What is rhodium plating? 🤔
Rhodium plating is a thin metal coating added to the outer surface of white gold to give it a bright lustrous white finish.
Pure gold is naturally yellow in colour, therefore to achieve white gold, white metals are alloyed/mixed with pure yellow gold to "bleach" the colour towards white and finally plated with rhodium.
... Through time, rhodium plating can wear off, revealing the dull greyish colour underneath.
