Jorge Lorenzo powers to a spectacular victory at the Red Bull Ring. Andrea Dovizioso finishes third in the Austrian GP
Jorge Lorenzo scored a splendid victory in the Austrian Grand Prix, round 11 of the MotoGP World Championship, which was held today at the Red Bull Ring circuit near Zeltweg in Styria. The rider from Mallorca, who started from the front row of the grid following yesterday’s third place in qualifying, opted to begin the race with ‘soft’ tyres both front and ...

Andrea Dovizioso and Jorge Lorenzo take the top 2 places on the first day of Austrian GP free practice at the Red Bull Ring
It was a good start for the two Ducati Team riders at the Red Bull Ring near Zeltweg today, where this weekend’s eleventh round of the championship – the Austrian Grand Prix – is taking place.
Andrea Dovizioso and Jorge Lorenzo ended the day in first and second position after concluding the morning’s dry weather session at the top of the timesheets, wh...ile the afternoon session was held in heavy rain and as a result the standings remained the same.
Dovizioso was the only rider capable of dipping under the 1 minute 24 second mark as he set a time of 1’23.830, while Lorenzo’s best lap time was 1’24.045.
Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team #04): 1st (1’23.830) “We got off to a very good start today and right from the morning session the bike was all set to go, mainly because we’ve just come from a race where we went very well and so we didn’t have to change the set-up very much. Even though we only did one session in the dry, our times are already very good and we have already completed a large part of the work load for the race. Unfortunately, in the afternoon we were unable to continue working on the tyres because of the rain, but what counts is that we were quick right from the start. Tomorrow let’s hope that the weather conditions allow us to work on the final details for the race.”
Jorge Lorenzo (Ducati Team #99): 2nd (1’24.045) “Today we weren’t able to draw many conclusions for the race, but in the few laps we did we were always amongst the quickest and we were competitive both in the morning when it was dry and in the afternoon with the rain. Finishing the day in second place behind Andrea is a good sign, but we will have to try and improve even more, especially under braking, and so I hope that the weather conditions tomorrow will allow us to work on this. In any case we’ve begun this weekend well.”

Ducati Team scores a fantastic 1-2 victory at Brno. Andrea Dovizioso wins the Czech Grand Prix ahead of Jorge Lorenzo, second at the flag
Both Ducati Team riders put in great performances today at the Automotodrom circuit near Brno, with Andrea Dovizioso celebrating his 100th GP for Ducati by winning the Czech Grand Prix ahead of his team-mate Jorge Lorenzo, who finished a close runner-up.
The Italian rider, who started from pole position, led for 18 of the scheduled 21 lap...

Andrea Dovizioso fifth on first day of free practice for the Czech Grand Prix at Brno. Jorge Lorenzo ends the day in fifteenth place
Andrea Dovizioso was fifth-quickest on the opening day of free practice action for the Czech Grand Prix, the tenth round of the MotoGP World Championship which is taking place this weekend at the Automotodrom circuit on the outskirts of Brno.
After wrapping up the morning’s FP1 session in second place, the Ducati Team’s Italian rider then set ...a time of 1’56.218 in the afternoon run to go fifth quickest.
Spanish team-mate Jorge Lorenzo, who was twelfth in the first free practice session, ended up fifteenth after the Mallorcan rider could only manage a time of 1’57.205 in the afternoon.
Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team #04): 5th (1’56.218) “Today was a very prolific day of work and we were able to try a lot of things in view of the race. Our pace is good, we already have some clear ideas about the set-up and the tyres, and we’re quick. At the end of the second session we didn’t want to put on the soft tyres but we were inside the top ten anyway. Now we have to try and work to improve our race pace a bit more, but all in all I’m really happy with my first day here at Brno.”
Jorge Lorenzo (Ducati Team #99): 15th (1’57.205) “It was a very complicated day for me today: I didn’t have any feeling with the front but above all I was lacking grip with the rear tyre and for this reason I’m a lot further back than I thought. During the two sessions we weren’t able to improve the bike and, despite the modifications we made, we’re still some way off the pace of the quickest riders. Maybe if I had put on new tyres at the end I could have finished the day closer to the leaders, but in any case I didn’t have either the speed or the consistency. Tomorrow we’ll make a radical change to the set-up and try and get directly into Q2.”

