Was delighted to make my cousin-in-law a hat for a wedding she was attending last weekend. Zoe lives in Dubai but couldn't find the right thing there to wear to an English wedding. Zoe found the UK shop Suzy Hamilton online and ordered a made to measure dress and jacket. After receiving fabric swatches from Suzy for colour matching I could then start to design & make the hat. Zoe took a huge leap of faith ordering an outfit and hat that she'd never tried on! Because of time constraints the outfit was sent to our studio, Zoe and hubby Jeremy flew in from Dubai and made a speedy dash to Lewes on route to the wedding to see the hat for the first time & try everything on, miraculously everything fitted perfectly and Zoe looked and felt amazing! Came across this hat whilst searching for something else in the studio then totally forgot what I was looking for in the first place 🤔 Made in 1998 from a vintage kimono I bought from Portobello market. Ethical fashion. .

Sarah and I had the pleasure of seeing the film The Millinery Lesson by Mike Southon. This documentary film is about the fascinating life of Marie O’Regan who is now 92 yrs young and she is still teaching classes to this day from her home. Marie was my very first introduction into millinery when I was a student at LCF (many moons ago). From Marie’s very first lesson I knew I wanted to follow a career in millinery from then on. The film shows Maria’s incredible life story from being in an orphanage as a child to then progressing on to work for top couturiers in Paris and then being The Queens Milliner when moving to London in the late 1950’s. It was so lovely to see Marie and give my gratitude to her for inspiring me to have a wonderful life long career in millinery.

Some images from our Sculpted Sinamay 2 day class last weekend. Students learnt how how make a hat to their own design working with patterns and how to work with the material sinamay sculpting into shape with irons and steam. They all came up with something beautiful and unique.
