About Friends Of Purwell Ninesprings Nature Reserve

Purwell Ninesprings Nature reserve is an Oasis of tranquility full of wildlife. It is run by Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust.

Friends Of Purwell Ninesprings Nature Reserve Description

The reserve has been a wetland since pre-Roman times. A Roman Villa once stood on rising ground to the east of Gypsy Lane. The springs provided fresh water and the wetland birds, particularly Herons.

For centuries, willows have been coppiced for basket making and fencing. This practice has recently been carried to a number of the hazels on Gypsy Lane.

The reserve is made up of various habitats that attracts different wildlife, from the reed beds, to the mature woodland, from water voles to little egrets, there is always something interesting to see.

You can access the reserve from either the Purwell Lane end or Wymondly road end of Gypsy Lane.
