Hatfields Furnishers Ltd have remained a leading local retailer since 1886, when John Hatfield, began selling curio’s. The front room of his home was used to store all his stock for the week's business. Only on Saturday night was it cleared out so that he and his wife could enjoy the use of a normal front room on Sundays! John Hatfield was a popular character who noted his customers' requirements on his paper shirt cuffs! This primitive paperwork was obviously successful and John's business soon outgrew the front room of his house.

Other premises were therefore acquired in St. John’s Street and Sir Isaac’s Walk. In a slight diversion from furniture, grapes growing in the greenhouse were sold over the counter for a halfpenny a pound during the Great War. The business continued to grow with more members of the family becoming involved. Hatfields relocated to the site of an old confectionery business, C W Hancock, in St Botolph’s Street in 1963 and then to its current buildings in Peartree Road in 1975. Today we employ over 65 staff and offer a superb array of furniture, including top brands.

We ordered 2 sofas a week or so again - the first purchase we have made at Hatfields.



Ian Hardstaff helped us and took our order and he was brilliant. Friendly, knowledgeable and a pleasure to deal with. He was excellent - coming to see us in the coffee shop (very good and much appreciated!) with prices and options so that we could make our decision quietly and under no pressure, through to taking our order. It was a first class experience and far removed from other experiences we have had at other retailers in the past.



We visited the outlet over the road too and were really impressed with the selection and the staff were also really friendly and helpful.

We have recently purchased and had fitted flooring for our hallway, stairs and landing. The service has been excellent! From being able to take a sample home to make sure the carpet was exactly the colour and style we would like (as we all know guessing in a store can be risky!), to the home estimation service to ensure all measurements are correct and all needs are met and finally the extremely friendly, hard working and professional fitters (Marc and Jesse). We cannot fault anything. We will definately be returning for any future flooring needs. Thankyou Hatfields!

We buy most of our furniture from Hatfields as you know you can expect quality and efficiency. Our goods arrived earlier than expected which was excellent. We bought bedroom furniture last year and recently a new mattress and coffee tables. Would especially like to thank Andrew Biggin who has excellent knowledge of products, answers numerous questions ( without making you feel daft) and gives you plenty of room never pressurising a sale. I am a very happy customer and wanted to put a review on face book .

I ordered some Duresta sofas and a footstool from the lovely Melanie who was most helpful and polite and our sofas were kept in storage for a while as had works going on the house . Had them delivered Monday and the legs needed adjusting and Paul came out following day to correct that so very good service and they look amazing .

I ordered a bedroom and stair carpet from Donna who again was very helpful knowledgable and polite and the red carpet took me a while to get right shade and I did and was so beautifully fitted by John and Les . It looks amazing and have sent some pictures in . These fitters were so polite neat and tidy and best carpets ever had fitted particularly the stairs with the rods . Simply stunning thank you

Also I ordered curtains and blinds from Dean and co in Hatfields and have to give a massive thank you to Shirley who simply was so lovely so helpful and knowledgable and clearly loves her job . I am having these all fitted these Friday and know they will look fabulous and to the Fitter Chris who has fitted curtains in the past .

Just wanted to thank the staff who make s big difference when choosing furniture for your home . This is a wonderful store and have been coming here for some years and will continue to do so .

Good afternoon, i just wanted to sing the praises of all staff concerned following a recent purchase. Having been assisted by a helpful member of staff i placed an order which arrived 2 weeks earlier than i had anticipated, this was communicated back to me and arrangements were made for me to collect from the warehouse. On arrival i was greeted by more friendly staff who had already located the item of furniture and had it waiting by the loading bay door where two staff members kindly loaded it into the car, paperwork to hand a signature followed and i was on my way. Transition from initial enquiry in-store to taking delivery was smooth, professional, early. I'd also like to add the furniture was incredibly well packaged making it incredibly easy to unload at the other end, the quality of the furniture is also excellent, i'll be back again soon.

After being assisted by a very experienced sales consultant I purchased and paid in full for two sofas. Everything was going well until it came to arranging delivery, when it was discovered that the manufactures had made a huge error. Hatfield's Customer Service Manager, Steve Trotman has worked tirelessly to rectify an appalling error that was not of Hatfield's making. I can only say thank you. The sofas have now been delivered and are lovely. Mr Trotman arranged compensation from the manufacturer and also offered compensation from Hatfield's. I can only say thank you for sorting out an awful mess so pain free.

We did not have the easiest of orders with Hatfields because we had multiple items at the busiest time of the year. However, one person stood above everyone else and really really cared about us getting the quality of products and service we wanted. So while it was a little frustrating (but you can't control your suppliers which we appreciate) they really did do their very best. The furniture we bought we absolutely adore and nothing were too much trouble to ensure that we were genuinely happy with our purchases. (Even "popping" out to adjust the table to ensure it was right. And the people that came out were really lovely too and incredibly respectful of our home). This is a company that genuinely cares that you are happy with your purchases and we felt that level of care. And believe the sofas we bought are likely to last forever they are that well made.

Hatfields is a local company and it's always good to be able to support local so it's good to be able to share our review of a local company that genuinely cares about your purchases with them.

