Hazardous Cargo Bulletin (HCB) was established in 1980 to help those involved in the transport of dangerous goods. Now part of the SJH Group.

Hcb Description

Hazardous Cargo Bulletin (HCB) was established in 1980 to help those involved in the transport of dangerous goods to keep up to date with changing regulations. We continue to cover regulatory developments and to bring our readers news of products and services that aim to make their operations safer or more efficient.

The magazine covers the transport of all kinds of dangerous goods, but particularly liquid chemicals, liquefied gases, explosives and radioactive materials. It covers transport by all modes: road, rail, maritime (bulk and packaged), inland waterway and air. Its coverage is also global in scope, covering not only North America and Western Europe but also the Far East, South-East Asia, Australasia, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America. HCB has full-time writers based in the US and in Poland and a network of part-time contributors in Singapore, India, Brazil, Zambia and elsewhere. For a FREE trial copy of the bulletin, Click Here.
HCB’s website, www. hazardouscargo.com, has been designed to bring breaking news more rapidly to both subscribers and non-subscribers. NOT SO BRIGHT SPARK
After two storms in a week, New Jersey was blanketed in snow and a man was off to see his father to help him sweep his drive. But the storms had also brought down power lines, leaving hundreds of thousands without power. Utility crews were working overtime to restore power.
The man was on Route 208 in Franklin Lakes when he came to a detour marked off by traffic cones. But, reluctant to go too far out of his way or get caught up in another traffic snarl, ...he drove around the cones – and right onto a live cable. His car caught fire and he was killed at the scene. Seeing as he worked as an electrician in New York, he might have been expected to know better.

THE GASMAN COMETH
After a workout, a chap decided to try out the sauna and found it practically full. But, squeezing in among the other patrons, he found that even after 15 minutes he was barely sweating.
... Checking with the others to see if it was alright with them, he took the wooden ladle and brought some water from the swimming pool just outside to splash on the rocks heating the sauna. That did the trick: the sauna started to get hotter straight away.
But then, he said, his eyes started to burn and his lungs “felt like they were on fire”. Everyone else in the room also had the same reaction and they all ran to get out – which was difficult as the doorway was narrow. "Everyone in the pool area was extremely confused as to why we all came flying out of the sauna,” our gym buddy said. “We were wheezing and coughing and dry heaving. I tried to figure out what was going on and I realised that the pool water is full of chlorine. When I poured it on the rocks, the steam it created must have irritated our eyes and lungs. What I essentially did was gas everyone in the sauna with chlorine.”

FLEEING THE SCENE
Also looking to remain unidentified were a tanker driver and his mate, who absconded last July after their vehicle caught fire in Osino, Ghana. It soon became apparent that the fire was no accident – it was set deliberately in order to hide the evidence of the pair’s actions in selling its cargo of diesel.
The deal was ‘masterminded’, according to the Graphic, by a former driver for the trucking company, although his plan seemed to have a lot of holes in it.... Firstly, it relied on the driver claiming that he had run out of fuel (despite there being 54,000 litres of it on the truck), in order to get the mate out of the way while the deal was done.
Suffice to say, the three did not remain unidentified for long and at least two were quickly in police custody.

On this week’s ‘Thoughts on’ video featuring Peter Mackay he addresses how the newer generations are not necessarily aware of historical events and how they need to be re-presented periodically to new audiences. With Brexit coming under way it is important to understand that distribution and trade with the UK may change in the near future.
