The staff are incredibly polite & the service is second to none! We left some belongings behind on Father's Day & the manageress kept them in her office until mid August when she recognised us & returned them. Food quality/portions are amazing at both breakfast & dinner. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Really lovely meal x I had potato skins with cheese and chive they were superb and then go Yankee chicken with sweet potatoe fries which was delicious I did find the bacon very salty but I'm not a salt lover the portion was very large so couldn't finish it . The waiter was friendly and attentive so I would go again overall nice clean restaurant and the toilets were clean and smelt really nice too.

My wife and I came here tonight for the first time. We were greeted kindly by a man called Daniel he sat us down in a booth he allowed us to choose, gave us our menus and left us to have a look over, shortly after he came over to take our drinks order, after we received some lovely milkshakes, we opted to go for skins and garlic bread for starters and both chose different chicken main meals.

Everything we received was lovely and amazing with so many flavours. We found ourselves regretting the lovely milkshakes and tasty starters as we left so much of our main meal due to being full.

Our service from Daniel was amazing he's very polite and attentive and a credit to the restaurant. We were disappointed to see how empty the restaurant was considering everything was spot on. Maybe it's the location, that being said being quiet made for a relaxing meal.

I hope others find this little gem soon.

My partner and I normally eat at a variety of different restaurants and leave our honest views so here's ours on our recent visit..



Unlike the other reviews can not complain! 4 adults and 3 children



6 meals, 6 drinks, 4 of which Pepsi refills (which were refilled approx 4 times each at least) 1 starter and 1 dessert £97



How can you really complain?



Great service great venue great food! Even the toilets were up to high standards and down to even the quality toilet paper and toiletries available by the sink



Frankly nothing to complain about, we had a 8 week baby with us and asked for hot water to warm the bottle, at first granted the staff were slightly miffed but they catered greatly and kept our requests met.



There's even games available to play, uno Jenga etc etc, kids packs were given out, balloons available



We shall be back for sure.

Me and my friends visited this place last Saturday and wow! The whole time we were looked after by an extremely friendly and professional waitress(assuming she is the manager-different uniform). All I can say is I have never seen a waitress/ manager working so hard and making sure everything was ok with our meal. She made sure our order was taken correctly and having our mains arriving after the starters within a little break. We left with our bellies filled up :) and happy. Considering our party not being the only one (the staff was running their feets of), the food came out on time and the service was on point. The portions are huge! You certainly get what you pay for. We'll definitely be coming back soon! Especially for those burgers ribs! :)

I went to GC with my partner and 2 year old before Xmas, the staff were amazing so kind and patient, the young lady who was our waitress was running around with my little girl and kept talking to her as the restaurant was totally empty, the food was cooked perfectly, I had a rare steak and I’m fussy about how my steak is cooked! Will definitely be going back when I can! No complaints whatsoever!

Had our company late Christmas meal here. 38 of us, fantastic food, great portions , and good prices. Will definately be returning with the company and with family. I would whole heartedly recommend this restuarant and great staff. Thank you guys for a wonderful evening x

Great food, and very accommodating staff (Alex) ohr server was very friendly! Would definitely recommend the breakfast!

Came into the restaurant last night with my two children, everyone was so welcoming and friendly with them, our waiter Alex went above & beyond to make our evening so spectacular! The food was spot on, everything we ordered came out perfectly with a very short wait! Will definitely be coming back soon!�

Came here for breakfast with a very large group for my birthday. Our table and our area of the restaurant had been decorated with balloons and banners which was a lovely touch. Considering we were such a large group with several children and various special requests the service was exceptional. The food was really good and the staff were great with the children. We were surprised it was quite empty, hidden gem maybe? Highly recommended.

Alex was lovely ! We got there just in time before they were closing their breakfast offering, he helped us choose the right options and quantities and we were left pleasantly satisfied for our first time in Colchester! Would definitely come back, thank you!

9 of us went for a Christmas meal on the evening of 16th December, this has got to be the best Christmas meal I have had out ever. Portions where more than generous and it was all quality - no Aunt Bessies here! We where more than looked after, such a shame it seemed a bit quiet as I think if everyone knew of the quality they would be queuing round the block. Highly recommended.

The food was fine and we did not have to wait any longer than the predicted 15 minutes. However it is not cheap and, similarly to the person who has a Taste Card, I have a Gourmet Society Card and they are not accepting them either. We had contacted the Gourmet Society, after booking and prior to our arrival, and was told that the card should be accepted during the notice period. We mentioned this on arrival but did not have any joy! Probably will not go again.

Went for a family meal for the father in laws birthday when we arrived our waiter was very nervous nearly spilling our drinks the we ordered food when it came nearly an hour later started eating a couple of people on the table had finished there meal he came over and started clearing the table when there was still people eating at the table witch is very rood

We booked a family meal here for tonight, only to arrive and the place was closed for refurbishment. Maybe you shouldnt take bookings if you know you wont be open.

First visit last night and it will be my last staff very friendly but well overpriced,waited far too long for my food and when food came out fries well overcooked and crispy,for mains I ordered the steak and cheese cooked in philly sub? It was a small hot dog roll with a bit of steak and melted cheese on top it!

Slow service even when the place is empty just about warm chips. This is the second time I have had bad service never again. Love the Basildon Restaurant maybe the staff just go over for some training

Not happy -- Tastecard declined -- They are telling customers the tastecard has stopped as of their Head Office instructions as of Wednesday 15th Feb . However, after we visited on Thursday 15th we were not told this until we went to pay. Only then were we shown a small piece of paper by a lady, who then placed it back on top of the welcome desk. Now, you'd see this if you stand there and wait for a table on arrival, though when we walked through the door and were immediately taken to a booth so we never see this notice. On calling Tastecard Friday morning, I was told their Head Office ( Grand Central ) has to give Tastecard 30 days notice and they clearly haven't done this, I was also told by the lady at Tastecard there is nothing on the system to say they are pulling out of Tastecard. She couldn't apologise enough and I've had to send a copy of my receipt over to them. Currently, waiting for a response from Tastecard and this can take upto 5 days. Won't eat here again as prices are silly, but with tastecard 2 for 1 it's fine. Never busy and always tables available.
