Sunday 21:00 - Monday 23:59
... Heavy thundery rainfall, especially on Monday, may lead to flooding, serious travel disruption and danger to life.
What to expect!
There is a small chance that fast flowing or deep floodwater could suddenly occur, bringing a danger to life and extensive flooding of homes and businesses.
There is a slight chance of damage to buildings/structures from lightning strikes, hail, or strong winds.
If flooding occurs, road closures are likely, with long delays and cancellations to bus and rail services are possible.
There is small chance that spray, sudden flooding, standing water and/or hail will result in rapidly changing, dangerous driving conditions.
There is a slight chance power and other essential services, such as gas, water or mobile phone service will be lost.
There is a small chance communities may be cut off.

#KeepInflatableToysForThePool
Our good friends at the RNLI shared this footage from last week to show why inflatables are one of the most common reasons HM Coastguards, lifeguards, lifeboats and Coastguard helicopters get called into action.
Last week the volunteer crew from Minehead RNLI Lifeboat Station rescued two little girls who had drifted offshore in an inflatable swan whilst our Coastguard helicopter hovered above to make sure there weren't more children in difficult...y. Thankfully these little girls were very brave and did the right thing by staying in the inflatable to wait until help arrived. 👍
These toys 🦄 are designed for swimming pools and not the sea, where the tide and the wind can pull them out away from the shore very quickly. We strongly advise against using inflatables in the sea, if you do use them at the beach, then: - Always use them on a lifeguarded beach, in between the red ❤️ and yellow flags 💛 - Keep them near the shore and if being used by children, supervise them at all times. - Never use an inflatable when the orange windsock is flying 🌬💨 - Do not take them out in big waves 🌊

Today we stand shoulder to shoulder with Les Sauveteurs en Mer - SNSMand all French search and rescue crews after hearing the tragic news that they have lost three of their own.
Such remarkable courage in the service of others is rarely equalled and never surpassed. They made the ultimate sacrifice.
Our thoughts and prayers are with their families and those who responded today in such a valiant and courageous manner, in the most horrendous and difficult circumstances, involving three of their own search and rescue family.

In Waters Deep
In ocean wastes no poppies blow,... No crosses stand in ordered row, Their young hearts sleep... beneath the wave... The spirited, the good, the brave, But stars a constant vigil keep, For them who lie beneath the deep.
'Tis true you cannot kneel in prayer On certain spot and think. "He's there." But you can to the ocean go... See whitecaps marching row on row; Know one for him will always ride... In and out... with every tide.
And when your span of life is passed, He'll meet you at the "Captain's Mast." And they who mourn on distant shore For sailors who'll come home no more, Can dry their tears and pray for these Who rest beneath the heaving seas...
For stars that shine and winds that blow And whitecaps marching row on row. And they can never lonely be For when they lived... they chose the sea...

#VolunteerWeek
This week is ‘National Volunteers’ Week’ and we're going to be celebrating all those that help our service function.
It seems only right to start with the men and women that make up the ranks of the Coastguard Rescue Service.
... Our Coastguard Rescue Officers, all 3,500 of them to be exact, are volunteers. From the largest cities to the smallest islands these officers are prepared to respond at any time of the day or night, in all weathers, to assist those in their hour of need.
But it's not just responding to emergencies where this commitment stops.
Our volunteers give up their time to maintain their skills, to maintain stations, vehicles and equipment, to provide visible safety patrols, attend PR events, and also go out into the community to educate the current and next generations.
The time that our volunteers' give is humbling, and helps us deliver a truly world class coastal rescue service.
These volunteers really are ordinary people who do extraordinary things!

Buckie Coastguard Rescue Team from HM Coastguard - Moray arrived on station this afternoon to find a box of time expired pyrotechnics had been illegally dumped outside the station.
These were left in full view of the general public and could potentially have been picked up by children.
... The team followed their procedures and secured the pyrotechnics before transporting to our licenced store in Inverness.
It is an offence ⛔, and dangerous ⚠️ to dump marine pyrotechnics. 🚯

#Callout #StCyrus #Ordnance
13/4/19 at 1336 Aberdeen CGOC received a call for assistance from Police Scotland.
A call was received to possible unexploded ordnance at the North end of the beach.
... #Montrose CRT were tasked to locate and set up cordon. The Royal Navy EOD were requested to attend the scene and to perform a controlled detonation. This occurred at 1930.
The item was identified as a phosphorus marker used during military exercises and training. When fired theses burn extremely bright and intense temperature so much so they are designed to completely burn away, including its container.
Phosphorus spontaneously ignites on contact with air, producing toxic fumes (phosphorus oxides). Phosphorus reacts violently with oxidants, halogens, some metals, nitrites, sulfur, and many other compounds, causing a fire and explosion hazard.🔥
⚠️Never touch 🚫, remove, relocate any item found on the shore that looks similar to this photo.
Dial 9️⃣9️⃣9️⃣ and ask for #COASTGUARD.
