KUMARI JATRA celebrations in Kathmandu, Durbar Square
The KUMARI (meaning 'princess') is belived to be a LIVING GODDESS amongst the Newari community of Nepal and is workshipped by many Hindus. The Royal Kumari of Kathmandu lives in the Kumari Ghar (building on video one) and can only be seen once a year, during Kumari Jatra. The girl is chosen through a rigorous process and has to be very young. When the girl starts to menstruate, it is believed that the goddess vacates her body and then another Kumari is chosen.
