Kelly Harris, Nutritional Therapist- I loved this feel-good story. This school cook donated her February wages and received some grants so she could provide healthy, real food for every single student for the entire month.
Regardless of where you stand on meat vs no meat or dairy vs no dairy, eating real food (as opposed to processed stuff pulled out of a freezer bag and dumped in the deep fryer) is where children can start to develop a healthy relationship with eating whi...ch will last throughout their lives.
There are many reasons why children can have a poor diet or a poor relationship with food - family financial situation, a history of picky eating where parents have simply given up, peer pressure, emotional/control issues, neglect or even abuse. It is so easy to judge why a child's diet has ended up being less than ideal to meet their needs (and yes, my child had a chocolate croissant for lunch yesterday 😳) but I think it is more productive to look at solutions for how all children can be well-nourished and although it is just ONE MONTH in ONE SCHOOL in ONE PROVINCE in ONE COUNTRY 🇨🇦, I believe stories like this should be celebrated.
