Elim Church Chelmsford [Ecc] Description

As the result of a visit to the Chelmsford Corn Exchange, by Rev Stephen Jeffreys in 1927, Elim Church was born out of the many people who chose to become followers of Jesus. Numbers steadily grew at their meeting place: The "Co-Op Hall" in Barrack Square and the need to find a home developed.

Their first real home was in the Elim church in Mildmay Road (now the Mencap Hall). Here developed significant ministries for all ages. Sunday Schools, Bible studies and homegroups all began to play a part in the church's growth. As times changed and new ideas came along, Elim was always willing to move with the times and remain relevant to the people it served.

Today, Elim Church is known as Elim Christian Centre, as it seeks to reach out to people in Chelmsford. Whilst the message of Jesus and the Gospel remains the same throughout history, the way we do things is very different as we compare Elim of 1927 and Elim of today.

We at Elim are keeping up with the times by using new, modern methods of communicating our faith. As is seen throughout our history in Chelmsford, the church in Mildmay Road grew to a point where a new building had to be sought. Today, Elim Christian Centre occupies a major town centre site in Hall Street, and once again, is outgrowing its space very quickly.
