Is There a Difference? Customers who bring their iPhones to us for a screen repair are offered two choices of replacement- an original or a “copy” screen. The most common response is “Is there a difference- and which one would you recommend?”
... Originals are those screens containing LCDs that were manufactured for Apple. So-called “copy” screens are compatible replacements, but designed and manufactured entirely independently by third-party companies, typically in China.
Our answer is simple- the original screen is the one we’d go for ourselves, every time. Some people think we make more money on them, but this isn’t the case. We recommend originals because they’re far higher quality and the price difference is fairly small.
We’d rather only fit original screens. The only reason we don’t is that many people will shop around and choose purely on price. As such, we need to offer the cheaper copy screens to remain competitive and avoid losing these customers. In some cases, they didn’t even know there was a difference in the first place- especially since it’s not in some shops’ interest to draw people’s attention to the issue!
See the Difference for Yourself Recently a customer came to our store. They’d had their iPhone 7 screen replaced elsewhere, and they really weren’t happy with the quality.
We’re not surprised. Our photos show a huge difference between the copy screen that had been fitted and a genuine Apple original:-
The copy has much lower brightness, contrast and vibrancy– it looks generally “washed out”. The copy screen appears far coarser in normal use. Our microscope closeups make obvious that it has much lower resolution. When we tried removing it, the frame was already coming off the copy(!) This may well be the worst copy screen we’ve ever come across. As a result, the unfortunate customer has ended up paying twice to have their screen replaced- we’re sure that had they been properly informed, they would have chosen an original in the first place.
While the difference in price between copies and originals can vary across devices, it’s generally around £15 extra to have an original screen fitted. This really isn’t a lot considering the improved quality and reliability.
We compare our prices to our competitors- and we know that we come out of it favourably. While we have to offer copy screens to remain competitive, we always advise customers to go for the original.
When you’ve spent- directly or indirectly- several hundred pounds for an iPhone with a Retina display, it doesn’t make sense to replace it with a lower-quality screen that can make a £400 phone look like a £40 one! Not only that, but you’re likely to have fewer issues, and a longer-lasting screen.

Went their today with a broken phone and it was a speedy fix and great customer service

Went in this morning with a complete ruined phone and had been completely locked out of it due to passcode being put in wrong too many times, Jason fixed my screen really quick then got onto trying to gain access to my phone again.. left it with him for a couple hours and he had done it. Super happy with it and would totally recommend Jason for anything you need �

Went in at 5.45pm last Monday evening (closes at 6pm) and I have to say I got great service! Ben fixed my phone for me in minutes and was so helpful. Very good value as well. Will definitely be taking any future phone/laptop repairs back there!

Travelled from Ware on Saturday to Ifixit ,as half of my I Phone screen suddenly went black .Served by a very friendly young man who mended my phone in 15 mins .Well worth the drive ,it's my second time using the shop & very happy with the service & prices .

These guys are fantastic! They respond to messages, usually very quickly, and were even able to get someone out to me the very same day! It took not much more than 15 minutes or so (I did have the front and back glass replaced aswell as a new battery and the phone itself feels like new! Very good job! The only thing is occasionally the phone seems to switch itself off thinking it has no battery life, when it does. Don't hold this against them as I have not yet adressed this issue to them, as it could always possibly be the phone, great job, was quick and very helpful! Works brilliantly!

Thank you for fixing my Samsung Tim! Although you had trouble getting a screen, it was out of your control and you kept in touch and was reassuring me that you would find one! You did and my phone looks brand new again. Thanks again guys �

Stopped by after work today with no appointment and received a speedy, friendly and professional service from Dale. My iPhone is good as new and most importantly, the repair is covered by a 6 month warranty if anything does go wrong!! I will be recommending to all!!

Really good service; fast and professional! Price also competes with any online based company. A great addition to Royston, nice to see something other than a new place to eat or a charity shop! 100% would recommend.

Popped in today as my headphones stopped working when connected to my phone. I was braced for an expensive repair bill, but the nice man dug around with some tweezers - pulled out a huge ball of fluff and sent me on my way with everything working fine (without any charge). Would totally recommend, thanks :)

Popped in on the off chance that an iPad with broken headphone jack could be fixed. The chap behind the counter was lovely, really really helpful, and fixed the problem for me. Can’t recommend highly enough. Saved an expensive trip to Apple Store in Cambridge, for which I will be eternally grateful! Thank you, so much!

Got drunk last night and completely ruined my phone screen was unusable, gave Jason a message this morning and he took it and changed the screen within a few hours! Would highly recommend! He’s so good at what he does!!

Can't recommend highly enough. I broke my iPad and Tim had it fixed within half an hour for a very reasonable price. It's nice to get some good old fashioned customer service for a change.

Changing my recent review from 1 star to 4. To be begin with I felt messed about having travelled to the shop total 3 times to get my screen fixed but in the end it turned out there had been a mix

Up and miscommunication with the Staff so I had a message with an apology and to say if I went in again my screen would be fixed this time free of charge which it was. Very pleased in the end with the service and it could all be resolved.

●Went in Tuesday morning to get a Samsung s7 unlocked. Was told it would take max of 12-48 hrs to get code to me. They happily took fee off me.

●Called weds evening just before closing time to check if they had it to be told to call back in 5 minutes as was busy. I questioned the fact they would be closed then but he promised he would answer...... surprise, no answer.

●Called Thursday (after 48hrs). Still no code. Promised they would have it by 4pm.

●Called at 4pm . Still no code. Promised they would have it by 6pm.

●Called just before closing at 6pm. Still no code. The guy said he would contact me this evening once he has the code.

●Surprise surprise..... Still no code.

Very disappointed. Went in for a battery replacement on my 6s Plus. Phone was returned with broken cameras and earpiece speaker. Went back to have that sorted and the new front camera was blurry, and the home button cable was damaged in the repair which meant replacing the screen with a cheap copy screen. This resulted in an overheating phone with an overly sensitive 3D touch. I was then told that the main board in my phone was damaged and would require repair.



I have since replaced the screen and front facing camera myself with original parts and my phone works perfectly. However, when I opened my phone to fix it I found a number of missing screws! My phone had never been opened before ifixit repairs did.



Absolutely would not recommend.
