We had our wedding meal here July 2017. absolutely excellent food, they catered for all ages, food was piping hot an presented beautiful on the plates. Plenty to eat. The staff were brilliant from start to finish. They dressed and lay out all the tables as on the plan I gave them beforehand. If there was anything that we wanted, then they got it straight away. The staff gave us 100% and more. They gave us a beautiful day to remember. Faultless in every way. Thankyou so much

We enjoyed my birthday lunch yesterday. I'd asked to pre-order so the kids didn't have to sit & wait too long. Service & food was nice. Children had fun on the play area & free face painting too. Defo will return

User

Visited today for my grandads 80th fantastic meal, staff couldn’t have done any more for us, my nana his gluten free and doesn’t like any spice on her food and she loved her meal. The entertainer for the children was good a little added extra.

User

Very nice food, hot. Came quickly and staff very attentive. The fixed price menu was good value and got a free bottle of prosecco as it was our anniversary (have to sign up online.) will definitely go again to try the pizzas and kebabs only negative - it was uncomfortably warm due to being such a hot day and no fans etc.

User

I came for my birthday dinner last night, brilliant time was had by all , I was a little worried as sometimes good restaurants struggle with providing such good food during the festive period but you didn't disappoint-even if you did throw fries over my cousins partner- dinner and a show ! Our waitress , Christine was brilliant along with the rest of the team , even before last night the customer service was wonderful. I can't wait for another occasion to come back. Thank You

I am surprised at some of the not so good reviews. We have eaten at ego on numerous occasions. Only a few times we have sat and ate in the restaurant, other times we have just sat in the bar area and ordered pizzas, chips or tapas whilst drinking cocktails. The pina coladas are by far my favourite but all the cocktails I have tried are of good quality. Food has always been nice and has always been warm enough. Staff are polite and good at noticing when our glasses are ready for a refill so we rarely have to leave our seats. Even our 8 year old Daughter likes a trip to Ego. Personally I am yet to find any fault with the place.

User

I am a fussy eater - service good - the food was good the tarragon souse for the hale fish dish was spot on . Only negative was the treacle sauce that came with treacle toffee pudding was like a swimming pool

User

Fantastic place ..went a couple of weeks ago then again on Mothering Sunday ...even though it was busy ..the food was amazing and the staff were fabulous, really attentive and the whole experience was 5/5 ...looking forward to returning very soon ..good job guys x

Booked a table for Tuesday Steak Night.

Probably one of the best steaks I have had.... ordered RARE and served as that - a chef that actually understands how to cook a steak.

Attentive staff that knew the menu.

If you haven’t been - try it.

Brilliant

User

Food was very good apart from the fries which are obviously frozen fries. Some staff very nice and polite but one cruella lookalike was very abrupt. She told us (after our mains) that no more orders were being taken for around 30 minutes which meant that we would get dessert. Next minute nice staff came and took our order knowing nothing of the wait and our desserts were there in 5 minutes.

Overall good food. Needs to be a bit better run

User

Date night with the wife on the hottest bank holiday weekend Saturday of the year so very busy. Overall, great evening. Good selection of gins and extensive menu. It's not bargain basement, two courses with wine and a couple of aperitif's will be north of £100. However, it's probably the classiest restaurant & bar in the area and the food was fine. Service was exemplary.

User

Visited this evening and sadly as nice as the food is the service is very poor. Our drinks where forgotten about. Items where missing from the food and we where offered the desert menus but they where never brought to the table despite requesting them. When we expressed our dissatisfaction to the waitress no real regret was expressed and no offer of resolution so we skipped desert and left. We must thank the lack of service for saving our waistlines I guess but overall very poor service

User

Very disappointed with our visit on Saturday at around 4.30. First thing was that when my starter was brought out it was wrong so was taken away, my partner had eaten his by the time mine came out. When they brought the first starter out we were asked if we wanted a drink, a good 15 minuets later we had to ask where they were, I had asked for a glass of water, this never came. When the main meal came out my partner asked for another drink, when they came to collect our plates when we had finished we had to again ask where the drink was. The main meals were not that filling, not a lot of sides with them and my lamb was very fatty and difficult to cut, so much so that I had to borrow my partners steak knife to cut it. I found it to be very expensive for very poor service. Shame really as it is quite local to us and if we had enjoyed it we would definitely have returned. I can’t even say that it was because it was busy because it wasn’t really, service for the tables eating just didn’t seem to be a priority.

