About Dulwich Outdoor Gallery

Dulwich Outdoor Gallery are walls and pavements painted by top international street artists based on works at Dulwich Picture Gallery.

Dulwich Outdoor Gallery Description

Dulwich Outdoor Gallery is unique. An idea born between Ingrid Beazley and street artist Stik in 2012. It is a collection of murals painted by some of the top street artists alive today and have a common theme. They are all based on 17th & 18th century paintings in the permanent collection at Dulwich Picture Gallery.
England's oldest public art gallery has been an inspiration to its newest.

Further works were commissioned throughout the wider Dulwich area including "Baroque the Streets" for Dulwich Festival 2013 involving the interior and exterior of 265 Lordship Lane, a property made available by developers pre-demolition lent to the project for the weekend launch. More murals have been added in the Nunhead & Peckham area in 2015 all based on the Dulwich Picture Gallery Paintings.

In May 2016 a pop up shop popped up in the centre of Dulwich Village (now closed) selling the movable work of the artists involved in Dulwich Outdoor Gallery, called - DULWICH OUTDOOR GALLERY - INDOORS. Formerly at 84 Dulwich Village, SE21 7AJ

Burbage Rd Bridge artwork finished. by Lionel Stanhope and Owain Nichols. The grand cutting of the ribbon by Network rail (their 50th funded mural said Paul Harwood) and speeches by the visionary Exit Burbage team Louise and Alison (who came on a street art walk with me last May and discussed the possibility of this very project). Based on a portrait of the shakespearean actor Richard Burbage, at Dulwich Picture Gallery, this is a new addition to the Dulwich Outdoor Gallery. Loved the cupcakes!

I'll take you on a walking tour around the wider Peckham area, South East London starting at Nunhead Green SE15 ending at Rye Lane by Peckham train station/Bussey building. I'l be showing you works by renown contemporary global street artists inspired by the Baroque paintings within nearby Dulwich Picture Gallery (the oldest public gallery in England, opened 1817) . This unique Outdoor Gallery came about in 2012 with Ingrid Beazley initially finding local walls for one of our... main artists, Stik who has 6 pieces you can see on my other StreetArt walk around Dulwich itself (dulwichoutdoorgallery.co.uk) Ingrid is author of StreetArt/FineArt which documents this project. I'm endorsed by Ingrid to continue these walks as her legacy, and following on from guided walks for Dulwich Festival. Artists we will see: Pure Evil, Inkie, Agent Provocateur, Faith47, Mehdi Ghanyanloo, ROA, Walter Kershaw, Thierry Noir, Phlegm also a mention to hoardings on Blenheim Grove: Soul_d, Agent Provocateur, Tizer, Matt Collier, Luap

Weird and wonderful - @phlegm_art brings his creatures to new heights! @ Sheffield

Phlegm 3D - "Mausoleum of the Giants" a sculptural installation in an old cutlery factory (one week left only). Milton street. Funded by some insightful folk at Sheffield Uni and Sheffield Council, Phlegm has been invited back to his home territory. These surreal characters, in familiar Phlegm style, are created on a massive scale - curled and hunched up into the architectural spaces, standing in ceremonial groups like spooky voodoo totems. The story is: these are supposedly ancient beasts laying down ready for their eternal rest. Hugely popular with families, locals, non arty and arty types coming far and wide. Phlegm giving back to his city, Sheffield having this surge of creativity, bringing people together who are all connecting with this in their own way. Nice one Sheffield.

The Angels have sadly fallen! Remi Rough's work on the former Audi garage site, Calton Ave Se21, now recently demolished. This piece was inspired by “The Fall of the Rebel Angels” by Sebatiano Ricci (The Archangel Micheal is driving the rebel angels from heaven (Revelation XII, 9) Remi Rough has repeated the compositional diagonals and referred to the dark chaos in Ricci’s original. Here's my photo tho as a reminder of the dazzling mural. Remi's abstract plus figurative style using a vivid palette. Wonderful against a clear bright blue sky
