Through our Youth Farming Initiative, Haller is striving to revolutionise how young people view farming by giving them the agricultural education and resources to earn a livelihood and lead a healthier life.
The Initiative adopts a ground-up approach by reframing sustainable farming, re-engaging the future generation of farmers, and offering real alternatives to unemployment.

Building resources and knowledge! The #Grow stage of the Haller Journey is about building on the resources and knowledge received during Kick-Start, equipping smallholder farmers to practice and benefit from HallerŌĆÖs techniques independently.

At Haller, we have always been conscious about protecting the land we live on. The techniques we implement on the ground are affordable, and sustainable. We teach farmers the importance of climate smart planting, encouraging the use of drought resistant crops and indigenous plants and vegetables.

Access to water is the first step to overcoming poverty so we help communities build wells. They tap into the water table and ensure people have access to drinking water all year round, even in times of drought. Easy access to water increases food production, improves health and reduces time-poverty, particularly for women. It is the basis for better lives.

It is said that developing countries are on the front line against #ClimateChange. At Haller, we teach rural communities climate-smart planting with drought-resistant crops, the importance of growing indigenous vegetables, and how to grow crops sustainably without causing harm to the land that they live on.

Happy Earth Day!
Building Bio Loos occurs at the very start of the Haller Journey. They are an effective, low-tech way of preventing contamination of the water sources we put in place, encouraging basic hygiene practices and improving health.

Agriculture in Kenya's backbone to the economy and also central to the country's development strategy. More than 75% of Kenyans make part of their living in agricutlure although the majority of farmers work without basic agricultural inputs and lack adequate financial services.

At the Haller Foundation, we help local farmers in the provision of water for sustainable agricultural practices. We were delighted to provide our 50th community, Jipe Moyo Marimani with a dam, a well and a fish pond to improve the livelihoods of the individuals living within this community.

58% of the Kenyan population is under the age of 24, while the country suffers from an unemployment rate of 40% (UN HDI 2017.)
To tackle this, Haller launched a Youth Farming Initiative for children in local schools to learn the skills that could enable thousands of young people lead healthier lives and to earn a living.
Currently seven schools are involved in the program, each visiting three times a week, and this year we hope to teach 12 more schools over the next 12 mont...hs.

Dr. Haller believes that people will not protect the environment ŌĆśfor tomorrowŌĆÖ if they do not have food on their plates today. On that basis, we strive to unleash the potential of local economies by promoting a model for development that is both sustainable and environmentally sound.ŌĆØ
