Hawk'S Head Woodcraft

About Hawk'S Head Woodcraft

Countryside experience, wild camping, animal tracking and Archery tuition. "Woodland skills" connecting with the natural world.

Hawk'S Head Woodcraft Description

Welcome to the world of Woodcraft.

For all of my life I have had the privilege to live and work in the beautiful countryside of Britain, from the granite hills and moors of Devon and Cornwall to the mountains of Scotland I have shaped my life. From the woodland glades to the high peaks , the nature of this land has inspired many, and yet there are those who might for lack of knowledge see themselves as somehow separate from this great nature.

Survival in the wild seems more about struggling against than becoming a part of nature, so I will not be talking about cutting down trees to build shelters or killing wild animals for food, these things have their place and I respect the practitioners and teachers of both, I have spent my life doing these things and yet as the world becomes smaller there is not often the space for the amateur survivalist to pursue such ventures without effecting others.

What I would like to achieve here is an understanding, a preparation, a walk through the woods or a night on the moors where few will have noticed your impact, for with the right skills and knowledge you will leave little trace you were ever there.
I will discuss the Kit you might need, the preparations, the law, food and fire in the time to come. With the right equipment and a good knowledge, your enjoyment of the countryside will be far enriched, it is truly amazing what the average person is able to achieve.

In the near future I will be offering practical sessions on "wild" camping, animal tracking and the use and maintenance of your valuable kit, Archery lessons to enable you to connect to the past as well as many other adventures, so feel free to contact me with suggestions and please watch this space.
Look after your land and the land will look after you.

Wow! It's hard to believe that we have had the 3D Archery Range up and running for a whole year TODAY! So much has changed, we've had a few move abouts.... it's still pretty damn cool! 😎🏹🏹

Pickling and Preserving, ready for Winter, the Zombie Apocalypse, next year's crop failure because of too much, too little or the wrong kind of rain or Brexit..... take your pick these days!!

Harvest! It's going to make monitoring the deer at whole lot easier 😊

It might be hot out, but under the shelter of the trees it beautifully cool. Excellent weather for letting arrows fly.

Despite the fact that we had a small fire last night (all precautions were taken, fire was raised 12” above the floor and we had plenty of water on standby (gallons)). Common sense dictates that this is now too dangerous and a risk to the farming/woodland environment. We will not be continuing with any fire based activity until we get substantial rainfall. I would urge all would be adventurers to do the same.

Welcoming Sounds of Serenity to the woods for the 1st ever Woodland Sound Bath!! Xx

Important information if your planing a fire in this dry spell. If you are out camping or just enjoying the outdoors, take care of anything that might cause a fire, and if you are thinking of lighting a fire, ask yourself if you really need it, and if you do take extra precautions and extinguish the fire correctly. Our recommendation would be not to bother, it's warm enough to go without and cold food works great, especially in this heat; why bother to cook?

Modern man lives in a world of disposable goods. From something most would take to the tip to very serviceable hanging baskets. Just add brambles and a bit of effort. Work with nature, know your local resources and practice your skills. It's the difference between surviving and thriving!

May is 'Walk in the Woods' Month! Get out and enjoy!
