IT'S TIME TO BURN THE EXCUSE BOOK! - says Halo PT Brandon Pierterse @brandz93
It's time to burn the excuse book! You can get that personal best! You can lose those 5 pounds!... You can run that 10 mile! You can do it!
Burn the excuse book and do it! Put out of your mind the phrases “it’s too heavy, too hard, too far” or whatever else has been holding you back. Replace it with thoughts of, “I can do it, I can run that distance, I can lift that weight, I can beat that rep, I can lose that weight because it can be done!” . . . . . #noExcuses #YouCanDoIt #icandoit #havefaith #goforit #burntheexcuses #motivation #fitnessmotivation #fitspo #fitspiration #instafitness #fitnessjourney

5 STEPS TO WARMING UP – with Halo PT Catherine Symons @cs_personaltraining
Let’s face it not many of us make sure we are warming up properly before each training session. Athletes would ensure a proper warm up was done before a session, preventing injury and ensuring they get the most out of their performance, so why don’t we do the same?
STEP 1- GET MOVING... This doesn’t mean you have to step on a treadmill - find something that will get the blood pumping and heart rate elevated a little more such as walking, the bike or the rower. Nothing too strenuous here! . STEP 2- FOAM ROLL Here starting at the calves and working your way up the body we are basically massaging out any tight knots with soft tissue massage. . STEP 3- MOBILISE In this stage we are looking at the range of motion our joints have. If we have good mobility in the ankles, hips and thoracic spine then when it comes to performing an exercise the body doesn’t have to over compensate in areas that could cause injury. . STEP 4- ACTIVATION We want to fire up the working muscles here, getting them ready to work! Of course our muscles are already active otherwise we would be falling over, but this stage simply gets them firing up to then be able to perform each exercise better. Resistance bands are the things to use in this stage! . STEP 5- PRIME Here things such as body weight squats and side lunges can be performed. Getting the neuromuscular signals working, and also mentally preparing for the exercises themselves before piling on the weights. . A warmup doesn’t need to take long- 10 mins max, but it makes a serious difference in mechanics, performance and injury prevention. . For examples of each stage head over to my Instagram account for videos 👍🏻 . . . . . #warmup #getmoving #foamroller #activation #getready #cardio #injuryprevention #WeightTraining #Workout #trainingtips #mondaymotivation

ENJOYING THE PROCESS! – by Halo PT Ryan Hook @ryanhook.pt
Change doesn't happen overnight, especially in the context of body composition. If you have a physique orientated goal, it is GOING to take a substantial amount of time to achieve. That's just something we have to accept.
Because this is the case, I believe that it's so important that we learn to love the PROCESS rather than focusing on how far away we are from the ultimate goal.
... The people I see progressing consistently are the kind of people that fall in love with killing the day to day - the ones that focus on ticking every small box, the ones that get excited about achieving the small things.
Once you start adding these small things up over the course of weeks, months, years... that's when you will progress.
Yes, have a big goal in mind, of course. But realise that in order to get there, you need to focus on the here and now. . . . . #hereandnow #focus #lovetheprocess #enjoyyourself #progress #bodycomposition #physique #physiquecoach #GoalSetting #Fitspo #motivation #fitnesslife @ Halo Gym

BOX JUMPS, with Halo PT Callum Cadney-Moon @cleancoachcal
When I was a young lad in my teenage years, I was massively overweight and incredibly unfit. I came to the realisation that I had to do something about it, and at the age of 18 I finally ended up going to the gym.
It was a daunting process, made harder by the fact I was unable to afford a PT as a poor student.
... As most people do, I struggled starting out and saw little to no progress. Lower body exercises like squats were very tough as form was very difficult to master without help; and that’s when I discovered box jumps.
Starting from just 1 small step, anyone can get into them, and the progress is clear as day as you start making the jump higher and higher. They’re a fantastic way to work the whole body, with a particular focus on building up strength and power in the legs. They were a fundamental exercise in my training as they really helped me to believe I was capable of achieving more.
Give them a go and you won’t be disappointed - you can jump higher than you think! . . . . #boxjumps #boxjump #progress #youcandoit #fullbodyworkout #legday #power #strength #strong #workout #exercise #Fitspo #personaltrainer #personaltraining #coach #gym #tunbridgewells #kent #gymlife #gymtime #igfitness #instafitness

WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH KOMBUCHA? - asks Halo PT Catherine Symons @cs_personaltraining . This quirky looking drink has been around for a long time but has seemed to really step into the limelight most recently, so what’s all the fuss about? . Kombucha is an ancient drink originating from China where it was known for its detoxifying and energising properties. It is made from green and black tea, with white sugar that has been fermented with a type of fungus known as SCOBY. The fe...rmentation is the important part, as it changes the polyphenols into organic compounds which in turn increase the acidity to prevent other micro-organisms growing. . Essentially fermentation contains healthy bacteria which promotes good gut health, improving many functions of the body including mood, cravings and weight management. . Simply only having this probiotic can be useful but to ensure you are able to maintain good gut health a wide variety of healthy foods should be consumed. . . . . #kombucha #detox #energy #healthylifestyle #healthy #supplements #guthealth #weightloss #fitnesslife #motivation