User

The food was really nice. The service let the place down. 45 minutes from sitting down to being served our starters. Also we were asked if we wanted pudding, 'yes please'....no menu's were brought to us. Another waitress came to our table after more than 15 minutes waiting, 'would you like anymore drinks or desserts'....I think we had at least 5 waitresses serve our table throughout the meal and kept getting food brought to us for the table next to us. Yes it was busy, but if you cannot cope with that many tables, you shouldn't take the bookings.

My mother and one year old son arrived for food at 18:00 today (Thursday). It was very negative from the start. Val, a staff member was not helpful, we felt we were a burden for asking for food availability. He said no and seemed like it was too much trouble.

Martina, however, was very helpful and stated we could eat outside, as my son wanted to wander around and play in the play area. She advised us that we could eat anywhere and it was absolutely fine, as long as we ordered inside.

We ordered from the two course menu which was clearly on display. Instant negativity from val, as though we shouldn’t have been ordering from that menu and it was too much trouble. Martina instantly advised it would be ok and no trouble but just to let her know when we were ready for second course, as she couldn’t see, which we fully understood. Val however made it clear that this was not ok. By that point, my mother was not prepared to pay for a meal in an establishment where we felt unwelcome. We went to the Countryman instead. Jay, the bar shift manager was fabulous. Nothing was too much trouble. States we could eat anywhere and was professional and attentive.

Such a shame.

Me and my husband came here last night and was really disappointed with the service. We were seated but never asked if we wanted drinks so had to flag someone down. Then after the main we were told we’d have a dessert menu bought over but it never arrived. So we had to ask again. Then the bill came to £81 even though I’d shown then my voucher to get my 3 course meal for free. The staff are lovely, especially the older lady but the service is defo letting them down. We’ve booked for 12 people for father’s day and I’ve got to admit I’m very nervous about this...... 😖

User

I visited on Wednesday , the staff were pleasant but the service was slow , my friends main was brought out first and I told her to start , and I sat waiting for my meal. The waitress even came over to ask my friend “if everything was ok with her meal” when she could see mine had not been brought out. I pointed this out and she went to chase it up. It was still a fair wait until my paella arrived and when it did it was a very small portion for £12.95. To be fair when I ordered more drinks they did give us those on the house. We ordered desserts and again after a significant wait (they were not so busy at this point) they arrived without any ice cream . I queried this and the waitress went to check and she had to take the menu to the service point to show the chef that the menu did indeed say it should be served with ice cream.

All in all for the prices charged I expect a much slicker and proficient service .

User

I visited The Ego last week with a friend and found the service very slow. We were seated at our table at it was a significant wait for our drinks order to be taken, and again to be delivered. We then waited quite a long period of time for our food order to be taken. When the food was delivered I would’ve expected a much quicker turn around time, and for both meals to be served together! My meal was delivered first and I also recieved a check back before my friend had even received her meal which was quite disappointing when it was eventually delivered! We did order desserts but these were served incorrectly and when these were questioned it took quite a while for it to be rectified. The staff were very friendly, however I won’t be returning. The restaurant is far too expensive for the service time and for the standard of food that was delivered to us.

User

Food was ok, but not the best I've tasted. Service let the whole evening down as very slow. Most of the staff stood around talking whilst we were left with empty plates and empty drinks! Poor experience and won't visit again unless under better management!
