Macculloch & Wallis

About Macculloch & Wallis

Fabric Store & Haberdashery in London since 1902
*Covid-19 update: Soho shop currently closed to the public, but we are safely shipping online orders*

Macculloch & Wallis Description

In 1902 we were supplying haberdashery, interlinings, and millinery materials to the couture trade in the West End. In the '50s we imported wholesale silks from The East, in the '80s we let the public in on the secret and expanded our range from the most comprehensive collection of foundation materials to include outer trimmings and fabrics from all over the world. We now have three floors of wools, silks, jerseys, zips, threads, laces, flowers, feathers, elastic, boning, ribbons, tape, webbing, shoulder pads, buckles, buttons, and a basement full of interlining. We're right in the middle of London's West End where we've always been but if you can't make it in to see us please try our site where you're more likely to be able to browse our enormous range whilst sipping a cup of tea.

I loved the old shop down Dering street and could not imagine how the old world charm could be replicated in Poland St. In fact the new premises are slick, modern and unbelievably well organisedand I have to say that finding what I want now takes minutes with no rootling involved! (however enjoyable that was) As ever the staff are always helpful and give thought when asking their advice. If I am unable to get to London, the web site is, like the new premises, modern well laid out and very very professional and visually very appealing.

Keep up the good work, we need good independent shops such as M&W.

Could have spent lots of money. I don't go to London often, but this time discovered this great shop. I'll be back again next time I'm there x

I shop online with this store because it is the only place I can find an item that I regularly need. However I find the postage costs extortionate £4.20 for something that would post as a large letter and for that price they can only guarantee that it will ship within 5 days which is pretty poor in this day and age!

Usually like the variety available in store despite the variable moods of the sales assistants so decided to try the online shop as I don't live as close by anymore. Nearly two weeks after placing my order I received a phone call to tell me I would need to pay more postage as one of my items would not fit in a small packet. The only option offered was going to at least double my postage until I asked for more cost effective options. If orders are still being delayed because of the move, an email to let customers know would be better and would have made me more understanding. To receive a phone call 13 days later to tell me that not only was my order still not dispatched but that I would have to pay more postage was not great customer service. The tone of the phone call was so apathetic and unfriendly that I cancelled my order.

Never had to deal with such a rude, unhelpful sales assistant who clearly thought she was above all the customers with all her 'knowledge', i went in on saturday only through the recommendation of my uni to get shoulder pads and extras for my final tailoring collection and the woman who served me spoke to me like dirt on the bottom of her shoes, she laughed AT me, wouldn't take into account that I was looking for what was best for MY fabric only what SHE liked! I will never come back to this horrible store again I would rather give my business to eBay than a company that treats its customers like they are stupid and not worth their time!
