An inspiring talk by Stephanie MacDonald and Tom Emerson of 6a Architects on Scribes and Squares for the 21st annual Peter Dormer lecture Royal College of Art The first image shows items uncovered during building work in the vaults under their home/studio - a bottle of poison, Georgian pottery, Victorian clay pipes, an oyster shell and a passport photo of Massive Attack’s Daddy G. Vividly demonstrating the wealth of stories our built environments can tell. The second and third images show details of the firm’s reimagining of two houses in Spitalfields into Raven Row Gallery. Metalwork by @edwinheathcote with the stair handrail and knobs inspired by the building’s Georgian past. The tactile knob is further personalised with the client’s thumbprint. @ Royal College of Art

A favourite nautical textile hanging by Alexander Hardie Williamson commissioned by Yarrow & Co Ltd, a shipbuilding company that relocated from Poplar to Glasgow in 1906. It commemorates 100 years of ship-building and features iconic ships designed and built on the Clyde including a sailing clipper, a Royal Naval submarine and the Royal yacht Britannia. Screen-Printed Linen, 1956

Fascinating conversation between @paulsmith and @alice.rawsthorn on the great textile artist Anni Albers, subject of a major retrospective @tate Modern. Paul showed some of his favourite pieces by Albers as well as sharing the inspiration behind a collection he produced in collaboration with @albers_foundation Naturally he modelled the blanket while Alice looked great in the pullover. @ Tate Modern

A different type of ferry.. this is one of the Shannon Ferries ro-ro boats that make the 20 minute crossing of the Shannon estuary between Tarbert in county Kerry and Killimer in Clare. It’s the busiest domestic ferry service in Ireland. We didn’t see any dolphins this time but the crows were very tame. I think they’ve developed a taste for sweets n treats! @ Killimer-Tarbert Ferry

Last of the berries for a while.. I couldn’t resist the shadows of the spindle berries against the chimney breast. The spindle tree - euonymous europea is another plant that has naturalised around the shoreline of Lough Ree. The fruit is a bright pink four or five-valved pod-like berry. These gradually split open to reveal orange seeds. The effect is quite striking. The wood of some species was traditionally used for the making of spindles for spinning wool, this use is the origin of the English name of the shrubs. @ Lough Ree
