Liberty Foundation exists to provide care and education for abused and abandoned children in Belize, Central America.
Liberty Foundation Description
In 2005 Liberty Foundation opened the doors of Liberty Children’s Home and has been providing high quality residential care for up to 40 children at a time ever since. The home draws upon child-care methods proven to minimise the damaging effects of institutionalisation, with a great emphasis on respect and treating each child as an individual.
Liberty Learning Centre was established the following year to provide much needed pre-school education for children living in the local community of Ladyville, Belize. The school draws primarily from the Montessori educational approach – originally developed for underprivileged children – and focuses on working with each child to develop independence, confidence and a desire to learn.
Liberty is committed to working towards a bigger picture to help set a higher standard of care for children and suitable training for staff in residential facilities. Liberty is part of the Working Groups for Children's Homes www. pikler.org
