About Gallery Cafe

StMargaretsLDNŌĆ¼ ŌĆśs nŌĆ¼ot-for-profit ŌĆ¼vegan community caf├®.

Interested in hosting an event? We'd love to hear from you! programme@stmargaretshouse.org. uk.

Gallery Cafe Description

The Gallery Cafe first opened its doors in 2006 and is St MargaretŌĆÖs HouseŌĆÖs largest in-house community project.

As well as offering low-cost vegan dishes, locally-ground coffees, vegan sweet treats, and healthy juices, we also host an exciting programme of live events and monthly art exhibitions from up-and-coming artists.

During summer weekends, you can bask in the sunshine on our sun- trap terrace and back garden, whilst spending the rest of the year getting cosy inside the cafe with nice music, friendly faces, and access to speedy Wi-Fi.

It's also an exciting time for us as we'll be going fully vegan by the end of the year, switching out our dairy milks for plant-based ones!

Hello friends ŌśĆ’ĖÅ We're closing early today, with the kitchen shutting at 4.30pm and the cafe at 5pm. But that still gives you plenty of time to come cool down with an ice coffee!

"Veganism is no longer a niche market in the UK - it has gone mainstream." We're so pleased to see that London is the most #vegan friendly city!

We loved the first PLATFORMS event! This brilliant non-profit gives underground artists a platform to showcase their art, and we got to see some of the best emerging photographers, with their work taking over our walls for the night ¤ōĖ And the money raised from the night went to mental heath charity Happy Space UK. "Making this print, I was thinking about raising my three year old son and how to bring up a boy as a feminist and wanting to instil respect and equality and empathy and conscientiousness in him."
Katie Beck made her print at Portable Print Studio's workshop back in March. This workshop took place at our sister project The Create Place for Women's Month, and we're so pleased to have it up in our walls as part of our current exhibition that's celebrating this wonderful arts space. We've loved opening up our garden to St Margaret's House's weekly tai-chi sessions! Happening every Wednesday from 7.30-8.30am, this class is about building stability, balance and strength in the body.
It's suitable for everyone, from complete beginners to more experienced practitioners, so why don't you pop along? It's the chance to catch some rays in our garden while helping your mind and your body with this meditative martial art. And it's just ┬Ż5 for a drop in session ŌśĆ’ĖÅ...
Come along to the class then pop in for our Full English or superfood breakfast bowl if you're after the perfect morning!

It's the perfect day for our Gallery Burger (because which day isn't?)
The burger is made with black beans, mushrooms and British quinoa, and then topped with cheese, red onion jam and burger sauce. It also comes with crisp lettuce and tomato; served with homemade fries or salad ¤śŹ¤śŹ

Unfortunately, IF have had to cancel their third summer lecture on Inequality, which was due to take place at St Margaret's House on Thursday 19th July.
Their lecturer has had to withdraw following a minor accident and, because of the short time frame, there will sadly not be a replacement lecture on the 19th.
But IF will be back here in September, running a free eight-week course titled 'Inequality: A Brief History', which you can find out more about here: www.ifproject.co.uk/inequality.

"It was all delicious! Whist eating it, we both agreed that if you gave those pancakes to a non-vegan and didnŌĆÖt tell them that they were, thereŌĆÖs no chance they would be able to tell. Issey said that they were one of her favourite meals of the trip!"
Thank you so much to 'But Being Vegan Is Boring Though' for featuring us in their week of vegan eats in London - we hope we proved that being vegan most definitely isn't boring ¤ÆÜ¤Äē¤śŹ

We stayed in Bethnal Green for a festival over the weekend and The Gallery Cafe came up on our search for a vegan breakfast. We liked it so much that we went back the second morning, too. Food and drinks all top notch. Between us over the two days we had avocado toast, the full English breakfast and pancakes with fruit plus coffee and mocha. Staff were friendly and it was lovely to sit in the garden. Will definitely be back.

User

Such a lovely cafe with good space inside as well as a nice front garden with a good quantity of benches. I had the vegan burger, which was the best I've had. Really pleasant atmosphere and lovely staff. Thank you.

