Even though he has ongoing injuries and had already qualified for the Europeans and Worlds Master, nothing stopped Atteridge to keep enjoying his passion, weightlifting. He got 40kg, 43kg snatch and unfairly was rulled out 45kg. 55kg, 60kg C&J, cleaned 64kg but missed the jerk. Next stop is Finland, the European Masters in June.

With the advent of the New Year, it is nice to see how people have new desires and goals, especially with their health and wellbeing. However, sooner or later personal commitments and poor attention to the body’s needs can cause these goals and aspirations to be set back or lost sight of.
If there is one thing that Hackney coaches and members learn from Head Coach Patrick Atteridge, it is to BELIEVE that over time whatever you wish for can be achieved with the right attitude,... visualisation, and dedication.
There are no miracles necessary; just hard work throughout the year, managing your agenda the best way you can and enjoying every training session with a focus on the big picture.
If you want to be a Believer, then get down to Hackney.
A massive thanks to @Shogo Hino for this amazing piece of work and as always @antpearce for his contribution to HWLC

After a great trip to the Cork Open 2018, Team HWC are recovering and building for next year, the journey doesn't stop!
We had such an enjoyable experience at this well run competition and we'd like to make a thankful shoutout to Cork Weightlifting Club for their amazing work. We are sure to be back next year, and we may have to hire a tour bus next time as Team HWC grows!!

An injury to his shoulder did not allow him to train with heavy weight since Barcelona. Even not knowing if he was going able to compete, Coach Pat showed the Hackney lifters that this is a mental sport. When he saw he could finish first in his body weight category he said "game is on", snatching 41kg and C&J 63kg and also finishing first! Well done and now road to the Southern Masters in November.

Finally the day is approaching and HWLC members could not be more excited to see the premier of Gwendolyn's film at Vue Picadilly on 27th September and 1st October!! Gwendolyn is a lecturer, an author, a mother, a wife, a weightlifter and a cancer survivor... a trully strong woman. We invite everyone to join us and find out how weightlifting, Hackney Weightlifting Club and especially Coach Pat serve as a therapy in Gwendolyn's life. More screenings are to be announced

It was a tough period for Dana before the Iron Session. Coming back from holidays with a pain in right shoulder meant she couldn’t lift weights over her head for a few weeks. However her determination to keep training with assistant movements and not giving up, took her to get a 2kg PB on the snatch, 32kg in her first sort of competition. Then a C&J of 45kg, for a 77kg total!

After being one year without training consistently on the weightlifting movements, Omari decided to come back and train at Hackney as he is planning to compete in Barbados in November. He has been working on updating his percentages before going onto our training schedule and used the Iron Session to assess where his lifting is and the result was very impressive. 110kg S and 133kg C&J, 5/6 lifts after only one month back training .
Ed added 3kgs to his Snatch (56kg) but as h...e is trying to squat instead of power, which he tends to do at max weights, he got 1kg up on his personal best squat snatch! It has been a long journey with many adjustments to get to this stage. He and the Hackney coaches are very happy how things are going and we know the hard work will pay off in the long term. S: 54kg C&J 66kg

Georgia had her first sort-of competition, doing very well.
With no background in weightlifting, an injured shoulder and only a few Olympic lifting classes under her belt, Georgia had the guts to join our iron session, getting 28kg S and 40kg C. There is a lot of potential in her and coach Daphne is sure that with consistent work this will continue to come through.

Jasmin had her first sort-of competition doing very well. She got PBs in both disciplines, S 34kg and C&J 42kg. She has been working on technical adjustments with coach Daphne and the numbers show it paid off. And just days later in training she added another 3kg to her snatch.

It is always good to have lifters here from other places. On this occasion, Trisha from Jersey and Clare from Scotland came to test their lifting before going to Barcelona for the World Masters Weightlifting Championships. Both Trisha (with a shoulder injury) and Clare (having had recent surgery on her hip) did very well, showing the Hackney crew what you need to have a "no limits" mindset. Trisha: 32kg S, 41kg C&J. Clare: 33kg S, 43kg C&J.
