After a summer off, we're back at Herongate Athletic from 10am tomorrow (Saturday) morning for our community goalkeeping sessions!
This hour long session delivers goalkeeping fundamentals in line with the FA DNA for foundation age players through games and fun activities.
They're free if you belong to Herongate Soccer Schools and even if you don't, we want to use a 'pay what you want' system - contribute whatever sum you feel is appropriate which goes straight back into equip...ment costs!

With the holidays and daylight lasting longer, i'm now able to offer some times for 1-to-1 or other bespoke sessions. These sessions give players the opportunity to get more focus and attention to their specific game, and would be a great complement to group sessions and team training. ELGK offering another holiday camp for young goalkeepers! Lots of games, prizes, high qualified coaches and a great way to improve as a player!

Sadly the weather defeats us this week-back to normal next Saturday!

Easter Holiday coming up means another set of day camps to get involved with! After the success of the Ultimate Goalkeeper Camp last half term, ELGK will hold three days worth of football activities, run by some fantastic coaches. Message for any details on ELGK or the camp 🙌🙌⚽️⚽️

Game called off so spent time working on turns off the post and using a cross step for the first time 🙌🙌 Cross steps can be very effective when you haven't got much time to turn but you've got to know how and when to use it!
One issue I see is that I'm taking a negative step rather than a positive one - but that's something to think about for the future. Happy with some good handling in difficult conditions today 👍🏽👍🏽⚽️

As i'm sure you've guessed, training tomorrow is CANCELLED due to the weather. We'll resume from next week as long as the ground is safe to work with.

GOALKEEPER GLOVES
Had some questions this week on goalkeeper gloves for kids, so I'll give you my thoughts:
At price points around £20-25, avoid brands like Adidas, Nike and Sondico because the quality can often be quite poor, particularly the Nike "match" and adidas "replique" models. Take a look online at places like Just Keepers and Pro Direct and search through the sale items - sells and Uhlsport offer decent gloves at a cheap price. Try to get a glove with Giga grip - th...e latex will last a bit longer. A lot of independent glove brands offer brilliant value for money too - The One Glove has been popular recently, I've worn Edge Goalkeeping gloves which were fantastic too. eBay can often give you some good deals if you're prepared to look.
In terms of keeping them clean and lasting long:
- make sure that when you dive, get up using a fist rather than the palm - before using the gloves you will want to prewash them! - when drying gloves get rid of the excess water and let them dry naturally - wash mud and dirt out as quickly as you can, here's a good guide but you can use water on its own!
