King'S And Theatre Royal Glasgow Description

The Theatre Royal first theatre opened in 1867 and after two fires reopened in September 1895. This began the long and successful association of the Theatre Royal with the best in the world of entertainment.

The Theatre Royal presents a wide variety of drama, dance, comedy, opera, musical and children’s theatre. It is home to Scotland’s resident companies, Scottish Opera and Scottish Ballet, and is a unique City Centre venue for conferences, meetings and seminars.

The Victorian auditorium and stylish contemporary corporate areas provide privacy and flexibility for many occasions. On March 2005 Ambassador Theatre Group took over the management of the Theatre Royal, and continues to present first class entertainment.

The King's, Glasgow is one of Scotland's most historic and significant theatres. It opened in 1904 as one of the most brilliant designs of the prolific theatre architect Frank Matcham and has played host to top stars and shows ever since.

It is home to possibly the very best Christmas pantomime to be seen in the United Kingdom which over the years has featured the Scottish greats including Stanley Baxter, Jimmy Logan, Rikki Fulton, Jack Milroy, Elaine C Smith and Gerard Kelly.

The King's provides Glasgow's flourishing amateur groups with a high profile stage and was the location for the opening ceremony of Glasgow's European City of Culture events in 1990. Above all, it continues to pack in appreciative audiences performance after performance and throughout the year.

On September 30 2002 Ambassador Theatre Group took on the management of the King's (Glasgow City Council remains the owner). The theatre continues to present first class musicals and pantomime alongside a wider range of drama, dance and comedy.

Was at your theatre tonight, being a regular with an ATG card I’m there quite often seeing many different shows, musicals etc. Tonight went beyond anything I’ve ever seen The Band was absolutely phenomenal loved all of it. The casting, characters, singers, music was so well written and performed. Staff as usual were lovely and friendly. Well done Kings theatre yet again for an excellent night see you again soon x

Attended the first night of Priscilla by the lyric company .the show was amazing from costumes music choreography as well as the jokes ! The 3 Queens deserve a special mention as their acting was as good as any professional companies. Their singing was amazing and their ability to wear high heals impressive to say the least .I have recommended to friends and may go again before they finish on sat ! Well done !

1 of the best shows I’ve saw in a long time, great tribute to take that and a fantastic story line to go with it, got emotional at the end like a few folk but honestly it’s a defo must see xxx

Was here with my 3 girls on Friday Night for Legally Blonde show was great but what a run around we got told to go up to the first floor when we were supposed to go round the side entrance nearly missed the start of the show but have to give credit where credits due we were served by Jennifer who organised our interval drinks even after we were seated in the wrong area she is always so pleasant and polite when ever we come to shows even when she was being rushed by other staff members and I don't think your air conditioning is working either it was far to hot

User

I’m sure the show and theatre are lovely! However not when the matinee is full of children under 11 from local schools to see Titanic! The paying public should be warned if this is the case! We’ve paid full price and the afternoon has being spoilt by perpetual fidgeting and loo visits!!

Show was amazing. But standing in the pouring rain waiting for bag check was ridiculous. If you must do it, employ more staff and actually have people at the door telling you where to go. If you are bag checked on picking up your tickets don't do it again while going up the stairs to the upper circle. Sort your system out. A man behind me said he got in quicker this week to a packed football stadium.

Just home from the King's Theatre after seeing " Fast Love "

Show was excellent, but the behaviour of some of the audience was far from it. A fight broke out almost at the end of the Show. Women got so drunk, they started fighting, and NO Staff were anywhere to be seen. I was there with my elderly Mother in a Wheelchair, and the fight got so close, we'd to make a run for it!! Hardly a great ending to a Show. Fast Love? More like fast exit!!! Very disappointing Kings Theatre

Where do i actually start? Went with a friend to see Beauty and the Beast Sing-a-long and the experience was horrendous... 1) Juice extremely over priced knowing peaople will buy it because they cant take there own in, 2) couldnt even see the film as the balcony above us covered half of the screen, 3) i was freezing, 4) was made to feel extremely uncomfortable by the staff because we were leaving as they tried to pressure us into staying, 5) noise was way to much for anyone, 6) couldnt even enjoy the film with the noise and couldnt see anything for the dancing from audience due to the staff having there own twist on things, bought 3 tickets and was only given 2 goodie bags was meant to be 1 goodie bag per ticket... whole thing was an absolute sham and a waste of money i for 1 shall not be back!

Went to see Thriller. Great shiw. Wheelchair spaces located in the back of the Theatre. Audience allowed to stand up and dance etc... during the performance entirely blocking the view of wheelchair users (who can’t stand up). Really not very wheelchair user friendly. Disabled toilet a mess and certainly not clean. Audience behaviour quite unusual for a Theatre. Drunk women falling about in the stalls and talking loudly to each other during the performance is tolerated by theatre staff. Not what I expected of a trip to the Theatre, Hence the one star rating.

