Congratulations to our English junior teams - both getting in to the quarter-finals in Finland at the World Junior B Curling Challenge! Most of the Men's and Women's teams have several years left to compete at this level and are sure to make even greater headway in future. Well done!

Winter Olympics are nearly here - and as the build-up gets under way on the media, our bookings and enquiries hot up!! We are open right up to the end of April - so come along and give curling a try. New to the Olympics this year is Mixed Doubles curling - it's a bit different in format to normal curling - so here's a useful guide issued by the World Curling Federation - http://www.worldcurling.org/owg…/about- mixed-doubles-curling

Come and try proper curling! We know there are some ice rinks now offering "curling" ...of sorts!! But there is still only one place in England where you can try the real thing - at Fenton's Rink. Our rink is dedicated to curling (no skating allowed!!) and we have a full sized playing surface, properly prepared, with all the right gear - just as you see at the Winter Olympics. Many members of the English teams are based here in Kent and practice regularly on the rink.
...Our staff are fully trained to show you how to play the sport of curling - led by certified World Curling Federation coaches. We also ensure that your experience is fun as well as instructive, so why not do the thing properly - and pay us a visit with your family, friends or colleagues?
You can now book direct online at www.curlinginkent.co.uk - or you can call us on 01892 826004.

Olympic medal hopefuls, Team Muirhead, spent the day here at the rink to mark 100 days before the start of the Winter Games in South Korea. Media crews were on hand to capture the team's preparations for the big event.

In the final on Sunday the Boys Champions were Jake Barker (skip), Joe Sugden, Felix Price and Ben Holley and winners in the Girls play-downs were Sarah Decoine (skip), Kitty Conlin, Niamh Fenton and Mia Ansell. Well done to our visitors from Nairn Curling Club - winners of The Alexander Fleming Cup held at the rink this weekend. Congratulations to Ali Cruickshank, Ross Cope, Colin McGregor and Hamish Clark. Second was Peter Duncan, Samantha Leung, Ian MacDonald and Chloe Gilbert. It was good to see a young team from Beacon School aquit themselves so well - Sydney Boyd, Will Shepperson, Anna Howey,Owen Brackpool andAnnabelle Martin finished in 4th spot. And a big thank you to George and Sara Weech for organising the whole week-end.

A special word of congratulations to Ben Fowler, Andrew Woolston's vice in the winning English Curling Champs team. A real 100% Englishman, born and bred - AND learned his curling in the deep south of England. Fantastic - Well done Ben for sticking at it!

JUNIOR AND SCHOOLS CURLING 2016-17
First Junior get-together - Oct 10th!
A full programme of curling for young curlers of all ages and abilities will be once more run by Fenton’s Rink in the new season. Our teams have enjoyed growing success in the past few years and are now taken very seriously at international level. Almost all young English curlers are the product of our training programmes – so get involved and start winning! ...
Schools Curling We offer introductory sessions for beginners consisting of 5 or more 2-hour sessions with a qualified coach. These sessions are normally held in the afternoons, either within the school day (2pm) or immediately after (4pm). Those taking part are eligible to enter a team for the English Schools Championships to be held in April 2017. A five session course costs £35 per student.
Weekly Junior Curling An evening Junior session will be held each week from 6pm to 8pm on Monday evenings. These are open to all Junior members of Fenton’s Rink, from novices to those training for the English National teams. Juniors are aged under 21.
Our coaches will organise training for all levels and encourage all young curlers to participate in a Skills Awards programme, which marks the achievement of various standards of curling by the award of a certificate. The cost of Fenton’s Rink membership is £10 for the season and ice fees for each session are £8.
Elite Training As young curlers develop, they become more interested in competitive curling, which requires a high level of skill and technique. Our coaches constantly review the progress of those coming to our junior and school sessions, identifying those with the dedication and talent to be potential members of our national squads. Such individuals will be invited to participate in Elite Training sessions normally held on Sunday mornings throughout the season. Our coaches select the composition of teams to go forward to take part in English Championships which also act as play-downs for participation in World Curling events.
Curling Trips The Rink coaches identify suitable Junior events for selected teams to participate in. These can be fun competitions such as The International Junior Curling Club Bonspiel in Europe for less experienced players, or training camps like the one held during the summer at Zoetermeer in Holland – or competitive challenges in Scotland. All teams are accompanied by a suitable qualified responsible adult.
So - lots of opportunities to have fun while learning this fabulous sport - get playing...get winning...get inspired!!
