Grantham 1 racket ball team welcomed the mighty Spalding tonight in a clash that would see both teams wanting the points to help secure play off positions in the Lincolnshire racket ball league.
It proved to be a well fought match from both sides with Mark Truman taking the first match 3-0 for Grantham against Gary Slator. Mark Oakes fought well for Grantham finding himself game ball up in two games but he couldnā€™t see the finishing line with his opponent, Josh Jenkins stayin...g consistent with some power driving shots. Josh winning 3-0. The match is now tied at 3-3. Last on was Nigel Truman against Clyde Finch for the decider. Nigel came out of the traps fast and strong with Clyde edging closer and closer but the shots were working on the night for Nigel and he came out a 3-0 winner.
Grantham beat Spalding 9-3 which puts them 2nd in the league. One more win on the last match will see them secure the play off places which are being hosted at Grantham on the 28th August and 4th September, more information on this will follow soon.
Well played Grantham and to Spalding, a great night of racket ball.

tonight saw a thrilling local derby with Grantham 1 playing Grantham 2 at racketball. the first match up was a cracking marathon with paul barker smith from Grantham 1 finally edging out John Shepherd 11-4, 9-11 9-11 11-7 11-7. Next up was an age mismatch but certainly not a racketball mismatch with Pete banks from Grantham 2 shading Louie Truman 6-11 11-2 11-9 11-7 in a well fought game. all to play for in the last and Kevin strutt gave his all but found nigel Truman too strong and nigel sealed the match for the first team 11-3, 11-7, 11-7. Grantham 2 now have 2 successive away matches beginning with long trip to Gainsborough next thursday

Grantham 2nd racketball team played a must win game against Boston 2 last night in their quest to qualify for the top 8 play offs. Sadly the pressure got to them - they went down fighting but lost all 3 matches by a 0-3 score . Pete Banks lost to Graham Quigley (6,8,8), John Shepherd lost to Katie Price (6,5,8) and damian McEntegart lost to Brett Perkins (4,3,3). Its now the last chance saloon to make the play offs - next game up is the local derby against Grantham 1 next Thursday at 7.30. Come and watch a giant-killingšŸ˜€šŸ˜€!

The Grantham racket ball team was represented last night by the Trumanā€™s away to Horncastle. Both teams were looking to add to their tally of points in the league that go towards finishing in the playoff positions.
Louie Truman was first on at the ripe old age of 10 years against Jason Tingle. It was clear from the warm up that Jason was the stronger player, however, Louie showed his skills he has learnt from squash in some closely fought rallies. Louie took to the bounce of ...a racket ball well and the match saw some long rallies. The points were close in the games but Jason came out best with a 3-0 win. Many thanks to Jason for giving Louie a great game played in good spirits and nice to see both players coming off having a great workout (see Louieā€™s face on the above picture). Horncastle 3-0 up.
Mark Truman stepped on at no.2 against Jason Hadaland. This match was fierce with both players generating even more heat from the speed of hitting the ball from what was already a very hot court. It was a nail bitting match with points going to the wire on each game but Mark kept his composure and came out a 3-0 winner. Grantham 3 Horncastle 3.
The deciding match at no.1 had Nigel Truman playing Katie Wells. This match saw some tight shots in and calculating counter attacks. Each player took turns in winning points but Nigel saw the finishing line first in each of the 3 games. It was very close with both players coming up with some worthy winning shots but it was Nigel that came out a 3-0 winner in a closely fought match.
Grantham won 9-3. Well played to both teams and many thanks to Horncastle for being excellent hosts.
Next week the team play our other racket ball team on Thursday at home which promises to be a great night.

Well after an epic night of team racket ball last night we have only just received the report as the matches went on for so long. Well done to both Grantham 1 and Boston 1 for proving the spectators with some mouth watering racket ball. Boston started as league leaders with Grantham one place below.
Nigel Truman was first on court playing for Grantham against Sam Booth of Boston for the no.1 seeds. Both players have met before with some classic encounters and this was another... one of those. It had long rallies, good retrieving and some very well worked shots. After an hour and a half Sam came out on top winning 3-2. Boston were in front.
Coming in at no.2 seed for Grantham was Graeme Williamson against Hedley of Boston. The odds were stacked against Graeme, he had just completed a mamouth Spartan event at the weekend (well done GraemešŸ‘) and his normal racket is a squash racket. However after a few rallies it looked like Graeme was really in the game counter acting Hedleyā€™s fine touch shots. After more long rallies and excellent racket ball the pair were locked at 2=2. Hedley had match ball at 10=7 but the home support saw Graeme finish is amazing style and fight for a 3-2 win. Both teams now at 5-5.
Paul Barker Smith stepped in after a long wait to get onto court for Grantham. Paulā€™s game is very much Squash but due to some players being unavailable he did a magnificent job of being our no.3. Paul met John Giggs who came on court with one thing in mind, hard and fast racket ball hitting. Paul did a great job to counter attack this pace but the difference from squash to racket ball proved too much to a very strong no.3. John won 3-0 and Boston won 11-5.
The result still keeps Grantham second in the league as it stands with every bit of chance of staying in the play offs.
Well played Grantham and congratulations to Boston for the win, it was a pleasure hosting the Boston team.
The next match is next Wednesday away to Horncastle.