MotoGP | Round 10 - Brno | Thursday 2 August 2018 Czech Republic GP (Brno): Statistics
- Jorge Lorenzo has scored five wins in the Czech Republic: 2004 in 125cc; 2006 and 2007 in 250cc; and 2010 and 2015 in MotoGP, and a total of nine podiums. Jorge joins Rossi and Pedrosa as the only three riders who have won in Brno in all three categories.
... - Lorenzo also has five pole positions at Brno: 2005, 2006 and 2007 in 250cc; 2012 and 2015 in MotoGP, and has been on the front row of the grid nine times.
- Lorenzo has led the race from the start four times this season. He is the rider who has led most often after the lights go out for the race start.
- In the last six GPs, Lorenzo has been the rider who has gained the most positions in the early stages of each race. In Jerez he picked up three places, five in France, one in Italy, eight in Holland and two in Germany. Only in Catalonia, where he started from pole position, did he lose two places. In last year’s GP Lorenzo started sixth on the grid and reached second on the first lap.
- Ducati holds the top speed record at Brno of 316.4 km/h, set in 2015.
- Ducati has two victories in the Czech Republic and both were achieved consecutively, with Capirossi in 2006 and Stoner in 2007.
- Troy Bayliss finished third in the 2003 race, which was the first season for Ducati in MotoGP. Since then, the Italian brand has collected podiums at the Czech track, through Capirossi, Stoner, Elias and the aforementioned Bayliss.
- Dovizioso has finished second four times in the Czech GP, all of them divided between the 125cc, 250cc and MotoGP classes.
Curiosities
- The Brno track was inaugurated in 1987 and with the exception of 1992, has always held a World Championship event. Along with Jerez and Assen the Czech circuit has hosted the most GPs and these three are the only remaining venues on the calendar to host a race uninterruptedly since 1993.
- It is the only circuit that has not undergone any variation in its layout in its 31 years of existence.
- The largest elevation change on the track is 74 metres, starting from the high point at the entrance to turn 3, to the lowest point between turns 10 and 11.
- Riders go from 315 km/h to 125 km/h at the end of the finish line, braking for a distance of 333 metres over 6.4 seconds, making it one of the longest braking areas of the entire Championship. But the most difficult braking happens in turn 10, which is downhill and requires the riders to use a force of 6.2 kg on the brake lever, creating a deceleration of 1.5 G.
- In the 31-year history of the Brno track, the 2016 race was the first to be held in wet conditions. Last year in 2017, the race was declared wet and riders had to change bikes under the flag-to-flag rule.
- Brno has a total of 400,000 inhabitants, making it the second most important city in the country after the capital, Prague.

Jorge Lorenzo and Andrea Dovizioso finish sixth and seventh in the German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring
Jorge Lorenzo came home in sixth place in the German Grand Prix, which was held today at the Sachsenring circuit. The Spanish rider, who powered away from the front row after setting the third quickest time in qualifying, led the race for 12 laps but was passed by Marquez and then by Rossi, and gradually lost ground to finish the ninth round of the season in sixth place....
Seventh place went to Andrea Dovizioso, who started from the seond row. The Italian rider managed to make his way up to fifth place by the half-way point but was then passed by Bautista and Viñales and he took the chequered flag in seventh place.
Thanks to today’s results, Andrea Dovizioso and Jorge Lorenzo move up to fourth and sixth place in the championship standings, with 88 and 84 points respectively.
The MotoGP World Championship will be back on track again from 3rd to 5th August at the Brno circuit for the Czech Grand Prix, while all the Ducati riders will meet their fans next week at the WDW (World Ducati Week), which will be held at the Misano Adriatico circuit from 20th to 22nd July.
Jorge Lorenzo (Ducati Team #99) – 6th “I made a great start again today and led the race for a number of laps, but right from the start I noticed that the track didn’t have much grip. I was leading but I realized that I was unable to shake off the riders behind me and when the rear tyre began to lose grip it was impossible to keep up the pace. Overall we made progress throughout the weekend, but we weren’t able to confirm the good job we did with a positive result. Maybe we went in the wrong direction with the setting of the bike: we focussed too much on trying to get a lot of grip at the front and we probably neglected the rear a bit, which in the end compromised our race and made it impossible to fight for the podium. Now the WDW awaits us at Misano and then, after a few days rest, we’ll concentrate on Brno where I’m convinced we’ll be back stronger than ever.”
Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team #04) – 7th “It was a difficult race, but at least this time we were amongst the leading group at a circuit where, in the past, we had never obtained any good results. We had a good pace at the start of the race, but I wasn’t able to ride smoothly and so I couldn’t keep up the same pace until the end. Until half-way through the race I was lapping with the same times as the leaders, but then the rear tyre dropped off and I was no longer able to ride in a smooth way and make the bike flow through the middle of the corners. Pity, but we’ll also take stock of this experience to get a better idea of which direction to follow

