With Summer just around the corner we all need to think about protecting our eyes as well as our skin. We have a great range of sunglasses in store which can be supplied with prescription polarised lenses. Polarised lenses reduce glare and allow you to see more, but cutting out those annoying reflections. They are quite clever and are available in an exciting range of colours. Here is the plan...

Now this one measures the shape of the Cornea. That is the front surface of the eye, it is transparent and (roughly) spherical in shape. Except when it's not. This is when a Topographer becomes invaluable, with high levels of Astigmatism and in Keratoconus. Keratoconus is when there is a distortion on the Cornea in the shape of a cone. This leads to unacceptable levels of vision with spectacles and normal soft lenses. This is when we start fitting custom made contact lenses to vault this cone and bring back distortion free vision. Fitting them with care will mean that these lenses deliver comfortable levels of clear vision.

What is this thing, I hear you ask? Well, it's the way we see below the surface of the Retina (the inside layer of the Eye). It's like an MRI for the eye, but, it's safe and quick. Why would you need such a thing? Before the invention of the OCT (this one is made by Zeiss), the only way we could see into the retina was with a histology slice (which would have to be taken from your dead body!), so a little bit too late. Now we pick up tons more and tons earlier. So we can do ...something about it. Off course we have one of these amazing things Kerr Eyecare, but more importantly we know how to interpret the results, five years of experience with this AND specialist diplomas in Medical Retina is how we know our way around it quite so well. It's really something to behold and, surprisingly, inexpensive to have your eye health assess with this amazing machine.
