Lrf Heritage & Education Centre Description

The Lloyd's Register Foundation Heritage & Education Centre based in London is one of the finest library and archives of its kind, holding material concerning 255 years of marine and engineering science and history. Our aim is to enhance public understanding in these areas, encourage and support current research and to assist with research concerning the history and development of the Lloyd’s Register group globally.

Originally founded in 1852, today’s library collection incorporates the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science & Technology (IMarEST) collection at Lloyd’s Register as well as much of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA) Denny library collection. It is one of the great resources still available for current and historic information concerning maritime history, marine engineering, naval architecture, offshore engineering and ocean technology, offering resources freely to those undertaking research.

This diverse collection contains in excess of 54, 000 items and is invaluable to maritime, business, engineering, social and family historians as well as other researchers, students and the general public. The reference library is open to the public for research Monday to Friday between 09: 30-12: 00 and 13: 00-16: 30. We do not open at weekends or during public holidays.

The Heritage & Education Centre is also responsible for the art and artefact collection, research and presentations on the development of Lloyd’s Register, tours of 71 Fenchurch Street and some educational visits.
