Madeleine Description
The food revolution is in full flow. Who would have thought of lobster or foie gras in a burger in the nineties?
Madeleine Cafe is doing exactly the same . . . but with waffles.
Waffles - greasy fair food with no taste? Or delicious, warm, sugary, scrummy treats that take you back to being a toddler?
Whatever your memories of these little grids of joy, you'll love the quality, care, and little bit of French savoir-faire we put into ours.
So why are we called Madeleine if we're cooking waffles ? Well you all know that little story from Marcel Proust ? When he takes a bite from that Madeleine and is all the sudden sent back to his childhood . . . That exactly the power of waffles on me.
But even if everyone's "Madeleine" is not particularly that lovely french cake, to grace our name, we obviously didn’t forget them on the menu. Two sizes – regular ones, and signature ones, baked in real Saint Jacques shells (as the story goes)

Wonderful successor to Gastro lunches
Cosy, friendly, beautiful traditional French cooking. Of course, the pastries and cakes speak for themselves...
Took my mum here and we both loved our cake and tea! The staff started cleaning under our table without saying anything or asking us to move, which felt a bit rude.
Excellent crepes et galettes. The Frangipane s a new one for me, but what a revelation !!
all the milk cartons which the assistant sniffed were 'off' so we sat and waited while another waitress went to the market for some. the first assistant spoke to her pals at the opposite wall [ who were customers] before she informed us of above although we were sat waiting. we will never be back
