About Expatriate Law

Divorce & Family law

Expatriate Law Description

We appreciate the need to protect you and your children during the uncertainties of divorce. Our clients have told us it was a ŌĆśbreath of fresh airŌĆÖ and a ŌĆśweight off their shouldersŌĆÖ talking to us. Our breadth of experience allows us to deliver realistic and clear advice. Our lawyers are all qualified solicitors or barristers, regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority of England or Bar Standards Board. Additionally our lawyers are members of or accredited by Resolution, the former Solicitors Family Law Association in England.

We are proud to have advised a wide range of clients from corporation owners to members of ruling families. We give a discrete, confidential and personalised service to all we assist, whether in complex litigation or a straightforward divorce.

We realize that the breakdown of a marriage can be traumatic for a husband and wife, and any children involved. Living as an expatriate, these feelings can be compounded by unfamiliar surroundings, lack of ready and clear advice, and the inability to turn to a wider family network living ŌĆśback homeŌĆÖ.

We promote a constructive, non-confrontational approach to the resolution of family law issues. In our experience, this minimises disruption to any children involved, and leads to long standing workable solutions. However, where decisive or immediate Court action is required, for example to recover an abducted child, or prevent the dissipation of matrimonial assets, our lawyers act promptly and efficiently to safeguard the interests of a client.

Expatriate Law are delighted to host an informative evening of discussion, networking and sharing centred around the theme of 'taking control'. The event is free to attend, and aimed at expatriate women living in Singapore. There will be an opportunity to listen to short informative presentations, followed by drinks and networking.

Well done to Expatriate Law's Lauren Carmichael who spoke on child abduction matters at Resolution's family law conference on Thursday alongside Will Tyler QC and Jeremy Ford. It was a well attended and thought provoking evening.

On my way back from Edinburgh after the 4 Jurisdictions Family Law Conference; a great event gathering 180 divorce and family lawyers from all over the UK. Our barrister, Byron James, lectured on the enforcement of orders abroad. Wonderful to be back in beautiful Edinburgh after so many years.

An article I wrote for @SpearsMagazine on the potential consequences of a marriage breakdown abroad has been published. In this article, I strongly recommend that businesses need to educate employees of the enhanced risks when a relationship implodes in an overseas jurisdiction.

We are delighted by such a wonderful client review that appeared in Singapore Living magazine this month: https://e-magazine.cld.bz/Expatliving-SiŌ Ć”/sg-JANUARY-2019/ŌĆ”/ "ŌĆśSonny is honestly everything you would want in a solicitor, especially in matters of divorce. He is experienced, knowledgeable, compassionate, a great listener and eloquent negotiator with outstanding knowledge of both British and International divorce laws. It is so easy to communicate with him and he always replies promptly and effectively giving absolute peace of mind. He is a great asset to have in your corner."

A brilliant conference on family law organised by the International Academy of Family Lawyers. I was pleased to talk to delegates about family law in the UAE , and the legal and practical steps that expatriates can take following divorce or separation.

A month to go until our firm's International Family Law Conference in Dubai. With 50 lawyers now attending from the UK, US, South Africa and Australia, it should be an excellent learning and networking opportunity. The conference has been accredited by the Dubai Legal Affairs Department, so UAE advocates and legal consultants will gain 4 CLPD points. Email sally@expatriatelaw.com for bookings.