User

So happy the Gallery cafe have gone vegan!!! Well done! LetŌĆÖs hope more will learn from your example- that compassionate eating is not a compromise on taste- itŌĆÖs the opposite!

My friend and I were in London for Veg Fest UK on Saturday 21 Oct. We walked to Bethnall Green from Euston especially to eat brunch at The Gallery Cafe. We were not disappointed, lovely friendly staff, super quick service and the menu range was amazing, such a wide choice and not expensive at all. Our meals were delicious, we had Turmeric Lattes, Avocado on toast, the superfood Oat Bowl and Choc and Banana Pancakes. Portion sizes were brilliant too - big! Just how I like my meal :) Thank you Gallery Cafe for making our London visit fabulous !!! We will be back x

User

Lovely cafe with friendly staff and delicious, cruelty-free food. We need more places like this in London. Highly recommended.

User

It's fun to come and have coffee in a place where you can eat everything.

Nice atmosphere, interesting and nice staff.

A warm family feeling.

The food is a little expensive in my opinion.

User

Had a super great vegan full English breakfast at the Gallery Cafe with two amazing white chocolate and almonds cookies. The staff was very kind and prices are not too high. Cool place.

User

Great vegan breakfast and service!

User

Good vegan food, coffee and juices. St Margaret's House is a great community-orientated initiative with events and good vibes :) I hosted a documentary screening in the chapel and it was perfect for our needs. Definitely recommend.

User

From a slightly different perspective, the performer's side.

I have performed there with my contemporary jazz band and it's a great venue for alternative arty music with all the paintings exhibition and like minded audience. Was just the perfect atmosphere.

User

Eat here all the time! Love it, they always mix up with the menu and never had a bad meal. Staff are friendly too ’┐Į

Food and coffee was great! Simple, hearty meals done well. The seating in the courtyard out the back was perfect for a sunny Saturday morning brunch. I agree with other reviews that the till service was a bit slow and unfriendly but the overall experience was positive.

User

Absolutely loved the spaghetti special it was delicious and so nice to sit in the garden ¤ī▒¤ī▒¤ī▒ unfortunately the staff were so unfriendly and it felt like the customer is an inconvenience! Such a shame because its otherwise such a lovely place

User

The food is fantastic! Really delicious hot chocolate and the vegan burger was so flavourful. The only let down for us was how we were served at the till. Our server could have been a bit more polite and friendly as she was serving us. Felt like she really didn't want to be there. What a shame.

User

I value the choice to offer a vegetarian (now turning vegan :-) ) menu, the atmosphere and the programme of events. But the menu is sadly off limits for people with coeliac disease, even if there are items listed as gluten free -and that is the real problem : the information is misleading and thus potentially very dangerous. When asked, the staff give contradictory answers as to what is suitable and what isn't. Fries are listed as gf but I was told that everything is fried in the same oil so they are obviously contaminated and thus not suitable for coeliacs. It would be nice if the staff was trained to cater for us coeliacs too. Until then, the misleading info on the menu must be corrected.

User

Food is excellent. Environment is lovely. Music is normally lovely chilled out. Shame the free WiFi internet is generally not working. Terrible WiFi.

’┐Į WiFi not working zone . Very annoying ’┐Į

We travelled across London to try the highly rated vegan brunch and were sorely disappointed. The staff and coffee were lovely but the full English was terribly bland. No seasoning on the potatoes, the tomatoes sauce in the beans was tangy and unfinished, the tofu scramble was raw in places and lacked any salt, tomatoes again unseasoned, dry toast, and mushrooms deep fried and oily. Such a shame as the space is so lovely and it's great to see places pushing vegan food. But would never bring a meat eating friend here to show off the joys of plant based food, as it really doesn't do the best it should!

User

I have been here 3 times in the last month. The first time I was jumping with joy that I have such a good place in my area. the fry up was amazing as well as the fresh juice and teapig tea. Second time came for the same but they ran out of the tofu scramble and apparently tomatoes as well so I basically got potatoes, beans and mushrooms.. this time I had just got the most disappointing 'grilled vegetable' vegan wrap. It had 3 mushroom pieces, some green spinach thing and a whole lot of quinoa. Tasteless, small, no sides for 7.50. They just lost a customer.

Oh, and nost of the staff are rude.
