Today we took 15 crews to the Lea for their spring Regatta. Many of our crews did well, winning their heats to make it to the final despite the blustery remains of Storm Hannah making it difficult to row in a straight line at times! Four of our crews beat the competition to win their events: the women's four, women's quad, men's double and men's single. These four wins, and more near misses, at the club's first race of the season are a promising start to the rowing year ahead.
Thank you to all our rowers, coxes, drivers and supporters for your help and enthusiasm on what was a long day! We'll see you again at Peterborough in June.

The last stroke! 🎉🎉
This weekend we rowed for 48 hours straight, with 50 of our rowers taking part to reach a grand total of 601,856 metres or 374 miles!
We've alro raised over £2,500 towards our target to get our eight back on the water and get more young people involved in rowing.
... Thank you to all our rowers supporters and helpers over the last few days - and if you fancy helping us a little more our fundraising page is still open!
Well done all!

Good morning! After a long night of rowing, we're getting close to the half a million metres mark with 6 hours to go until the end of our 48 hour row. We're very much looking forward to the end and seeing how much our fabulous rowers have raised! https://wonderful.org/fundraiser/48hourro w-8811d13c

At 32 hours and 400,000 metres down, even the ergos are getting a bit tired - but we're still here until 3pm tomorrow rowing to raise the money to get our eight out on the water and full of new rowers! https://wonderful.org/fundraiser/48hourro w-8811d13c

Nearly 22 hours in and we are over quarter of a million metres down - but with plenty more to go before tomorrow!
Any support to help us through the next quarter of a million would be brilliant!

And we are off! Three hours into our 48 hour row and the evening has been made more exciting by the delivery of Neptune - the refurbishment of which tonight's row is helping to fund!
If you'd like to help us get a bit closer to our goal, you still can donate at https://wonderful.org/fundraiser/48hourro w-8811d13c

This time next Sunday we'll be approaching the last few hours of our 48 hour row, which is raising money to help get more young people out on the river. There's still time to sponsor us at https://wonderful.org/fundraiser/48hourro w-8811d13c and help make those miles go a little easier!

This March our members are rowing for 48 hours straight to raise desperately needed funds to repair and replace some of our equipment and allow us to get more people enjoying themselves on the river. We'd be really grateful for any support via https://wonderful.org/fundraiser/48hourro w-8811d13c

7 teams of four took on our 8,000 metre relay challenge earlier this month, racing against each other to claim the title of fastest crew on land. With teams from across the Gravesend river community, it was also a night for getting to know some of the skiff and cutter rowers we share the water with. The Port of London Authority team proved to be the fastest men, with one of the Gravesend Rowing Club teams taking the win for fastest ladies. Well done to all our competitors, and we look forward to seeing you all next time!

Congratulations to all our members who were presented with prizes by the Mayor of Gravesham at last night's Presentation Dinner, celebrating a year of success on and off the water.
In 2018 Gravesend RC entered 80 crews into races ranging from the Danson Dashes to the Fours Head and Junior Inter Regional Regatta, with 12 wins across our squads. Last night we celebrated some of our rowers' achievements in boats (with trophies for the most successful pairs, fours and singles) and on ergos (with prizes for adult and junior indoor rowing). We also thanked members of the club who work hard behind the scenes week in and week out to keep everything running smoothly for the rest of us.
Well done everyone, and here's to an even more successful 2019, beginning with Greenwich Head in the new year.

Saturday 3 November marked our last race of a record year, with two crews entered into the Fours Head of the River Race. Both crews did well, with some strong performances finishing off a successful year of racing for Gravesend.
This year we have entered 80 crews into races - the largest number in a very long time - ranging from national junior inter-regionals to our own Danson Dashes. We've had 48 different members race for us across 10 different events, and 12 crews bring ...home prizes (some of whom are featured below).
As we recover from the last race of the year we'd like to say thank you to all our rowers, parents, committee members, supporters and everyone else who has supported us this year - and well done!
Now the hard work to build on our success for next year begins...!

Congratulations to our junior-senior ladies on their win at Medway Head today!
Our older juniors have been training with the adults for the last year, and the step up has paid off with our J17 ladies taking a win in the coxed quad at Medway Head over 5km today.
Our senior women and men's crews also competed, both taking third place in their categories (women's coxed fours and men's coxless quads).
... This was our penultimate race of the year - after a successful season we're hoping for a strong finish at the Fours Head of the River on 3 November, and look forward to seeing some of our hardier supporters there.

This Sunday we braved the pouring rain to race at Maidstone, for the first head race of the season. Despite the soggy weather we saw a number of our new rowers and juniors take part in their first race, all making it successfully to the finish line.
As the last division lined up, the sun came out and our senior men's double raced to victory, taking home the prize for the fastest men's double of the day.
Well done to all our competitors, especially our newest racers, and congratulations to Matt and Henry on their win!

*****Results/thank you for today’s Higham Buoy Handicap Row*****
Thank you to those who took part in today’s Higham Buoy Handicap Race hosted by Gravesend Rowing Club. We hope you enjoyed the row and were able to spend a bit of time, in the Club afterwards, relaxing/socialising with other rowers.
The weather was certainly kind to us again and we were so pleased that we were able to be outside for the BBQ etc. We’re really sorry if the food had run out before you got to it... but these things are so difficult to judge for catering purposes, especially with friends/spectators being an unknown number.
We had intended to pop outside and say thank you to everyone who took part today, meet all our visitors, announce the results and thank all our helpers. Unfortunately, things ‘went a little crazy’ at the bar for drinks/food orders and time slipped away from us.
So, I have pleasure in attaching copies (in the comments) of the results boards posted around the Club plus a summary sheet, with start times, handicaps, finish times and have added the ‘actual’ time rowing with the difference of each crew from the first finisher. Hope it all make sense and you can also find the basic race which I timed on an app here too..
http://www.webscorer.com/race?pid=1&r aceid=149366
Finally, thank you to Chris Wynn (Palmer Marine Ltd) for providing the support for the larger vessels and Caitlin Page (GRC) for the Club boats, Liam Vine for being chef on the BBQ, all of you for entering and Mark Smith/Rachel Hedley for organising the Thames Green Bottles crew etc, plus rowing here and back, to take part.
We hope to hold it again next year and that you can come along - in the meantime, Good Luck for your future rowing.
Best regards
Sue/Steve

Success at Danson Dashes 2018!
After many years away, this year Gravesend RC worked with Erith RC to bring back the Danson Dashes. We had 18 crews take part, including two for whom this was their first race after only taking up rowing earlier this year. At the end of the day four crews took home prizes for winning their categories - our men's double, women's four, junior women's quad, and Masters A single were all awarded their prizes by the Mayor and Mayoress of Bexley.
Well done to all our rowers, and a big thank you to all those members, parents and friends of the club who came along and helped make the day a success

Congratulations to our J18 boys on their win at Sudbury Regatta on Saturday 4 August - a first for the boys' quad, and our first junior boat win of the year.
A big well done to our other crews who raced at Sudbury too, including our Captain in the men's single and ladies four who both won their heats to make it to the finals, only to lose out on the tankards for their events. And a special well done to Hope, who not only coxed the men to victory but did a superb job coxing our novice ladies around the tricky Sudbury bends that saw so many other crews crash spectacularly into the banks!
Thanks to all our supporters on the day - see you on the 18th at Danson Dashes!
