The Axolotl, or known as the Mexican "walking fish", ironically isn't a fish at all but an amphibian. They are interesting because they exhibit neoteny. This means that they never grow up: they are salamander larvae that develop sexual organs as larvae and chop the end stage off of their life cycle. Because they never develope into "adult" salamanders, they stay gilled and aquatic. Their failure to change into salamanders is caused by a lack of thyroid stimulating hormone.

It is a proven Chihuahua fact that, in body to brain ratios, these little dogs have the biggest brain of any other breed.

Amazing Fact: If a female ferret goes into heat but can’t get any sex, she will die
This is a female specific problem; female ferrets can go into extended heat – during which time they must breed or they can die of aplastic anemia – a condition in which the bone marrow stops producing enough new blood cells (caused by estrogen toxicity.) This is because female ferrets are induced ovulators, so mating is required to bring the female out of heat. Intact females, if not mated, will remain in heat, and after some time the high levels of estrogen will cause the bone marrow to stop producing red blood cells.

These are the rear ends of rain forest caterpillars. If you thought they were snakes or lizards, so do predators. And that's how they survive. These false eye spots give defenseless caterpillars a moment of protection, startling birds, for instance, into sudden retreat. The caterpillars that don’t have that startle effect get eaten up. Thus natural selection has made the trait widespread in the caterpillar world.

Depicted is the eggs of the Phyllopteryx taeniolatus, the Weedy Seadragon. Related to the Seahorse the males also carry the eggs. Unlike the Seahorse the Weedy Seadragons carry their eggs under their tails instead of in a pouch.

Jonathan, the tortoise, is believed to be 178-years-old and was about 70 at the time the black and white picture was taken. He was photographed during the Boer War around 1900, and his life has spanned eight British monarchs from George IV to Elizabeth II, and 50 prime ministers!

I never write reviews and in this case after reading the harsh negative comments bellow from some people who haven't even been to this store once, which are so wrong. I am a huge animal lover and my family have been rescuing animals for years, my mother has also been to court with a pet shop before and they ended up being closed down.

I recently bought the loveliest rag doll kitten from Jumanji. I had phoned them month in advanced and been in contact with NICK who kind and helpful. He loves all the animals in store and thats obvious. I called up and asked to be told when the breeder would have more kittens and he kept my number and called me a month later. Most the animals are sold before they even get to the shop. I waited for my kitten and in the meantime nick answered all my questions and helped me get ready for her. I collected her the day after she arrived in store and the rest of her brothers and sisters were collected within 2-3 days max. So they don't stay in the store for long and go to happy loving homes quickly. Healthy. Nick has been in constant contact with me for a week making sure my Lula is comfy and settled. Again, helping me with any questions I have.

They really are wonderful in here and love there animals. My friend also has a happy healthy rag doll from Jumanji too! THANK YOU JUMANJI

I think the pet food and toy isles are good. But animals are too hot. Needs air con in there rabbits were panting heavy. Animals looked healthy but one puppy looked very sad being alone whilst other pups were together. Staff is friendly to me so I can't complain about that.

User

I have brought two budgies from here over the last month and they both died within 2wks and 3wks my daughter is devastated all the birds must be sick. Do not buy any budgies from here as they won't live longer then 3wks

User

yuck. what a disgusting excuse for a pet store. Half your animals didn't even have ANY water on a 30degree day. The poor ferret was literally licking the bottom of the empty ceramic bowl because it was thirsty. your employees are a joke and I hope you get shut down by the RSPCA

User

Why do you keep puppies behind glass? Won't be visiting again that's for sure. Very poor.

User

The worst shop as I know in London. Today I bought food for my hamster and it was a lot of live worms inside it's disgusting.

User

The problem with driving a van covered in your company livery is that you are very easy to find...well done for driving through a red light at a pedestrian crossing in West Hampstead v nearly knocking two people down in the process...pay attention idiot!!

User

One budgie survived 3 weeks & another died after only two weeks. How can you break the hearts of little children by selling sick birds? How do you sleep at night? Someone should report you for selling sick birds to young children, it's an absolute disgrace & I hope Trading Standards close you down.

User

My friend bought à rabbit from here and it had à skin condition they fobbed her off so be careful what you but here !!!!

User

If I could give no stars I would. This is a disgusting pet shop that keeps poor animals in terrible conditions. I can't believe they are still selling animals. The owners daughter had a poor Meerkat behind the counter in a tiny cat carrier, she told me he was fine and could get me one if I wanted. Meerkats should not be kept alone as they are pack animals :( They don't seem to care about animals at all. They also recommend the use of prong collars!