Really ooor service and staff any other retail outlet would be all over you and keen to engage real staff training issue ,can't knock quality but really hard to make our purchase I know customers are to be tolerated but should be embraced commensurate with the reputation and standing of this store

What a disappointment. We ordered a bed from Hatfields back in May, had it delivered and it was the wrong bed! We were quite happy with the response on the day, Hatfields left us with the wrong bed and promised swift delivery of the one that we had actually ordered. However, since then the customer service has been shocking. We have had to chase, and chase and chase and received excuse after excuse after excuse. We now FINALLY have a delivery date - let's hope that it is the correct bed this time. However, there were no apologies, no trying to get things resolved as quickly as possible. I just have to fit in with the delivery slots available, the Customer Service rep even had the cheek to suggest I call back the day before to check on delivery times. Surely this is the role of Customer Services when dealing with customers who have been inconvenienced by your company. Towards the end of the conversation with "Customer Services" the lady in the department became aggressive and curt. I hope that no-one else has the misfortune of having to deal with the lady in this department. She really needs additional training or to not be in a customer facing role.



So, in summary. I would not suggest buying anything from Hatfields. The only reason I have given one star is that Facebook does not allow me to review and give none.

We've been a frequent customer of Hatfields in the past, but I'm not sure if that's going to continue as the customer service seems to have taken rather a nosedive recently. On a previous visit we felt rather ignored by the staff, but decided to try again yesterday, as we are looking for various items for upcoming room refurbishments.



Unfortunately it was no better. First off to the flooring area. We stood for a while looking at engineered wood flooring hoping for some help from the nearby staff, but none came. Eventually worked out the details ourselves, and strolled off to look at blinds.



Perused the display but then needed some advice. The person who staffed that department was dealing with a customer, but when she walked right up to us to pick up a brochure there was no "I'll be right with you", in fact no even acknowledgement of our existence. Two other staff members were unengaged nearby and one of those walked past, but nothing was said. We walked off, getting pretty cheesed off, and as we walked past another sales chap at his desk, we were discussing our poor experience with the staff, partly to give him a chance to put things right. He simply put his head down in a "not my problem" sort of way until we passed.



The one silver lining was on our way out of the store. A lady with a name badge of "Dot" asked if we needed any help. We thanked her for asking and said how it was a stark contrast to her colleagues. She apologised for our experience and offered us a cup of tea, which was a nice touch. Unfortunately the damage was done by then, but perhaps she could be persuaded to give some of here colleagues some much needed customer service tips!

Really very disappointed and upset with Hatfield's. My best friend and I were ordering £10,000 worth of carpet on two separate orders (my friends jumped from £2200 to £4300) this weekend 9.4.17 which we absolutely loved. We initially gave Alex floor plans of our newly built houses and we still booked into have our property properly measured by 'Paul' at the next available Saturday - Saturday came and Paul although meant to be there at 1pm arrived at 3pm. I had waited in all day to receive a quote from Paul (Alex advised us that Paul would give us a quote there and then), Paul said "I am in a rush to get to my next appointment because they are going out so do not have enough time to sit down and have discussions I will call you later on that evening" - No call was made and I didn't have Paul's direct number to call him. - I therefore waited for the Sunday and spoke to Alex who told me he had great news and the costings would work out at £110 each month for the next 3 years £3960 I told Alex that was great and I would be down to sign the paper work at 3pm that afternoon. - I then received a phone call from Alex who apologized that he had made a huge mistake and the costings was in fact £155 per month for three years totaling £5580. This was a huge jump from my original quote with Alex I was not happy and believe mistakes like this are not easily made. John (Carpet Manager) called me and instead of being apologetic blamed the matter on his Director and stated he was holding him back from accepting Alex's first quote. I was not happy and this is such a shame as my friend and I were looking forward to working with Hatfield's as from previous experience they have done a great job. Lastly I shortly realized that Hatfield's did not have exclusivity on this particular carpet (which Alex stated they did), and Carpet Right in Stanway would match their original quote including fitting, taking away old carpets. My friend has now ordered her carpets from carpet right and I will be doing the same shortly.

Liars who do not care about their customers with Managers who cannot answer questions because "they were not involved in the sale" well find out the answers as that is what Mangers do!!!



When my terminally ill in-laws ordered a sofa in November 2016 they were told it would be delivered in February 2017, I thought this was too long so I called them to see if they could get it quicker, unfortunately not, when we rang in Feb to ask where it was we were informed that they never said Feb they said April, by this time my father-in-law was in hospital & my mother was having chemo & needed a comfortable sofa, so I rang to complain & they offered no explanation regarding the lead time, but said they could come in & get a sofa in stock if they wanted, I then found out they had paid an extra £1,439 after already paying £1,880 for a Parker Knoll recliner that was obviously a display model as it had plastic foot protectors sewn into the base, they also sold them insurance even though I had already explained that as they were both terminal this was unnecessay.



They have offered to send someone to cut of the plastic protectors but we are nervous that this could damage the sofa.



They also bought a nest of tables for £750 that arrived with a big dent in the top, a replacement was meant to arrive in 10 weeks, 13 weeks later no word, so we took the damaged tables back to the shop ourselves.



we were informed by the Service Manager that if they want to return the display model sofa they would be charged 25% = £619.



I am appalled by treatment they have received, they have been lied to & ignored & now after all their failings they want to charge £619 to return it & they are aware that my father-in-law has now died so has had no benefit from their new furniture.
