Control groups in person, these virtual classes, streamed twice-weekly via YouTube across the UK, will help people find ways to manage stress, anxiety, and low mood. Each class is supported by a series of useful booklets.ŌĆØ For more information go to http://stresscontrol.org , where you can learn more about the classes, find all the dates, and get the link to the YouTube channel where the sessions will be streaming. Each class runs for 90 minutes, with a 10-minute break in the middle, and there are six in total. Stress Control online is likely to be a useful source of help, advice and support for everyone in Lanarkshire during these challenging times.

We will only have one GP here for the next 3 days along with our advanced nurse practitioner so there will be delays in responding to your askmyGP messages. Please bear with us and in particular we would appreciate it if patients stuck to full 48 hours notice for repeat prescriptions.

User

The askmyGP service is back up and running. Please appreciate there will be a delay in responding to queries as there is only one GP on today and some queries may not be responded to until tomorrow

User

These are all very apt and may help with explaining to children about social distancing

The is a problem with the askmyGP servers which means we cannot access the system meantime. The company is working on a solution so if you cannot log on please try later on

We are aware we haven't posted an update for a couple of days: as you are all probably aware we are in the calm before a storm phase of things.
We've been down to one patient care adviser all week with 4 members of staff self-isolating at one point but are pleased that so many of you have used our askmyGP service to deal with your enquiry. One member of staff returned this week, two are due back next week and the fourth the week after.
In common with all other GP practices we... are seeing very very few patients face to face - this is as much to reduce your risk of infection as ours. If we do so it will be under very strict conditions and the staff member seeing you will be wearing PPE.
Shielding letters have been sent out to those of our patients at the highest risk by the Chief Medical Officer. We haven't as yet had our notification of who these patients are but when we do these patients will receive a phone call from a clinical member of staff (Dr Dear, Dr Begg, Dr Guthrie, Sister Rodger or Sister Morgan) to go over the contents with you.
If you have received one of these letters and want to pro-actively discuss this please contact us by phone or using askmyGP and we will arrange a suitable time to chat.
We continue to have a daily morning "huddle" for all staff to discuss updates and new information and so are closed for a short period for that to happen, and we are also staying closed between 1 and 2pm to give everyone a breather,
As ever stay safe and keep looking at the NHS Inform website for all the most up to date advice:
