9 reported burglaries across the #Lewes district this week, 4 break ins and 5 attempted burglaries.
Suspects like to try their luck with door handles or side gates - double lock front doors if you can, and check the locks on your gates for wear and tear following a wet winter and replace any damaged or rusted ones.

PCSO Turvey attended the U3A monthly meeting in #Peacehaven yesterday afternoon to talk 'courier fraud'
Officers have recently dealt with a number of courier frauds targeting elderly of vulnerable members of the community.
Typically residents are contacted by people claiming to be from the Police, asking for money to be handed over to check serial numbers on bank notes which have been used in a crime, or claim that fake notes are in circulation and they need to check the ones... you have.
The fraudsters then arrange for a courier to come and collect the money from victims.
Share the signs of courier fraud with any elderly, or vulnerable family and friends to help keep them safe from this latest trend.

Our ongoing patrols, and work with our more rural communities continues this week, with PCSO Stainer visiting farms in #Barcombe #Ditchling #Chailey to offer support, reassurance and advice.
We know you’ve invested a great deal of time, energy and money in your farm, work and farm businesses, together we can help to prevent rural crime, please review our rural crime prevention advice below:
• Removed high-value goods away from display windows overnight, or take them home with... you
• Install CCTV that comes with phone apps to view your premises remotely from your home, some even come with alert notifications to alert you to movements
• Do not leave cash on the premises, print up a poster for the window ‘no cash/valuables left in this shop overnight’
• Prune any overgrown bushes or nearby trees, as they can provide cover for anyone trying to hide from view
• Identify areas that may be vulnerable to forced entry and have them made more secure

Are you visiting elderly, or vulnerable family/friends this weekend?
Please share this short video with them to help keep them safe from the latest 'courier frauds'...
Following a recent rise in courier fraud, #Lewes Police recently have dealt with a number of so called “courier frauds” where local residents are contacted by people claiming to be from various businesses and organisations asking for money or goods to be handed over.
... Local officers are reminding residents to be careful due to scammers getting smarter and more intent of de-frauding residents of their hard earned money.

TAKE FIVE✋
If you receive a request to provide personal or financial information, take a moment to reflect and step back from the situation. Even if they say they’re the bank or other trusted organisation, you still need to take 5 to stop and think about what’s really going on.
Share and remind yourselves of the golden rules to help protect you and those around from scams here: socsi.in/qYRld

5 reported burglaries this week across the #Lewes district.
Become a creature of habit when leaving your home with our checklist:
🔒close and lock all your doors and windows, even if you’re only going out for a few minutes, double-locking any doors
... 🔒make sure that any valuables are out of sight
🔒keep handbags away from the letterbox or cat flap and hide all keys including car keys, as a thief could hook keys or valuables through even a small opening
🔒never leave car documents or ID in obvious places such as kitchens or hallways
🔒in the evening, shut the curtains and leave lights on, or set light timers
🔒if you’re out all day, then it’s advisable to use a timer device to automatically turn lights and a radio on at night
🔒remember to set your burglar alarm
🔒make sure the side gate is locked
🔒lock your shed or garage
🔒lock your bike inside a secure shed or garage, to a robust fitting bolted to the ground or wall, like a ground anchor