last night saw another plucky display from the Grantham racketball second team away to Metheringham 2. I say plucky as both John Shepherd (#2) and Pete banks (#3) took the third game after losing the first two games fairly easily. Unfortunately their opponents both stepped it up and took the third game. damian McEntegart lost the first 2 games quite heavily but the third game was much closer once he realised he was playing racketball and not tennisšŸ˜€. next up is Boston 2nd team at home on Thursday 26th July at 7.30

Well done to Grantham 1 racket ball team tonight. They travelled to Metheringham to play their 1st team and Grantham won 11-3.šŸ˜Š
Mark Oakes started the ball rolling winning his match 3-0 followed by Mark Truman and a few of his winning boast shots, again winning 3-0. The last match saw Nigel Truman battle out a 5 setter, having had 4 match balls in his hands he couldnā€™t convert and his opponent, Russ Watkins came out a 3-2 winner.
Many thanks to Metheringham for being excellen...t hosts and playing some great racket ball.
The win for Grantham tonight should see the team stay in the playoff positions.
The next match is a home game next Tuesday against Boston 1.

Grantham 1 racket ball team hosted Eastgate 1 tonight having rearranged the fixture due to the England match on Tuesday. This was set to be a great match between the two teams with both having good recent forms.
On first for Grantham was Mark Oakes at no.3 against Ollie Hughes. Mark taking the first game 11-4, the second 11-6 so a great start. The third game saw Mark at match ball, 11-10, however Ollie wasnā€™t stopping his pace. Ollie won the third game and then continued his ...stride to win the match 3-2. First match to Eastgate. Good racket ball from both players, especially with the heat.
Mark Truman stepped on at no.2 against Richard Ashby. It was definitely Markā€™s night at racket ball tonight with everything going his way. The first game he won 11-4, the second 11-7 and the third 11-5. Richard played well but couldnā€™t match the winning shots of Mark. This left the scores Grantham 5 Eastgate 3.
Last on was Nigel Truman against Ryan Bond at no.1. Some punishing low tight shots had Nigel taking the first game 11-8. It continued into the second game with Nigel now 2-0 up. Ryan is known for his fitness and his ability to stay in a match and come back to win from being behind. Well he kept going to clinch the third game 13-11 surviving match ball. A rethink from Nigel in the fourth game brought more thought into his shots because energy levels were running low. This gave Nigel a 5-0 boost to then see the fourth being won 11-5 by Nigel. A fantastic game of racket ball and credit to Ryan for battling until the end. Nigel won 3-1.
Grantham won overall 11-4. Well done team.
Thank you for the support from our Thursday night doubles players, it was much appreciated.
All games were played in good spirits and it was a pleasure to host the Eastgate team.
Next week the team travel to top of the table Metheringham.

well done to the Grantham racketball 2nd team who won their first match tonight. Pete Banks beat Dawn Wells 3-0 (11-5, 11-7, 11-6). Dawn had gamely stepped in at the last minute. Kevin Strutt beat Lynne Hannan 3-0 (11-6, 11-4,11-5). Unfortunately Damian McEntegart couldn't complete the clean sweep with Danny Wells being far too strong (2-11, 3-11, 4-11). All were good and enjoyable games. Next up is Eastgate 4 away on Monday so lets hope England draw but get a lot of players booked against Belgium so they don't play that night! šŸ˜€

Well done to all the juniors who took part in the friendly tonight against Horncastle juniors. A big thanks to Martin Wells for organising a team last minute. All matches were really close with the eventual winners Horncastle winning 16-13. All games were played in great spirit with some good squash overall. We are looking forward to the away leg ! šŸ‘

This club is perfect for our family, my wife and I play racketball and squash, our 6 year old Son is into his second year of squash coaching which is excellent. We can't keep him off the court. This is a very well run club, very friendly and it is a great part of our life.:-)

Its my second home!

I only used to play socially every now and then.

After moving to Melton from down South, I lost my playing partners so decided to join Grantham Squash Club.

This was a great move for my squash. I had a few lessons with Martin and now I play every week and love it.

Highly recommend it for players of all abilities.

Great way to learn the game, get better or be ultra competitive if you want to.

People here are very welcoming and friendly.