DON'T OVERCOMPENSATE, says Halo PT Brandon Pieterse @brandz93
Let's be honest, we are humans. We are not robots, we are not designed to come in to the gymeveryday, and eat our exact micro and macro nutrients every single day. It is just not how we are asa species.
On occasion we would rather go out with friends and have a nice meal or afew drinks. The question is what should we do about this?
... The answer is real simple - NOTHING!
In the same way that one workout won't get you the body you want, eating a singlesalad won't instantly drop your body fat by 10%; one night won't ruin your diet, it won't make youfat, it won’t undo all you hard work.
Go out and enjoy yourself, but just remember that consistency is the key - consistently have that onebad night and it will undo all your hard work!
Stress less.It is all about making fitness fit into your lifestyle. . . . . . #worryless #stressless #lifestyle #fitnesslifestyle #fitnesslife #fitnesslife #nutrition #diet #enjoyyourself #lovelife #gymmotivation

HALO YOGA! SATURDAY MORNINGS 8.00-8.50am - with @yogawithtabitha
Our yoga classes are FREE for members, and just £9 per class for non-members. Here's a few words from Tabitha:
Great class last Saturday! Here we were focusing on warrior pose, strengthening the lower body as well as opening up the hips and building flexibility.... • Warrior pose is known for building physical as well as emotional feelings of strength • When your front knee is bent, check you can see your big toe! If not, engage your glutes on your leading leg to help track the knee further out to the side! This keeps the knee in a safe position and helps you to get the most from your practise! • Without changing the position of your front knee, then start to work on opening the hips, keeping them facing outwards rather than forwards. • Finally, take the arms up to shoulder height. • Hold this pose for 8-10 slow breaths, focusing your attention on the breath to help you hold the pose for longer rather than giving in and stopping • Next week’s class is at the same time, 8:00 - 8:50 Saturday morning! • See you on the mat! . . . . . #yogaclasses #yoga #yogi #yogini #yogateacher #yogaeverydamnday #yogaposes #yogainspiration #yogaeveryday #fitness #fitnessmotivation #balance #mindfulness #strength #flexibility #healthylifestyle #gymmotivation #gymlife #yogalove #yogalife #tunbridgewells #kent #yogapractice #strongnotskinny @ Halo Gym

DO YOU NEED TO TRACK CALORIES? Halo PT Andy Hillocks @andyhillocksfit discusses
I’m going to give you a typical fitness response right now and say it depends.
The reason I say this isbecause it completely depends on where you are on your fitness journey. If you understand carbs, fats and protein, you can gauge how many calories are in a meal by looking at itor if you have been tracking for years, then no, you probably don’t need to track.
... Recently I stoppedtracking calories myself and have become more in tune with being actually hungry rather than eating forthe sake of eating.
This is where I think tracking can be useful, particularly for beginners. Tracking is essentially writing afood diary every day to identify where you may be going wrong, or to help you be consistent so you cankeep making the right choices to suit your goals.
I’ve lost count of the number of times I hear someone say “I don’t eat that much, but I still can’t loseweight”. However when we track back they forget the couple of biscuits they had, the mayonnaise on the side of their meal, the sugar and milk in their tea/coffee.
All these small things add up. This is wheretracking can help to identify those small errors, where you might be going wrong and point you in the rightdirection.
So to conclude, if you have an understanding of macro nutrients and what you need to be consuming ona daily basis to reach your goals, then no, you probably don’t need to track. However, if you’re not surewhere you are going wrong with regards to your diet, then tracking might be a useful way to give you abetter understanding of carbs, fats, protein and where you total calories are coming from. . . . . . #caloriecounting #calories #diet #dietplan #food #nutrition #fitnessjourney #weightloss #fatloss #trackingfood #goals #youcandoit #fitnessmotivation

It doesn’t matter how many meals you eat a day, focus on hitting your calories for the day, writes Halo PT @andyhillocksfit ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Recently I’ve been eating 3 meals a day, this is because it suits my current lifestyle and goals. And that’s the most important, finding a structure that fits around your lifestyle. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Note: I wouldn’t advise eating less than 3 meals a day to reach your calorie goals. These will likely be very large meals and hard to digest. I’m not sayi...ng you can’t, I’m just saying I wouldn’t recommend it. . . . . . . #food #calories #caloriecounting #lifestyle #goals #diet #nutrition #dietplan #weightloss #fatloss #fitnesslifestyle #fitlife #personaltrainer #coach #lifebalance

When I wanted to lose weight I was very intimidated about joining a gym. I joined this one 3 years ago and haven't looked back. There is always a positive atmosphere and the staff are very knowledgeable and approachable. There is a great selection of equipment to suit a variety of goals and exercise routines.

User

Very nice gym. Nice people too. I go there to do boxing but you can do weights, cardio,...

User

Top gym. Probably the best I’ve ever been a member of, equipment extensive, trainers highly skilled and prices reasonable 💪🏻

User

So refreshing to belong to a gym where the instructors really know their stuff...real experts from strength training, fitness and Olympic lifting. I love it and dont know what I would do without my daily dose of this gym.

User

Really love this place, I actually feel more disciplined when I work out, because I want to (self-willingly!) go back. You will not be disappointed!

User

Really good gym, nice environment and very friendly staff! Lots of equipment and not too intimidating for a beginner!

My second home – Quite simply the best gym in Tunbridge Wells for those who are serious about their health and fitness. I’ve heard a lot of people out and about saying that this is a ‘meat head testosterone fuelled gym. This is simply not the case – it’s packed full of men and women who want to achieve in the best environment – surrounded by like-minded people and with the option of working with very knowledgeable dedicated PT’s. My wife has also now joined after initially feeling intimidated and uncomfortable at the thought of training here - but she loves it and is now working with just one of the great PT's here - Luke.
