CrossFit 1971 Stratford is the vision of best friends Dan Aldridge and Martin Flanagan – Two ex HM Forces Commandos and Army Physical Training Instructors who’s passion and attention to detail makes their coaching second to none.

1. Why did you start training at CrossFit 1971?
After many attempts at going to the gym consistently without having a clue what I was doing or trying to achieve, I was over being the girl pretending to work out. By luck, I walked past the Crystal Palace box one day and saw people mid WOD, I was intimidated, but also very intrigued.... So I (well my hubby) did some research and found Crossfit 1971 with the aim of joining to lose some weight and become stronger. That was 3 years ago... I'm still working on the same objectives.. but I'm certainly far from where I started 🙂
2. What do you enjoy most about your sessions?
Tough question, there is a lot that I enjoy, but I suppose what I like most is that I can be myself and work out with motivated people. At the risk of sounding fluffy, the sessions are the one place where my brain completely switches off and I am able to focus on one thing, learn and improve.
3. What is your favourite class and why?
Strongman is defo my favourite class, it is challenging to say the least, it is a practical example that most things are "mind over matter" and who doesn't like lifting awkward objects off the ground, plus the Coaches are great 😊

1. Why did you start training at CrossFit 1971?
... I was getting bored going to a regular gym and didn't really know how to plan a workout, so didn't really apply myself to fitness. I had seen CrossFit getting more popular and thought it would be a good thing to start afresh with.
2. What do you enjoy most about your sessions?
I really love the community here. Even though it's rare for me to change my schedule, I feel that if I were to take a class at a different time I would get the same level of encouragement and support from my classmates.
3. What is your favourite class and why?
I really love conditioning classes. I know I'm not going to be the strongest in the gym, but I know that my stamina has got a lot better during long workouts which helps me with longer runs outside of crossFit.

Our take on flexibility vs mobility
Being flexible is the ability to move your joint through it's full range of motion.
Mobility is having enough range of motion to get in a particular position while under load for example an overhead.
... At CrossFit 1971 we aim to improve both as being a yoga Jedi doesn't always translate to being a good weightlifter 😎

Party time for our winning team💃
During the 5 weeks of the CrossFit Open we hosted and inter competition where our members where placed into teams. The members got points for their team for turning up on Friday Night Lights, being in the Open and awesome lol! 😎
CrossFit 1971 are now hosting a private party to the Winning Team for making this years CrossFit Open so much fun.

❤️Murph for Crisis ❤️
Join Dannie-Lu Carr and the CrossFit 1971 members Saturday 30th 8am who are doing the famous CrossFit hero workout Murph.
Which consists of a one mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 air squats, another one mile run. Traditionally this is done in a weighted vest but you can do any variation of it that suits you.
... Dannie is raising money for Crisis. The national charity for homelessness.
We have extended the class numbers to 30 for this event 8am- 9am. You can book in via your team up as normal.