Went to evening show of Jersey Boys Friday 6th April. Unfortunately a group of people caused havoc by arguing all during the first half. So much so they had to interrupt the show to remove 'some' of the culprits. The staff were absolutely hopeless at dealing with this issue to allow it to go on for so long. People spend good money to have an enjoyable night out. We don't want to have to listen to idiots. Get it sorted kings theatre!! Employ staff/stewards who can deal with these situations effectively so that others can enjoy the entertainment they have paid for

Terrible customer service regarding the matinee performance of today's play. Went ahead despite a RED weather warning which has led to all public transport in Glasgow going off. Police Scotland warning people to go home and close up for the day but not the kings. If a couple of your customers don't make it home what does it matter right? Someone else will just take their seats at another show. G. R. E. E. D from ATG/ Kings Theatre / show producers.

Can't get a refund, need to email despite been trying to resolve since 10am this morning.

Shameful.

Seen dirty dancing here recently and the show was excellent ,BUT this venue air con or lack of is an absolute disgrace , felt faint ,sick , sweat lashing out of us and even one of the performers collapsed at the encore , the drink prices are an utter rip off and getting served in small plastic 100ml cups for the price you pay is poor, the air con has been an issue for years and at the prices being charged this surely must be rectified , it will take a very special show for me too return and actually probably never will until it has repaired , would not recommend any seats above ground level ,

Please listen to what others are saying on here and get more security in especially on Saturday nights. My boyfriend had to take control of the situation at Mamma Mia last night, others complained too and he told staff about the drink the women around us had snuck in in their jackets and that they were rude to us. They were spilling drink over us, touching me, leaning over me, talking, singing and standing up and were not removed until one fell over drunk and couldn't get back up. The other two were allowed to stay and keep embarassing themselves. We did get apologies from a member of staff but it was too much for him to control. My boyfriend had to spend the show telling them off himself.

Ok so I have tried emailing. Calling (over 20 times) and have just spoken to James Hayworth manager at the kings theatre Glasgow to no avail. I am getting nowhere and was willing to keep it off social media but not after being called a liar.

On Friday the 6th April myself, sister in law Claire and mother in law Lorraine went to the the kings theatre to see the showing of the jersey boys.

There was a small group of women in front us us causing disruptions and kept being spoken to by security. Around 25 mins in to the show the security came over and asked Lorraine to go with them.

I followed wondering what was going on. The security grabbed and pushed her against the wall (leaving thumb print bruise on her arm!!!) I went to help her but slipped down the stairs. May I add here that not at any point were we offered help or asked if we were ok! Instead we were told that we were being asked to leave because of all the disruption we had caused (absolutely none) this escalated in me calling police. Police came and as they had 9 witnesses (the security staff only) there was nothing police could do. They changed there story numerous times firstly stating thy Claire had threatened someone in audience, this was then changed to oh sorry it was the person in front, we were banging, screaming and threatening people. When in fact we done none of these things. The people in front us us did!! I have spent the last 5 days trying to contact the kings theatre, atg and the ambassadors group and only today was I able to speak to James Hayworth. James has told me that he has to side with the duty manager and nothing will be done. We will not be given an apology, we will not be re imbursed for our tickets nothing. This was embarrassing, distressing and I am absolutely appalled that a night at the theatre can end like this!!! Please share everywhere until this is noticed and maybe dealt with like it should have been 5 days ago.

My mum and son attended Saturdays showing of Cirque Berserk at 5.30pm. This performance was evaquated due to the fire alarm being set off, fire crew attended the scene. I am very understanding of this situation.

I do not tolerate the theatres lack of action thereafter. I was advised I would be contacted by now to resolve this situation, it should not take the theatre the best part of a week to decide what to do next. I have already explained that my mother is a full time carer as my dad has Alzheimers so I can't just accept tickets for another show. I want somebody to contact me to process a full refund.

We have attended the Kings for many years and I am seriously disappointed in your team. You have a lot of customers money.

I’m trying to watch and listen to Motown - how sweet it is - but the folk in front keep standing up, completely blocking my view. They seem to think I want to watch their backs instead of the fantastic guys on stage.

And will the staff do anything? NO.

It’s not good enough!

Don’t come here if you want the staff to take your complaints serious.

I look after a young lady with learning disabilities and she is also in a wheelchair the company I work for were arranging a xmas pantomime day for dec 19th 2018 with a number of service users on booking tickets the co ordinator was told the support worker with the young lady in the wheelchair had to go to the kings theatre in person to prove the young lady was actually in a wheelchair, "why on earth would I want to reserve a wheelchair space if she wasnt in a wheelchair" on reporting this back to the young ladys family they were not to happy so they called the theatre and were told to phone another number when they did that they were told yes that was right she had to go with her support worker in person to prove she is in a wheelchair, needless to say she wont be going to see aladdin in the kings theatre, absolutely disgusting treatmemt and anyone reading this thinking of taking disabled person to any show in there I wouldnt bother.