Front row start for Jorge Lorenzo, who qualifies third for the German GP at the Sachsenring. Andrea Dovizioso finishes fifth and lines up on row 2 for the ninth round of the season
Jorge Lorenzo will line up on the front row of the grid for tomorrow’s ninth round of the championship – the German Grand Prix – after setting the third quickest time in qualifying at the Sachsenring. This morning the rider from Mallorca finished FP3 in eighth place, but this was enough to see hi...m through into the afternoon’s Q2 session, in which he set a time of 1’20.327 to line up on row 1 alongside Marquez and Petrucci.
Team-mate Andrea Dovizioso set the fifth quickest time in 1’20.444, which puts him on the second row of the grid for the 30-lap race. This morning the Italian missed out on a top 10 place by a whisker and he had to work his way through Q1 in the early afternoon, which he did brilliantly with the quickest time.
The German Grand Prix gets underway tomorrow at 14.00 CET and will be held over a distance of 30 laps.
Jorge Lorenzo (Ducati Team #99): 3rd (1’20.327) “I’m really pleased with my lap time and a front row position and I would have signed on the dotted line for a qualifying result like this if I had known before arriving here at the Sachsenring. I even think I could have improved on my time and fought for the pole with Marquez if I hadn’t made a small mistake in the final corner, losing a little bit of precious time. I’m working well with my team but the race will be a long and very difficult one, so it’ll be important to make the right choice of tyre, get a good start and save some energy for the final stages. In any case we are set up well and I think that tomorrow we can fight for the podium and maybe even for the win.”
Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team #04): 5th (1’20.444) “All in all today went well, even though this morning we just missed out on getting into the top 10 by a few thousandths of a second. We tried various set-ups but the grip drops off so much that it’s difficult to have precise feedback. In any case in the FP4 session we lapped in line with the other riders who used new tyres, demonstrating that we had a good pace. Then we stayed calm during Q1, where we ended up with the quickest time, and we went through Q2 without any problems in fifth, which earned us an important row 2 start. For the race we are fast for sure but the unknown factor for everyone will be tyre management and it’ll be the wear and the drop in the rear tyre that will make the real difference.”

Ducati Team riders get off to a good start in the German Grand Prix, with Jorge Lorenzo first and Andrea Dovizioso fourth on the opening day of practice at the Sachsenring
The German Grand Prix weekend got off to a positive start for both Ducati Team riders at the Sachsenring. After two free practice sessions at the German circuit, Jorge Lorenzo ended the day at the top of the timesheets with a fastest lap of 1’20.885 while his team-mate Andrea Dovizioso was classified four...th with a time of 1’21.309.
There were five Ducati riders in the top 10 today, with Lorenzo and Dovizioso joined in the leading positions by Danilo Petrucci (second) and Jack Miller (eighth) with the Pramac Racing Desmosedici machines and Alvaro Bautista tenth for the Angel Nieto Team.
Jorge Lorenzo (Ducati Team #99): 1st (1’20.885) “I’m very pleased with the way this first day went, especially because we made a big step forward and the bike improved a lot between FP1 and FP2. To be in first place and demonstrate that you are competitive is important, but we know that Marquez looks as if he has something a bit extra and he is the favourite for Sunday. Tomorrow we’ll try and continue this progress with the aim of getting a front row start for the race. In any case at the moment we’re much better off than last year and this is good news.”
Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team #04): 4th (1’21.309) “It has been a positive first day: we were quick both in the morning and this afternoon, and this is vital to be able to focus on the details during the weekend. I’m still not entirely satisfied with a few little things, but I think that we can improve them tomorrow. At the moment Marquez is the quickest man out there for pace, but there are a few Ducati riders who have good speed and so our base is a good one. Even though we are quick, we’ll continue to work on our pace because on Sunday the race will be held over 30 laps. At any rate, we went very well today for the first day.”

Being a pedantic kind of fellow that I am, when I had decided to buy a new bike, I thought I'd shop around: see what I wanted, see what I could get and ultimately buy the perfect bike for me... I had gone to every bike shop in and around London, but I can honestly say, Kevin was so knowledgable and offered so much reasonable advice (he also called, left messages, sent detailed answers, never pressured me at all... Just gave me options, while every other place sent me a link, gave me one word answers and talked about leaving deposits without seeing bikes... Madness) that I really had to go to visit Ducati Croydon.

First things first, we had a cup of tea and chewed over the sort of bike I wanted, needed and what was practical. Who knows what I would have bought had I been left to my own devices... After that, he left it up to me: again, no pressure, no nonsense, just advice and seeing what fit me. I think I annoyed him with almost every ridiculous question you could imagine (really, some were just silly). However, he shared his experience and knowledge generously, with no patronising or hard sell.

Finally, I settled on the bike I wanted and put a deposit down. I knew that the bike would take some time to come (Still no date from Ducati in Italy). However, Kevin still diligently gives me progress reports, tells me about new Ducatiish things that are happening and just generally keeping me excited about the bike (I really can't bloody wait).

So, there it is. I'm having to write this in my break (unfortunately, Ducati still makes very expensive, beautiful bikes and I have to work every minute I can to afford one). However, if you want amazing service, Kevin, who really will guide you through every step is your man. The best service I have ever received.

Cheers Kevin and Ducati Croydon

Great service from these guys! The only thing was the wait for bikes to arrive but that might. S a supplier issue rather than them... love my new Ducati!
