About Elizabeth Gage

"To me jewellery is an art form" Elizabeth Gage

Elizabeth Gage Description

Company Overview

Unconventionally elegant: Elizabeth’s unique artistry knows no bounds. Timeless, the essence of Elizabeth Gage oscillates between her love of art and that of precious stones. Enchanted by her studies at Chelsea Art School and the British Museum, Elizabeth’s desire to channel her creativity into jewellery was sparked. With a unique philosophy, Elizabeth set out to create jewellery that was wearable from “day into night”. Presented with an ounce of gold after completing her jeweller’s qualifications at Sir John Cass College, not only did Elizabeth fashion her first ring but born, was a new age jewellery lifestyle signed Elizabeth Gage.

Beyond a jewel, Elizabeth’s work is also an expression of how she sees the world around her: the art of nature, the myths of the past, the richness of different cultures and the ludic animal kingdom, all fuel her creativity. Starting with a precious jewel, an exquisite fossil or an historical treasure, each piece has a story. Avant-garde, her pieces of meticulous craftsmanship, bold colour and material combinations are globally identifiable, to such an extent that when one of her creations was found in a New York gutter, the owner was able to be sourced and reunited with her jewel.

The significance of Elizabeth’s work and the impact she has had on the world of jewellery has been widely recognised receiving, amongst other accolades, the Queens Award for Export, the De Beers Diamond Award and furthermore her work features in the prestigious Victoria and Albert Museum as part of their permanent jewellery collection.

Elizabeth’s iconic Zodiac rings started by chance when she was inspired by a visit to the the Benaki Museum in Athens. She came upon a long cylinder decorated by many lion heads and so her lion ring was born.
“My Zodiac collection started with my Lion ring. The lion soon became Leo and the other eleven signs of the Zodiac soon followed.” Elizabeth Gage http://bit.ly/2SY3jYL

Every designer has signature pieces, ones that are instantly recognisable. This week, we take a look at Elizabeth Gage’s classic designs…
“My second project I made at the Sir John Cass College was a ring, set with amethysts and peridots. I wanted it to look like a modern drum, but when finished, it resembled a Persian carpet. I called it my #Agincourt ring. I won a De Beers Award five years later for another style of Agincourt ring. I have since enjoyed creating this ring in many colours and designs, and have also introduced a flexible bracelet to the collection.” Elizabeth Gage http://bit.ly/2MgOAET

Why not commission pieces to mark those significant places or tell the story of your own personal journeys?
Elizabeth’s Manhattan Bracelet was inspired by her favourite New York landmarks, including the Federal Hall in Wall Street. The architect of this impressive building, and the person behind most of the interior ornamental detail, was John Frazee, who was related to Elizabeth’s mother’s family >> http://bit.ly/2NKwO0O

One commission was made for an artist who incorporates the sun, leaves, hearts, the moon and stars into her art, which she wanted reflected in a special commission by Elizabeth Gage.
These are all symbols that Elizabeth enjoys using in her designs and she found it inspiring to work with another artist who shared her love of these elements.
Elizabeth felt that the gold torque necklace needed a focal point and chose a bronze Roman coin with a lovely patina as the centre with ...molten sun rays flowing from it at the front of the necklace. On either side of the torque she scattered different sized carved stars with diamonds centres.
